Chapter 853: Chapter 565: Heading to the Golden Sun and the Strange Scenery of the Void
"Our target isn’t it. There’s no need to waste time."
Before his voice even faded, he took Raylo and transformed into a faint light, blinking three times in rapid succession without pause.
When Raylo returned to his senses, that terrifying World Destruction Level Magical Beast, along with the aura it emitted, had completely vanished at the edge of his perception, as if it had never appeared.
Not far from that area, an anomaly ahead caused Austin Sage to stop once again.
In the void ahead of them appeared a "scar" that stretched across the sky.
It was an endlessly churning "great river."
The river contained no water; what flowed within were billions of intertwined, unimaginably violent spatial turbulences and void energies. This "river of the void" came from an unknown origin and flowed toward an unknown destination. It simply spanned there in silence. Even a stray tear of energy flashing within it was enough to make a Catastrophe Level powerhouse like Raylo feel an extreme sense of danger.
"A void undercurrent," Austin Sage’s voice rang out, this time carrying a hint of a smile. "Our luck is quite good."
"Our luck is good?" Raylo was taken aback. He could feel the riotous energy inside it. To him, this thing was even more dangerous than the Void Magical Beast they had just encountered.
"Of course," Austin Sage said, pointing at the churning void river. "If the void were compared to a windless, dead sea, then this thing would be its ocean current. Although dangerous, as long as one knows how to harness it, it can carry us forward at ten, or even a hundred times our normal speed."
He looked at Raylo and offered a faint smile. "Want to hitch a ride on the ’tailwind’ of the void?"
Hearing this, a surge of heroic spirit welled up in Raylo’s chest. Traveling with this Sage, everything he had seen and heard on this void journey had been truly novel and fascinating.
"I couldn’t ask for anything better!"
"Good!" Austin Sage laughed heartily, saying no more.
He extended his right hand, palm facing upward. A translucent spherical Magic Shield, formed by starlight-glimmering Magic Runes, rapidly expanded from his palm, enveloping the two of them.
Outside the shield was the chaotic and furious void. Inside, however, was a domain of absolute stability and tranquility, as if it were a world of its own.
"Stand steady," Austin Sage reminded him. He then maneuvered the Magic Shield, driving it like a lone skiff... plunging straight into the chaotically violent void undercurrent!
"BOOM!"
The moment they entered the undercurrent, Raylo felt the entire world spinning around him. An unimaginably terrifying thrust acted upon the Magic Shield. The scenery outside instantly turned into countless stretched and distorted streams of light. They felt as if they had been grabbed by a giant invisible hand, rushing madly downstream at a speed that transcended the limits of conceptual understanding.
This speed was more than ten times faster than Austin Sage’s own spatial jumps!
Raylo stared intently at the bizarre and dazzling sights outside the shield, his mind reeling with excitement.
This was a World Destruction Level method! Harnessing natural disasters for personal use, treating forbidden zones like paved roads!
At this extreme speed, the distance was rapidly closed.
Raylo looked at Austin Sage beside him. The old man looked completely at ease, his eyes calmly gazing forward, as if he weren’t traveling through a world-destroying void undercurrent, but taking a leisurely stroll in his own backyard.
"Haha, you’ll get used to it," Austin Sage chuckled, seemingly sensing Raylo’s stiffness. "Traveling through the void is just this tedious. You either endure long periods of solitary jumps, or you have to put up with this turbulence."
After riding the spatial turbulence for about half an hour, the scenery ahead subtly changed. The furiously distorted void turbulence seemed to enter a relatively "calm" region. The speed was still astonishingly fast, but they could at least make things out now.
Suddenly, a colossal shadow abruptly intruded into Raylo’s field of vision, causing his pupils to shrink sharply.
It was a corpse. The corpse of a Void Magical Beast!
Its size was several times larger than the "Void Predator" disguised as a Meteorite they had encountered earlier. It was at least twenty thousand meters long, shaped like a wingless giant whale. Its skin had a rocky texture, covered in massive Meteorite craters and gruesome wounds.
The most fatal wound was on its head—a massive hollow hole over a thousand meters in diameter pierced straight through its skull, with wisps of destructive energy dissipating at the edges.
It floated silently at the edge of the void undercurrent, bobbing and moving along with the turbulent flow like a dead island wandering through the universe.
A World Destruction Level existence, dead just like that?
What sent an even deeper chill down Raylo’s spine was what clung to this enormous corpse. It was a swarm of... peculiar creatures. Their bodies were semi-transparent and crystalline, coming in various shapes. Some resembled jellyfish, some were like moths, and others looked like strange beetles.
They densely covered the wounds of the Magical Beast’s corpse, greedily gnawing on the energy and flesh contained within.
"Void Mayflies," Austin Sage’s voice chimed in at the right moment to resolve Raylo’s confusion. "They are the scavengers of the void, feeding on various energy remains and powerful corpses. They aren’t strong themselves, but their numbers are infinite. Their existence is part of the void’s ecological cycle."
The Sage’s tone was incredibly bland, as if recounting the most ordinary of matters. Yet, a shiver ran down Raylo’s spine.
Scavengers...
A terrifying World Destruction Level Magical Beast had, upon death, been reduced to food for these "mayflies." In this dark, silent, and dead universe, no matter how powerful an individual was, they could become a link in the food chain at any moment.
The so-called "Catastrophe Level" and "World Destruction Level"—in the face of a grander Law, perhaps they truly were no different from mayflies.
This journey had subverted not only his perception of distance, but also Raylo’s understanding of Power and the world.
Just as Raylo’s mind was reeling, Austin Sage’s expression suddenly shifted slightly.
"Stand steady. There’s a turn ahead; we’re getting off."
Just as his voice fell...
"BOOM!"
A terrifying inertia ten times stronger than before violently hit them! The void undercurrent ahead seemed to crash into an invisible wall. The endlessly surging torrent of energy took a sharp, near ninety-degree turn, rushing madly in another direction!
Raylo felt as though his very soul was about to be flung out of his body by this terrifying turning force.
In the next second, Austin Sage manipulated the Magic Shield. Using the massive thrust of the spatial turbulence, he violently broke free from the undercurrent at the exact moment before the turn!
"SWISH!"
Like a cannonball fired from a barrel, the Magic Shield leaped out of the furious void undercurrent with immense kinetic energy, returning to the open void.
The spinning sensation instantly vanished. Everything around them abruptly shifted from bizarre, twisted lines of light back to stillness and darkness.
Raylo panted heavily. It took him several full seconds to recover from that sensation of extreme speed. He steadied his posture and subconsciously looked ahead.
With just one glance, his breath completely stopped.
Unbeknownst to him, they had already arrived at their destination.
Ahead of them, that golden "Sun" was no longer just a speck of light on the distant horizon. It revealed its full form: a gigantic golden planet.
Upon the planet, a massive palace sat on a mountain peak at the top of the world. The palace projected a colossal golden phantom that enveloped the entire planet, making the whole world within it look as if it were cast from solid Gold.
