Global Descent: I Alone Can See Hidden Evolution Paths
Chapter 206: Rea
The northern channel opened into a narrow, dead-end bay surrounded by steep volcanic walls that rose hundreds of feet into the gray morning air. The water inside the basin was dead calm, completely free of the sea swells, but it carried a thick, purplish tint from the high-density mana leaking out of the limestone fissures below.
Old Man Hak guided the lugger toward a hidden wooden slipway tucked away under a massive rock overhang. The single-cylinder engine let out a final, sputtering choke and died, the heavy oak hull hitting the dark timber piles with a quiet, wet bump.
Jun-ho stepped over the bow rail first. The Ashen Monarch Core Plate sat solid against his chest, its stone-gray texture perfectly dry under the thin drizzle. His left hand kept a casual, loose grip on the wet hemp wrap of The Ash Remnant, the square crossguard of basin slag balanced low by his thigh.
Right behind him, Tae-woo and the four unranked vanguards hoisted their massive square blocks of dark basin rock from the deck, their boots landing on the slippery wood with a synchronized thud that didn’t make the timbers creak an inch.
Eun-bi climbed out of the cabin hatch last, her canvas bag slung tight across her waist. She had the manual paper logs pulled out of her backpack, her eyes tracing the lines under the yellow beam of her headlamp. "The main entrance to the storage facility sits right behind the old iron kiln path," she said, her voice dropping into a quiet, raspy whisper. "But the stolen guild files mention a secondary drainage shaft that cuts straight through the old sulfur mining tunnels. It bypasses the main gate defenses entirely, leading right into the back line of the vault room."
Before Jun-ho could answer, a soft, slow click of heels echoed from the dark mouth of the mining tunnel twenty paces away.
The sound wasn’t the clatter of a guild enforcer’s boot; it was light, measured, and perfectly steady. Out of the dark purple mist of the sulfur cave walked a woman who didn’t look like any hunter or paramedic in the southern sectors.
She looked like a master class asset from the highest legacy guilds in Seoul.
Her name was Rea, an independent unranked rogue broker who had been tracking the regional database glitch since Friday morning. She was stunningly beautiful, with a face that looked like flawless porcelain and a pair of wide, luminous eyes that shifted between a striking golden-blue hue under the dim oil light, giving her a look that was both dangerous and intensely alluring.
Her body was flawless, shaped with a hyper-feminine, perfect hourglass curve that the thin, black silk tunic she wore did nothing to hide.
The fabric was slashed high along her thighs, exposing long, smooth legs that ended in low leather boots, while the deep V-neck line of the front showed the full, rounded swell of her chest and the narrow, perfect line of her waist. Her lips were full, painted a deep crimson color that parted slightly into a lazy, slow smile as her gaze locked straight onto the solid black matte metal of Jun-ho’s sword.
"You’re late, Vanguard," Rea said, her voice dropping into a smooth, sultry register that carried a faint scent of wild orchids through the sour sulfur air of the bay. She leaned her hip casually against a rusted iron mining cart, the movement accentuating the full, perfect curve of her hips. "The Sun God regional director just landed his private cutter at the main gate ten minutes ago. Sang-woo’s father brought four corporate mages and a Tier 5 Lightning Commander named Jin-young to clear the high-tier cores before the ministry auditors can lock the room from the outside."
Eun-bi stepped forward, her sharp face turning hard under her yellow hood as her fingers tightened around her trauma scissors. She looked from the striking woman’s golden-blue eyes down to the low, revealing cut of her black silk tunic, a sharp, cold line tightening around her lips. "Who are you? The unranked registries don’t list anyone with a legacy tunic in this sector."
"I don’t belong to the registries, little nurse," Rea murmured, her golden-blue eyes spinning slowly as she took a single, slow step toward Jun-ho, the fabric of her dress fluttering against her thighs. She stopped just two inches from his shoulder, her breath warm and sweet against his neck as she tilted her head up, her full red lips almost touching his jawline. "I run the private auction lines for the offshore islands. I know what that black ledger in your bag can do to a dungeon drop table. Help me clear the mages inside, and I’ll open the secret transit channel out of the maritime zone tonight."
Jun-ho didn’t shift his weight back. He looked down at the corner of his eye, where the solid gray subtitles were waiting.

"The mages are already inside the vault," Jun-ho said, his voice flat like stone.
"Then let’s go break their circle, big guy," Rea whispered, her fingers sliding slowly over the stone-gray plate of his armor with a soft, teasing friction before she drew a long, thin obsidian dagger from her thigh strap.
They moved into the dark opening of the mining shaft together, Tae-woo and the five vanguards forming a solid line of rock blocks behind them, while the gray text lines at the bottom of Jun-ho’s eye began to count down the final meters until the central vault breach.
The manual mining tunnels didn’t have the clean, brick-lined geometry of the upper transit lines. The passage was a narrow, low-ceilinged slit cut straight through the raw volcanic rock of the north cliff, the walls damp with a yellow sulfur slime that dripped continuously onto the dirt floor with a flat, greasy hiss.
Jun-ho walked through the narrow gap first, his large rubber boots making no sound in the dark. The stone-gray slabs of the Ashen Monarch Core Plate scraped lightly against the rough rock walls, but his posture remained perfectly steady. His left hand kept a low, firm grip on the rough hemp wrap of The Ash Remnant, the matte-black blade balanced easy by his thigh.
