Chapter 493: Chapter 244: Stack Them Into a Wall, What Do You Think?

He managed to dig up a few things by following the lead, but it was all irrelevant. The other party was exceptionally cautious, apparently worried about being traced online. They had taken thorough precautions, so even with Su Chen’s skills, he only managed to uncover useless information.

The SIM cards and virtual devices used to send the messages were all purchased from brainless fools who’d sold their own phone cards and IDs.

Su Chen traced several accounts using the information, but they were all dead ends. For now, he had no choice but to abandon the idea of tracking them through hacking.

"Sir, dinner is ready. Aunt Tang made some of your favorite Sichuan dishes!" Chen Fei said, poking his head through the doorway.

The mention of Sichuan food instantly dispelled the gloom from Su Chen’s face. During his time at Lake Baikal, he had eaten meat practically every day—all sorts of barbecue, steak, and the like. After a while, he felt his taste buds were crying out for something different.

"I’ve been craving some twice-cooked pork. I just hope Aunt Tang made some!" Filled with anticipation, Su Chen stood up and headed for the dining room.

The moment he stepped into the dining room, a mouth-watering aroma hit him. His eyes immediately landed on the twice-cooked pork he’d been craving, along with several other authentic Sichuan dishes like Mapo Tofu, Fish-Fragrant Pork, and Kung Pao Chicken.

Su Chen plopped right down into a chair, gave a nod to Chen Fei and Jiang Hui, and immediately picked up his chopsticks and started eating.

"Ah, nothing beats twice-cooked pork!"

The moment the savory, aromatic flavor of the twice-cooked pork exploded in his mouth, Su Chen’s eyes practically closed in pleasure.

Su Chen ate nearly half of the food on the table all by himself. He ate until his stomach was visibly bulging, and he leaned back in his chair, not wanting to move a muscle.

"Sir, there’s something I forgot to tell you." Jiang Hui, who was just about to get up and brew a pot of tea for Su Chen, smacked his own forehead and spoke in a self-reproachful tone.

Su Chen gently patted his belly. With his eyes barely open, he looked at Jiang Hui standing on the other side of the table and asked, "Go on. What is it?"

"Yesterday evening, President Pei had a large shipment delivered. It took a full hour to move everything. I had it all put in the storage room in the basement!"

Jiang Hui had no idea what the items were. He’d been curious and asked about them at the time, but Pei Rang was completely tight-lipped, revealing nothing more than, "You’ll find out when the boss gets back!"—a reply that immediately squashed his curiosity.

A thought struck Su Chen. He never would have expected Pei Rang to send all that gold to the Imperial Capital.

"Come on, let’s go take a look!" After the treasure was first recovered, Su Chen hadn’t examined it closely. He’d handed it all over to Li Li the very next day to be transported back in batches.

When they reached the basement storage room, they found it filled with wooden crates, stacked about half a meter high and sealed tight.

Su Chen shot a look at Chen Fei, who was standing beside him, indicating that he should open one of the crates.

Who knows where Chen Fei found a crowbar, but he stepped onto a wooden crate and, with a few loud CREAKS and CRACKS, pried it open. In moments, the crate was in pieces, revealing its contents.

"Gold bars?" Jiang Hui couldn’t help but gasp when he saw the gold stacked in neat piles. There had to be dozens, if not hundreds of them!

And there were dozens of these crates in the storage room. If they were all filled with gold...

Jiang Hui swallowed hard, trying to process his shock. He finally understood why it had taken two dollies to move these things.

Su Chen paid no mind to Jiang Hui’s loss of composure. He stood with his arms crossed, thumb and forefinger of his left hand stroking his chin as he stared at the gold bars and the dozens of crates. Then, he suddenly turned to Chen Fei and Jiang Hui.

"What do you say we build a wall out of these gold bars?"

’Build a wall?’

’Out of gold bars?’

Chen Fei and Jiang Hui exchanged a look. Each word was perfectly familiar on its own, but strung together, the sentence felt completely alien.
