Global Descent: I Alone Can See Hidden Evolution Paths
Chapter 218: black furnace
The concrete siding behind the old brick kiln line didn’t carry the raw, freezing wetness of the offshore reefs. It was a closed, subterranean vault chamber, five levels below the municipal rail system, built from thick slabs of unrefined gray mountain granite that were bolted straight into the foundational bedrock of the central district.
The air inside was dense, completely still, and vibrated with the constant, low hum of a Tier 5 corporate security mesh that cast no light but made the teeth click together from the pure electrical friction.
Jun-ho walked out from the narrow drainage slot first, his large rubber boots caked in a dry, gray volcanic dust. The stone-gray slabs of the Ashen Monarch Core Plate sat perfectly rigid over his chest, absorbing the greasy oil condensation that dripped from the ceiling pipes. His left hand kept a casual, hard grip on the wet hemp wrap of The Ash Remnant, the blunt matte-black blade balanced easy by his thigh.
Right at his left shoulder, Lilith moved with a slow, swaying posture that made the tight crimson leather of her outfit rustle softly against his armor line. Her long, exceptionally smooth legs cut a clean, fluid line through the low purple mist of the canal, her narrow waist twisting with a lazy, deliberate rhythm that accentuated the large, perfectly round curve of her fit ass beneath the leather casing.
Every time the stone path sloped downward into a fissure, her voluptuous frame would press right against his side, her massive, half-visible chest rising and falling in deep, slow breaths that carried the heavy scent of raw sulfur and dark incense straight to his neck. Her wide crimson eyes glowed with a lazy, dangerous fire under her long ink-black hair, her full red lips parted into a quiet chuckle.
"The three security mages are sitting right behind that iron mesh screen, big guy," Lilith whispered, her voice dropping into a smooth, velvety purr that was close against his ear. Her long fingers, tipped with sharp crimson nails, slid slowly over the stone-gray plate of his armor with a teasing, hot friction. "They’re running an automated tracking loop that connects straight to the main harbor terminal. If you force the bolt manually, the network will drop three layers of reinforced stone barriers to seal the sector from the outside."
"The barriers are thin," Jun-ho said, his voice flat like stone.
On his right side, Rea walked like a patch of smooth silk, the high-slashed line of her black tunic parting all the way to her upper thigh to show her smooth skin under the yellow safety lamps. Her golden-blue eyes didn’t look at the demon girl; they stayed locked onto the thick iron deadbolts of the vault door, her full crimson lips curved into that same lazy smile as her hip remained wedged tight against his denim trousers for stability on the sloped gravel.
"The loop is old, Jun-ho," Rea murmured, her wild orchid perfume cutting right through the sulfur smell of the tunnel. "If the little nurse can bypass the electronic transponder from behind, my obsidian dagger can clear the rear line mages before the alarm stone can even release a single spark."
Eun-bi walked right behind their shoulders, her canvas bag slung tight across her gray flannel shirt. Her dark hair was tied back tightly with the gauze pad, but her sharp face was set in a hard, stubborn line as her gaze stayed locked onto the two women pressing close against his sleeves.
She tapped her silver trauma scissors against her wrist ring with a sharp, impatient click, her regular, flat public-sector drawl steady. "The manual paper logs say the master database terminal is hidden under the central desk. I have the registration key ready, Jun-ho. Just don’t let these two brokers touch the inventory slot before the raid is officially registered on my screen."
Jun-ho didn’t answer them with a speech. He took two slow steps forward, his boots making a steady, firm crunch against the wet granite tiles. He reached into his duffel bag with his bare left hand, his fingers closing around the cold brass lock of The Monarch’s Ledger.

A sharp, heavy click exploded through his mind—a mechanical sound that made the entire granite roundhouse vibrate with a low, deep resonance. The thick iron deadbolts on the vault door didn’t flash or explode; they simply sheared cleanly down the middle, the broken halves sliding back into the frame with a loose, hollow scrape that left the three-foot opening wide open.
[The Monarch’s Ledger Multiplier Active: 100x Area Resource Block Applied.]
"Rogue—" the lead security mage inside the room tried to shout, his hand reaching for his silver staff on the desk.
Jun-ho didn’t let him finish the syllable. He stepped straight through the threshold, his large rubber boots landing flat on the stone floor blocks.

A sudden, circular wave of thick grey frost blew outward from his boots, instantly covering the granite tiles and turning the chemical grease puddles near the six steel crates into solid white discs of hard glass for thirty meters around the room. The temperature dropped forty degrees in a microsecond, the active tracking loops inside the mages’ visors freezing into solid gray boxes for sixty seconds, leaving their silver staves dark and useless.
Lilith and Rea moved together in a single, fluid blur of red leather and black silk. With their multiplied Phase 3 rogue speed, they cut a clean line through the frozen mist, Lilith’s crimson nails tearing the silver staves out of the mages’ hands while Rea’s obsidian dagger sliced through their communication wires with a rapid series of sharp clacks. The three corporate mages didn’t even have the seconds required to finish a single chant, dropping their broken rods into the gray muck.
Tae-woo and the four elite vanguards stepped forward in unison, slamming their wide blocks of dark basin rock flat against the concrete floor to block the main entry path, forming an unbroken mountain wall that completely closed the lane from behind.
Jun-ho walked right up to the central security crate, his fingers closing around the rough black hemp wrap of The Ash Remnant as the six steel vaults began to split open under the immense pressure of his thousand-fold blade, while the solid black text at the bottom of his eye mapped out the final extraction of the city treasury.
