Chapter 262: 262

The distance between them closed to three hundred meters before Vespera moved.

When she did, the transition wasn’t a run; it was a spatial tear. The silver ceremonial saber in her right hand swept upward in a clean, vertical arc, and the entire surface of the magnetic transit rail exploded upward into a wall of jagged, violet-tinted icicles that whistled through the air like thrown lath blades.

"She’s splitting the grid!" Lilith hissed.

Before the ice shards could reach them, Lilith was already moving. In a blur of crimson leather, she vaulted off Jun-ho’s right arm, her dual obsidian daggers flashing twice as she batted the leading edge of the ice wall aside with brutal, calculated efficiency. The impact sent a spray of glowing violet dust raining down over the wet steel rails.

"I’ve got the left flank, big guy!" Lilith called out, her voice sharp and breathless as she landed in a low crouch three paces ahead, her wide crimson eyes locked entirely on Vespera’s silver-haired form. "Don’t let her wrap the rail in a static lock!"

Rea didn’t wait for a command. With a low, explosive gasp, she launched herself off Jun-ho’s left side, the high-slashed silk of her black tunic whipping through the freezing air like a banner. Her short sword cleared its scabbard with a sharp, metallic shriek, and she dove straight into the lower maintenance trench beneath the rails, aiming to flank Vespera’s support pylons before the enforcer could anchor her administrative grid.

"The support anchors are cycling power from the cape!" Rea’s voice echoed back up from the trench, hard and furious. "Break the center line, Jun-ho! She’s exposed if the core feedback loops!"

On the open viaduct, Jun-ho stood completely alone in the center of the vibrating magnetic rails.

Eun-bi ducked behind a rusted utility box near the rear, her fingers shielding her face as the temperature dropped another ten degrees in a single second. "Jun-ho! Her baseline just spiked past level sixty-five! The administrative grid is feeding her direct imperial mana!"

Tae-woo raised his submachine gun, tracking the falling icicles overhead, but lowered the barrel with a curse. "Bullets won’t even scratch a field of that density, boss! You have to take the center!"

Vespera stood two hundred meters away, her midnight-blue silk trench coat snapping violently around her breathtaking, voluptuous frame as she drove the pommel of her silver saber straight down into the concrete rail.

"Arrogant fool," Vespera’s voice rang out, cold, melodic, and dripping with absolute sovereign disdain as a massive dome of blue-violet frost erupted around her, expanding outward to swallow the entire viaduct. "Your 9,200x strike weight means nothing against a localized absolute zero domain!"

The frost didn’t just crawl across the metal; it froze the air itself, turning every breath into solid glass needles.

Jun-ho didn’t blink. His heavy rubber boots remained planted two feet apart on the vibrating rail, the soles melting the tiny frost crystals instantly beneath his weight. His plain gray shirt was stiff as sheet metal now, clinging like a second skin to the massive, iron-hard lines of his shoulders.

His left hand tightened around the rough black hemp wrap of The Ash Remnant. The four ancient characters carved into the matte metal didn’t glow white this time; they turned a deep, ferocious crimson as the lake of mana behind his ribs broke its banks completely.

[Class Skill Initiated: Monarch’s Decree - Absolute Weight Variant.]

[Target Domain: Vespera’s Frost-Veil Grid (Level 65).]

[Kinetic Framework Multiplier: 9,200x -> 11,500x Overdrive.]

Jun-ho didn’t dodge, and he didn’t wait for Lilith or Rea to clear the zone. He raised the heavy matte blade above his shoulder and brought it down in a single, unyielding vertical slash straight toward the center of Vespera’s expanding frost dome.

The impact didn’t make a sound.

Instead, the entire two-hundred-meter radius of absolute zero frost simply vanished—not melted, but erased from existence. The shockwave of the 11,500x strike weight traveled along the magnetic rails faster than light, shattering Vespera’s silver saber into thousands of tiny, glowing splinters before the force even touched her chest.