Right at his shoulder, Rea moved like a patch of smooth oil. Her long, bare legs slid over the jagged rocks with an effortless, fluid grace that made the high-slashed silk of her black tunic rustle softly against her skin. Every time the narrow path sloped downward, her hip would brush against his denim trousers, the heavy, sweet scent of her orchid perfume cutting right through the sour stench of the sulfur cave. Under the dim yellow glare of the safety lamps, her large golden-blue eyes spun slowly, tracking the thin mana vibrations in the ceiling with a lazy, sharp focus.
"The secondary filter tank is just ten meters ahead," Rea whispered, her full red lips parting into a slow smile right against his collarbone. Her breath was warm, hitting his bare neck in tiny, rhythmic puffs that made the cold lake of mana behind his ribs give a low throb. "The mages inside are using a basic tracking loop to lock the main iron doors from the inner side. They think the entrance is secure because the Ministry key is still in the central district terminal."
"The mages are careless," Jun-ho said, his voice flat like stone.
Behind them, Eun-bi walked with her canvas bag slung tight across her gray flannel shirt. Her dark hair was tied back tightly with the gauze pad, but her sharp face was rigid, her fingers keeping her heavy trauma scissors clutched loose in her hand as her gaze stayed locked on the full, perfect curve of Rea’s hips moving ahead of her in the narrow aisle.
"The database log says the back line of the vault room has an automated chemical vent," Eun-bi muttered, her voice dropping into that flat, public-sector drawl. "If the mages drop a lightning barrier when the door opens, the vent will pull the toxic sulfur gas straight into our lungs. Jun-ho, we need to secure the valve line first."
"The valve is mine, little nurse," Rea murmured, her golden-blue eyes glinting in the dark as she drew her long obsidian dagger from her thigh strap. She didn’t look back at Eun-bi, her shoulder wedged tightly under Jun-ho’s armpit as they reached the end of the stone slit. "Watch the front line, big guy. The Commander is already priming his circle."
The narrow tunnel broke open into the rear mezzanine of the central storage facility. The room inside was a massive, subterranean vault built from thick blocks of grey mountain granite, its ceiling held up by twelve heavy iron pillars that were bolted straight into the ship’s keel plate below.
In the center of the vault room stood Sang-woo’s father, his expensive blue wool cloak covered in grey soot, his black-stained fingers trembling as he pointed a silver master key toward a row of six steel security crates.
Standing right in front of the boxes was Commander Jin-young, his custom white alloy armor still showing the black grease marks from the turntable pit encounter. His lightning broadsword was raised high, the steel blade vibrating with a high-tier purple lightning attribute that lit up the entire granite room in long, liquid lanes of purple glare.
"Get the crates loaded onto the handcarts!" Sang-woo’s father shouted, his voice cracking with a frantic, greedy panic as his fingers twisted the master key. "The ministry repeaters at the harbor gate are still down, but the naval cutters will report the channel breach within ten minutes! We need to clear the Tier 4 cores before the district director locks the log!"
"The log is already locked," Jun-ho said, his voice carrying a deep, quiet resonance that made the silver key drop straight out of the old man’s fingers.
Jun-ho stepped through the broken drainage panel, his large rubber boots hitting the granite floor blocks with a massive, solid landing. He didn’t drop into a vanguard block. He raised The Ash Remnant with his left hand, the new hemp wrap solid in his grip.
[Activating Trait: Ashen Domain - Phase 3.]
[Mana Cost: 500 per minute. Current Mana: 2500/4000.]
A sudden, circular wave of thick grey frost blew outward from his boots, instantly covering the granite floor tiles and turning the chemical grease puddles near the crates into solid white discs of ice for thirty meters around the central desk. The temperature dropped forty degrees in a microsecond, the purple lightning vibrating around Jin-young’s broadsword freezing into a dull, dead current that sputtered and vanished.
[The Monarch’s Ledger Multiplier Active: 100x Resource Block Applied.]
"Rogue—" Commander Jin-young gasped, his white visor covering in a thick layer of grey frost as his active skill lines turned into solid gray boxes inside his vision for sixty seconds. "The Sillim vanguard... he’s running the Phase 3 domain! Mages! Seal the rear line!"
The four corporate mages tried to twist their silver staves, but Rea moved faster than the system text could calculate. With her multiplied master rogue speed, her black silk tunic cut a clean, fluid line through the frozen fog, her obsidian dagger slicing through the mages’ silver staves with a sharp clack before they could even release a single spark. Her full, perfect shape twisted smoothly through the steam, her golden-blue eyes spinning in a lazy, victorious circle as the four men dropped their broken rods into the gray muck.
"The back line is clear, big guy," Rea called out, her voice dropping into a smooth, sultry register as she landed lightly on top of the central crate, her long bare legs exposed high along the silk line of her tunic.
Tae-woo and the four elite vanguards stepped forward in unison, slamming their wide blocks of basin rock flat against the granite floor to block the main entrance line, forming a solid, unbroken wall of dark mountain rock that completely trapped Sang-woo’s father inside the vault.
Jun-ho walked right up to the old man, his rubber boots sliding smoothly over the white ice, the blunt matte tip of his black sword pointing straight at the gold crest on the director’s cloak.
