Global Descent: I Alone Can See Hidden Evolution Paths
Chapter 207: soul bind
The ice inside the granite vault room didn’t melt under the white furnace lights. It sat thick, a grey crust of hard frost that turned the surface grease into solid white plates. The four corporate mages lay near the base of the iron pillars, their silver staves snapped neatly into grey wood shards from Rea’s quick blade work.
Commander Jin-young was stuck on his knees three paces away, his white custom alloy armor caked in frozen soot, his lightning broadsword dropped flat in the muck. The sixty-second skill lock from the pocket watch inside Jun-ho’s pocket was still ticking down, keeping his active lines perfectly dark.
Sang-woo’s father stood pressed against the back of the granite desk, his fingers clawing at the gold crest on his blue wool cloak. His face had turned the color of wet chalk, his mouth opening and closing in a quiet, trembling circle as he looked at the stone slabs of Jun-ho’s chest plate.
Rea stayed balanced on top of the largest steel security box. She didn’t drop down into a defensive stance. She shifted her weight with a slow, deliberate swing of her hips, the high-slashed silk of her black tunic parting all the way to her upper thigh to show the long, smooth line of her leg under the yellow light. Her full red lips curved into a lazy, teasing smile, and her golden-blue eyes spun slowly as she looked down at Jun-ho’s face.
"He’s all yours, big guy," Rea murmured, her voice a deep, sultry purr that cut right through the cold hum of the frost. She stretched her torso back against the crate casing, the tight black silk pulling flat across the rounded curves of her chest and narrowing into the perfect, small line of her waist. "The old man has the master guild registry logged inside his coat pocket. If you let him keep it, the regional office will just print a fresh crew log by afternoon."
Jun-ho took two slow steps forward, his rubber boots making a steady, firm scrape against the white ice. He didn’t lift The Ash Remnant to strike. He just let the blunt tip of the solid black matte blade rest right against the center of the director’s throat armor.
"The registry," Jun-ho said. His voice was quiet, completely dry.
"Jun-ho... wait," the old man choked out, his chest heaving against the cold metal edge of the sword. "We can make a deal. The Sun God Guild has four subsidiary offices in the central district. I can sign over the ownership files for the Sillim sector. You can have the safe houses, the equipment crates, the training licenses... everything. Just leave the maritime ledger in the room."
"The ledger belongs to the floor now," Jun-ho said flatly.
He didn’t use his hands to search the coat. He simply snapped his left wrist by a fraction, the five-hundred-fold weight calculation of the blade pressing down until the old man’s knees gave way, forcing him to drop straight onto the frosted granite tiles. A thick leather-bound document stamped with the gold seal of the legacy families slipped out of his inner vest pocket, hitting the white ice with a soft click.
Eun-bi walked up from the rear line, her canvas bag slung tight across her gray flannel shirt. Her dark hair was tied back tightly with the gauze pad, but her sharp face was set in a hard, stubborn line as she looked at Rea’s bare legs dangling over the edge of the box. She reached down, picked up the master document, and jammed her silver registration key straight into the wax seal, her fingers working fast as she checked the code lines under her headlamp.
"The signature is clean, Jun-ho," Eun-bi said, her voice returning to that flat, public-sector drawl as she verified the text blocks. "The Sun God auxiliary loop is officially transferred to our detail. They don’t have a legal claim to the southern sidings anymore."
Rea let out a short, soft laugh that sounded like silk sliding over stone. She slid off the steel crate with a slow, fluid stride, her hips swaying in a tight, rhythmic cadence that drew the eye straight to the high cut of her black tunic. She walked right up to Jun-ho’s side, her long bare arm brushing slowly against the stone-gray slab of his shoulder guard, her fingers tracing a small line down his bare forearm with a teasing, light friction.
"You’re very efficient, Vanguard," Rea whispered, her full red lips almost touching his ear as she leaned the weight of her chest right against his ribs, her golden-blue eyes spinning in a lazy, victorious circle. Her wild orchid perfume was thick, cutting right through the cold sulfur smell of the vault. "But the little nurse hasn’t opened the secondary locker yet. Look at the three-bracket box under the main desk."
Eun-bi unzipped the smallest security box near the keel plates, her scissors clicking against the iron frame. Inside the dark wood lining lay an ancient, unregistered artifact—a small, round stone mirror framed in dark brass, its center burning with a permanent, deep ash-gray current that matched the logic lines of the Ash Monarch phase.
[Item Logged: The Monarch’s Mirror (Ancient Variant).]
[Utility: Allows the host to permanently bond an independent master rogue to the private detail registry, multiplying all stealth and drop values by an additional 10x value.]
[System Note: Phase 3 framework requires a mutual mana circulation to finalize the seal.]
Rea looked down at the stone mirror, her golden-blue eyes flaring with a sudden, intense heat that made her crimson lips part slightly. She didn’t look at Eun-bi; she kept her gaze locked straight onto Jun-ho’s eyes, her fingers sliding down his wrist until her bare palm was pressed flat against his hand over the hemp wrap of his sword.
"Let’s loop the mana, big guy," she murmured, her voice dropping into a smooth, sultry register that was thick with invitation. Her hips leaned closer, her warm thigh wedged firmly against his denim trousers as she let her cold, dark rogue energy flood straight into his hand. "Lock me into the book. I’m tired of working the offshore auctions alone anyway."
Jun-ho didn’t pull back an inch. He let the frozen ocean behind his ribs break its banks, the cold mana circulation passing through his palm and straight into her wrist, sealing the gray text lines across both their visions in a single microsecond.
[Soul Bind Complete: Rogue Broker ’Rea’ has been locked to your private detail.]
Before the gray notification boxes could even clear away, a massive, deafening CRACK exploded from the front entrance line.
The three-layer stone barrier Tae-woo’s squad had raised didn’t just bend; it fractured down the middle as the Ministry naval cutters’ heavy enforcer squad finally breached the outer doors. Twenty men in thick, polished grey steel breastplates burst through the dust, their automated crossbows primed with blue tracking bolts, their iron clubs raised to clear the vault.
"Target identified!" the lead enforcer shouted through his visor, his hand already releasing his string. "Rogue runners, drop the crates and get on the floor!"
Tae-woo let out a short, nasal grunt, his massive Tier 4 elite frame making the granite tiles creak as he stepped straight into the center of the aisle. He didn’t drop back. He hoisted his wide block of dark basin rock with both hands, his four squad mates locking their stones right next to his shoulders to form a solid, five-man mountain wall across the narrow floor lane.
The blue tracking bolts hit the dark rock barriers with a series of dull, harmless clicks that didn’t leave a single white mark on the stone.
Jun-ho raised The Ash Remnant with his left hand, the new hemp wrap firm in his grip as the Phase 3 domain frost began to spread across the new enforcers’ boots, while the solid black text at the bottom of his eye mapped out the final clearance of the northern channel.
