Chapter 83: Boiling

Chapter 83: Chapter 83: Boiling

The next second.

Some of the surveillance cameras and sensor devices on the mountain peak instantly detected the Sin Abyss Guild’s players.

The few Gray Crow close-in defense towers that hadn’t lost power instantly swiveled 180 degrees, aiming their guns.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

A serpent of fire erupted, and a terrifying rain of bullets scythed toward the Sin Abyss Guild players.

"Aaargh!"

Any Sin Abyss Guild player caught in the line of fire was torn to shreds, their bodies obliterated. Even their ballistic shields couldn’t hold up.

Padoka and the others immediately hit the deck.

They had to wait for the flare to die out. Otherwise, there was no way for them to advance.

Most of the weapon systems were offline, but clearly not all of them.

...

「Late at night. The Star Wish Cafe, Upper City District, Mountain City Mountain.」

A stunningly beautiful woman walked in. She had a curvaceous figure, an oval face, and wore a black lace dress with a plunging V-neck.

"Sister An Qing."

The servers all greeted the woman warmly.

An Qing nodded and headed further inside.

She was surprised to see how lively the main hall was, with numerous customers gathered around the projection stage.

’Why are there so many people here this late at night?’

Curious, An Qing walked over. As she approached, she saw Xiaoqi and Mira standing together, watching the livestream on the projector.

She glanced around, spotted Chu Xian from the combat team, and walked over with a smile to chat with him.

"Chu Xian."

"Sister Qing, what are you doing here?"

Chu Xian looked at An Qing, a bit surprised.

As the leader of the Fourth Rat Group, practically everyone in the club knew her.

"Just rotating in for my shift. But what are you all doing gathered here in the middle of the night instead of sleeping?"

An Qing asked with a bright smile.

"We’re watching the Watchtower Observatory livestream."

"But isn’t that on every day?"

"This time is different. Not only did a record number of people enter, but all three major guilds are in there, and the fighting is incredibly intense. The hype is off the charts. They say hundreds of millions of people are staying up all night to watch it online."

Chu Xian explained.

"No way! That sounds intense. I have to see this."

Her interest piqued, An Qing turned to watch the livestream.

The projection stage in the Star Wish Cafe was displaying the feeds from four different player livestreams.

These four feeds showed combat scenes taking place at four different elevators.

An Qing could see the fierce battles playing out on the screens.

Unaffiliated players were storming the elevators, trying to ambush the three major guilds from behind.

However, the teams from the three major guilds were prepared; they had specifically left people behind to intercept any attacks.

The many viewers watching the stream excitedly flooded the chat with comments.

"Go, Young Master Qian Wei! Victory is yours this time!"

"Nonsense! I think Miss Qian Luobing has the best chance of winning!"

"Hmph, a bunch of idiots! The only one who can win this is Lord Padoka. The rest of you are pathetically weak compared to him."

"Hmph, you ignorant fools! The one leading the Star God Guild’s team this time is Miss Farina!"

"Alright, cut the crap. If you ask me, the All Stars Guild has it in the bag. They sent in the most people this time—a full two teams!"

"So what if they have more people? That doesn’t make them special."

"Yeah, it does! What are you gonna do about it?"

"FUCK YOU!"

...

The chats for all four livestreams exploded with comments as the viewers cursed each other out.

Just then, the streamer Sun Zhou began his commentary.

"Everyone, look! The Sin Abyss Guild has successfully crushed the unaffiliated players who tried to ambush them! A few might have gotten away, but they’re no longer a threat."

...

New comments instantly flooded the chat.

"Boring. The three major guilds are just dominating the whole thing again."

"That’s normal. How are unaffiliated players supposed to beat a major guild?"

"This is a little unfair."

"Where are you going to find fairness in this day and age?"

...

Xiaoqi watched this unfold, then turned to ask Mira.

"Sister Mira, it feels like the power gap between the unaffiliated players and the three major guilds is huge."

"That’s to be expected. The skill level of unaffiliated players is all over the place. Most of them can’t even win a one-on-one fight, let alone compete with the sheer numbers the three major guilds brought. Besides, the guilds have already cleared out plenty of others on their way here."

Mira wasn’t at all surprised by this outcome.

At that moment, the Pilates Streamer suddenly cried out in surprise.

"Huh?!"

Hearing the Pilates Streamer’s surprised cry, everyone turned to look at his livestream feed.

The Pilates Streamer then spoke, his voice filled with shock.

"Holy shit! Brothers and sisters, you guys have got to see what that is!"

"Wait, what are you talking about, streamer?"

"Look at what?"

...

A fresh wave of comments appeared.

Pilates quickly adjusted his stream’s camera angle and zoomed in on the shot.

Everyone instantly saw a person climbing up along a thick cable, carrying a small girl on their back.

The chat instantly erupted.

"Holy crap, who is that?!"

"No idea, but that’s totally badass!"

"Awesome! A free climb!"

"Not just free-climbing—that dude is carrying someone on his back!"

...

"Is this guy going for the win-steal?"

"Looks like it!"

"At his speed, he might actually be the first one to the top. Then he can just wait for the three major guilds to tear each other apart before making his move."

"Doesn’t that mean he has a shot at the chicken dinner?!"

...

The crowd of viewers grew ecstatic.

Many who were tired of the major guilds started excitedly spamming the chat.

"Go for it!"

"Go! You have to get that chicken dinner!"

...

However, this also drew the ire of others, who fought back in the comments.

"Hmph, a bunch of morons. You really think getting there first is enough to steal the win?"

"So naive. Even if he makes it to the top, he’ll be dead in two shots."

...

"Piss off, you bunch of guild bootlickers!"

"Who says a major guild has to be the one to win?"

...

The chat rooms grew even more chaotic as the viewers started slinging insults at one another.

Xiaoqi stared in shock before turning to Mira.

"Sister Mira, who is that guy? He’s incredible!"

"I don’t know. I’ve never seen him before, and I’ve never heard of anyone like him."

Mira was also deeply confused.

The game hadn’t been out for very long, but most of the stronger players had already made some kind of name for themselves.

But she had never even heard of this player wearing a red skull mask.

"So, do you think he can steal the win?"

Xiaoqi asked excitedly.

"It’s hard to say. Who knows what will happen before the very end? But this run on the Observatory is definitely going to be spectacular."

Mira let out a small smile.

...

「Sinful City.」

Inside a magnificent, hundred-meter-tall building with an exterior clad in a blue glass curtain wall.

Qin Ye sat on a leather sofa, his face a mask of fury.

"Dammit! That damned Iron Shield Guild! I’m not done with you!"

He never expected that he wouldn’t be killed by the All Stars Guild, but would fall at the hands of a bunch of worthless scum instead.

Just then, Wang Yin, who was sitting beside him, picked up a bottle, poured a glass of red wine, and handed it to Qin Ye.

"Calm down. Look at me—I got blown to bits by that crew from the All Stars Guild."
