Chapter 84: Shock
Chapter 84: Chapter 84: Shock
Qin Ye took the wine glass, but his anger got the better of him, and he smashed it on the floor.
SMASH~
The crystal glass shattered, spilling crimson wine all over the floor.
Watching this, Lu Xu sighed and tried to console him.
"Come on, don’t be so pissed. What happened to you is nothing. I’m the one who really got screwed. I was captured by those guys, dragged in front of that woman, and executed on the spot."
"Yeah! My end wasn’t any better. They just blew up the building, and I was buried alive."
Bai Xiu gave a helpless shrug.
After hearing what Lu Xu and the others had to say, Qin Ye’s anger finally subsided a little.
Meanwhile, Zhao Chen and the others standing behind the sofa kept their heads down, not daring to make a sound.
Their previous failed attempts on the Observatory were just a matter of losing gunfights or getting ambushed by campers.
But this time, Young Master Qin had been completely outplayed by another player. With his temper, that was a hard pill to swallow.
TAP TAP~
Just then, Feimi rushed in.
"Young Master, you have to see this stream!"
"What stream? I’m already furious!"
Qin Ye felt like he was about to explode with rage.
"Young Master, just take a look!"
Feimi immediately turned on the projector.
A livestream feed quickly appeared on the screen.
When Young Master Qin saw the footage of Long Ming climbing the cable bare-handed with Qin Ying on his back, he shot to his feet, a look of utter disbelief on his face.
"Holy shit! Isn’t that Red Ghost and my sister?"
"What the fuck! He’s actually climbing to the Observatory bare-handed with Qin Ying on his back!"
"That’s fucking insane!"
...
Wang Yin and the others were also staring, completely dumbfounded.
Bai Xiu took a deep breath, turning to Qin Ye.
"Young Master Qin, where in the world did you hire this guy? He’s an absolute beast!"
"Yeah, seriously."
Wang Yin and the others asked, their curiosity piqued.
"I hired him in-game. I just saw he had great gear and a high KDI, so I figured he was a pro. But I never expected him to be this damn good! He stayed behind to hold off the All Stars Guild, and not only did he survive, but he’s also carrying my sister up to the Observatory."
Qin Ye’s face was a mask of disbelief.
"How high is his KDI?"
Bai Xiu asked, curious.
"I think it was 12.1."
Qin Ye said after a moment’s thought.
"That high? No wonder he’s so good!"
Bai Xiu and the others were stunned by the number.
Then it dawned on Qin Ye. He slapped his thigh in frustration and said angrily,
"Damn it! This is all that damned Iron Shield Guild’s fault! Otherwise, I’d probably be the one up there right now!"
"Yeah, right. Your sister is light, so it’s doable. If it were you, I’m not so sure he could’ve carried you up."
Lu Xu teased with a laugh.
"Fuck off!"
Qin Ye snapped back.
"Haha! But seriously, for him to go this far on an escort mission is incredibly impressive. I just wonder if he’ll actually be able to finish the job."
Wang Yin was growing more interested as well.
’Probably not.’
Hearing Wang Yin’s words, Qin Ye’s heart clenched. ’If he actually pulls this off, I’m going to lose my mind.’
"Hard to say. We’ll see."
Bai Xiu said uncertainly.
Hearing this, Qin Ye turned his nervous gaze back to the livestream.
....
Long Ming continued climbing upward, inch by inch, with Qin Ying on his back. His Physical Strength was draining rapidly, and sweat poured off him like rain.
Qin Ying could clearly hear Long Ming’s ragged breathing.
She asked worriedly,
"Are you okay?"
"I’m fine. We’re almost there."
Veins bulged all over Long Ming’s body. He gritted his teeth and kept climbing.
Finally, through his relentless effort, he successfully reached the lift platform at the top of the Observatory.
The moment he hauled himself over the edge, Long Ming untied the nylon rope and gasped for air.
Qin Ying quickly pulled a Physical Strength recovery injector from her tactical belt and handed it to Long Ming.
"Here. This will help you recover your Physical Strength quickly."
Long Ming took it, a little surprised, then jabbed it into his shoulder and injected the contents.
Long Ming soon felt his Physical Strength returning rapidly.
While it didn’t instantly restore him to his peak condition, at least he was no longer out of breath.
He turned to look into the distance and was completely stunned by the sight before him.
The entire Observatory base was divided into two parts. The first was a massive, square foundation cast from metal, with sides stretching for several kilometers.
The other part was the giant radio telescope sitting atop the base.
The entire facility was aimed toward the vast, starry sky.
Although a long period of neglect had left its surface covered in mottled rust and dust, the massive Observatory was like a lonely lighthouse, guiding ships back to port.
’I don’t know why the people of this world built such a massive radio telescope, or why they wanted to send messages into space.’
But in that moment, something stirred deep within him.
"Mr. Red Ghost?"
Qin Ying called out softly.
Long Ming snapped back to reality and glanced back at the distant staircase.
’The teams from the three major guilds will be charging up here any second.’
He said to Qin Ying,
"Let’s go."
"Right."
Qin Ying nodded quickly.
The Observatory base had four large main entrances, big enough for large vehicles to drive through.
In addition, there were sixteen smaller entrances of various sizes.
The paths to these entrances were lined with various defensive weapons and surveillance systems. Some areas even had trip-wire mines.
Without knowing a safe route, one would have to advance with extreme caution.
Following the route Wang Yin had provided, Long Ming led Qin Ying cautiously toward the main base.
A dormant magnetic storm tower came into view.
The tower stood thirty meters tall, topped with a large sphere. Its interior was a dense web of circuitry, exuding a shocking sense of oppressive power.
’I have to wonder what kind of monster could possibly withstand an attack from a weapon like this.’
’If that thing hit us, we’d probably be carbonized on the spot.’
"What a terrifying weapon."
Qin Ying said nervously.
"Don’t worry. The power’s out."
Long Ming said after a careful look.
"Okay."
Qin Ying nodded her head vigorously.
Long Ming led Qin Ying deeper inside, and they soon arrived at Entrance 2 without any issues.
It was a logistics corridor entrance, and the blast door was open.
The metal walls were covered in scorch marks and bullet holes. A few backpacks lay scattered on the ground.
It was clear that more than a few firefights had happened at this entrance.
Long Ming peered cautiously inside. After confirming the corridor was clear, he led Qin Ying in.
The corridor wasn’t very wide, only about three meters across.
The lighting was dim. While the system was still operational, many of the lights were broken, and others flickered incessantly.
"It’s so quiet."
Qin Ying said nervously.
"Have you guys ever made it this far in before?"
Long Ming asked in a low voice.
"No."
Qin Ying hid behind Long Ming, clearly frightened.
"I see."
Long Ming gave a slight nod and proceeded cautiously inward.
Before long, the two reached an intersection.
