Chapter 1447 Acting on Justice? Overcoming Hardships (Part 2)

Luo Fei finally let out a small breath of relief.

“It’s best if Mr. Su doesn’t mind.”

“How could I, Mr. Luo? You have no idea. Thanks to your tireless efforts lately, our company’s stock price has gone up sharply. There are a lot more people coming to work with us on developing computer software. Quite a few of them say they hope our company can develop a new software product.”

“To strengthen data confidentiality and security systems for different companies. Speaking of which, Mr. Luo, hasn’t your police database gone a long time without an update? If you don’t mind, I can help you upgrade the system for free. I just don’t know whether Mr. Luo would be willing to let me do you this favor.”

But as he listened to the other man, Luo Fei had already noticed something.

Right now, Han Tiesheng and the others all looked excited, itching to give it a try.

So he smiled and agreed.

“Mr. Su, to be honest, our Major Crimes Unit does have a lot of files that have never been organized. So if you’re willing to help, that would naturally be the best. It really would be a tremendous help to us.”

“Would it? Then that’s great. I’ll have someone come over later to find Mr. Luo and collect the materials. We’ll archive and store all those classified records and historical cases.”

Hearing this,

Luo Fei nodded repeatedly.

“All right, Mr. Su. Speaking of which, Su Jianfan is actually pretty annoyed right now. He’s got a lot of case files saved in electronic form on his computer. I told him to upload them into the system three months ago. But he’s busy most of the time. And some of those are cases from the last ten years that still aren’t solved. There are piles of case files, and the tech unit still has to investigate cases on a daily basis. If we rely only on the tech unit to handle this kind of digitization work, it’s actually very troublesome. Not to mention, it could involve leaks of classified information.”

Luo Fei’s explanation made Mr. Su suddenly realize.

“So that’s what Mr. Luo was worried about?”

“That’s right. The police do have a lot of databases. But a lot of things can only be handled internally. Otherwise, we really can’t be at ease. But now that Mr. Su is helping us, entering data into the database will become much easier. I truly owe you one.”

Hearing him say that,

Mr. Su also smiled.

“Mr. Luo, this really isn’t a big deal. And strictly speaking, I’m the one who’s voluntarily offering to help you. This is also to strengthen public security locally so that some tragedies don’t have to happen again.”

He could hear a faint off note in the other man’s tone.

Luo Fei couldn’t help feeling curious.

“Mr. Su, have you been through something lately? Otherwise, why would you suddenly say something like that?”

Seeing that the other man had seen through his thoughts in one glance,

Mr. Su felt a bit embarrassed.

“Mr. Luo, I’m a bit ashamed to say this. Lately, my cousin, Su Bingqing, hasn’t contacted me at all. In the past, she used to call me all the time to check on how I was doing. But now she hasn’t done that. It really makes one suspicious.”

It turned out that Mr. Su had always had a very good relationship with his cousin.

The two of them were often in touch.

But recently, for reasons unknown,

Mr. Su had called her, and her phone had always been switched off.

This worried Su Manying a lot.

“Mr. Luo, even though we’re all adults now, sometimes sisters should still look out for each other.”

“And my cousin told me before that her ex-husband wasn’t exactly a kind person. He likes to give her trouble, and even though they’ve been separated for some time, she’s still very afraid of this man. It’s no exaggeration to say he’s left a psychological shadow on her.”

This information made the corner of Luo Fei’s mouth twitch.

“So that’s how it is. Sounds like this ex-husband really is a handful.”

“Exactly, Mr. Luo. I told my cousin before, you should go to the police and testify, have him thrown in jail. But my cousin said they’d been separated for several years. And during those years, at most he’d follow her once in a while, sometimes show up downstairs at her building. But he never did anything concrete. And my cousin has always been the type who doesn’t like trouble, doesn’t like to cause trouble for others. So even though we all tried to persuade her, she still clung to a bit of wishful thinking.”

This made Luo Fei crease his brows.

“But sometimes, it’s exactly that kind of thinking that gives criminals an opening. It lets them go even further, even become more outrageous.”

Seeing Luo Fei’s serious expression,

his tone also became solemn.

Su Manying said,

“That’s right, Mr. Luo. And this hasn’t just been going on for a day or two.”

“If we could all work together and figure out a way to help my cousin, I’d be really glad. I honestly hope she can walk out of that psychological shadow, break free from this man’s influence, instead of being manipulated by him all the time. It’s really heartbreaking.”

“It’s just that now my cousin has gone missing, and I can’t get in touch with her. I’m truly afraid something has happened to her.”

At first, Su Manying hadn’t planned to tell Luo Fei about this.

After all, he was so busy with work.

If she kept bothering him, that wouldn’t be very appropriate.

But seeing that he felt a bit embarrassed,

Luo Fei only smiled.

“Mr. Su, you’re being too polite. You’ve been helping us all along and even helped my friends. That really makes me happy. So you don’t need to hesitate. For something this small, it’s only right that I help you.”

Luo Fei’s words left the other party a bit surprised.

“Mr. Luo, do you mean that?”

“You’re really not joking?”

Hearing the shock in the other’s voice,

as if he could hardly believe his ears,

Luo Fei gave no direct comment.

“Of course. I’ve got no reason to joke about this. Every word I said was sincere.”

Hearing Luo Fei’s calm, earnest tone,

Su Manying finally let out a small breath of relief.

Even so, knowing what Luo Fei thought,

she still didn’t feel completely at ease.

“Mr. Luo, my cousin’s place isn’t actually that close to where I live. And I’ve been on business trips a lot lately. So if possible, I’d like to ask you to look into this for me. I just don’t know if you’d be willing?”

She sounded hesitant,

as if on the verge of saying more but holding back.

Luo Fei of course didn’t refuse.

“Of course, no problem.”

Hearing Luo Fei agree,

Su Manying finally felt as if a weight had been lifted from her shoulders.

“Mr. Luo, then I’ll leave this to you. I’m really grateful. I honestly never thought you’d be willing to help me with something this big.”

Hearing such heartfelt gratitude,

Luo Fei only smiled.

“Mr. Su, just wait for my news.”

But when she heard that,

Yang Mei, standing to the side, still looked worried.

“Mr. Luo, are you sure it’s okay to promise like that?”

“If things don’t turn out the way we’re hoping, it’ll be a big problem.”

Hearing the uneasiness in her voice,

Luo Fei again neither confirmed nor denied.

“I know.”

His answer made her pause for a moment.

“It’s precisely because we’re the police that there are some things we have to do. Even if we have to face some really terrifying realities, we still have to fulfill our duty. Even if what we have to say, what we have to do, might be unacceptable to people.”

Almost at the same time,

Luo Fei called Su Jianfan and explained what he had in mind.

When he learned that Luo Fei already had a plan and intended to put him in charge of database comparison and data entry,

Su Jianfan agreed readily.

“Don’t worry, Mr. Luo. Leave this to me.”