Vespera’s breathtaking face went completely pale, her glowing violet eyes widening in sudden, utter disbelief as the heavy pressure of Jun-ho’s frame hit her defense grid like a falling mountain.

She flew backward off the transit platform, her midnight-blue silk coat billowing like a broken wing as she crashed hard against the outer security bulkhead of the cape terminal.

Silence fell over the viaduct instantly, broken only by the hum of the magnetic rails and the heavy, measured breathing of Jun-ho standing alone in the center of the track.

The shockwave didn’t just clear the frost; it stripped the ambient temperature of the entire outer cape down to a dry, burning vacuum that made your lungs ache for moisture.

Vespera slid down the smooth metal face of the security bulkhead, her breath coming in ragged, shallow gasps. The silver ceremonial saber was gone, reduced to a heap of glowing iron dust scattered across the magnetic rails. Her breathtaking, aristocratic face was stark pale, a thin line of bright crimson blood trickling down the corner of her full lips and staining the high collar of her obsidian bodysuit.

The midnight-blue silk trench coat, torn at the shoulder, hung loosely around her frame, parting to expose the deep, heaving curve of her chest as she fought to draw air past Jun-ho’s localized gravitational pressure.

"A level... eleven-thousand-five-hundred-fold multiplier..." Vespera rasped, her glowing violet eyes fixed on Jun-ho with a mixture of disbelief and a strange, burning intensity. She forced her tall, statuesque frame to push off the bulkhead, her long legs trembling slightly as she stood upright. "The high council’s registry... it listed you as a baseline anomaly. You aren’t an anomaly, Jun-ho. You’re a walking system collapse."

Jun-ho didn’t answer. He walked toward her with his heavy, unyielding cadence, the rubber soles of his boots crunching against the frost dust. He stopped three paces away, towering over her, his massive frame radiating a dull, suffocating heat that melted the ice crystals clinging to the hem of her coat.

His left hand held The Ash Remnant down at his side, the matte metal silent. His plain gray shirt, soaked through with sweat and tight against his broad chest, rose and fell in slow, rhythmic intervals.

Before Vespera could straighten her posture, Lilith materialized from the side rail like a shadow.

The crimson-clad assassin didn’t look at the fallen enforcer with pity; her wide crimson eyes burned with a possessive, territorial heat. In a single fluid motion, Lilith stepped past Jun-ho, closing the distance between herself and Vespera. Her hand shot out, catching the high collar of Vespera’s torn trench coat and yanking the silver-haired commander forward until their faces were inches apart.

"You had a lot of grand things to say about cleaning plates and stripping ledgers from two miles away, little ice queen," Lilith purred, her voice dripping with venomous amusement. Her full red lips curled into a sharp, predatory smile as her gaze flicked down to the blood on Vespera’s chin. "How does the air taste down here on the rails? Not quite as clean as the high council’s balcony, does it?"

Vespera’s violet eyes flared with cold fury, her slender fingers twitching as if reaching for a blade she no longer had. "Get your hands off me, rat of the lower trenches—"

"Quiet," Lilith interrupted, her voice dropping to a low, sultry hiss. Instead of releasing her, Lilith leaned in closer, her crimson leather suit pressing tight against Vespera’s obsidian-clad torso. "The big guy didn’t break your grid so you could trade insults. He broke it so you’d learn who owns the board now."

Rea slid out from the maintenance trench a second later, her high-slashed silk tunic fluttering as she stepped up to Jun-ho’s opposite side. Her gold-and-blue eyes spun in a lazy, dangerous circle, locking onto Vespera with an expression of sharp, feline superiority.

Without a word, Rea reached out, her bare arm brushing deliberately hard against Jun-ho’s left sleeve before sliding across to grab Vespera’s wrist, pinning her arm firmly against her side.

"The demon girl is right," Rea said, her voice dropping into a low, uncompromising register. Her shoulder pressed heavy and hot against Jun-ho’s ribs, establishing her space right beside his frame. "The discipline commander wanted to lock our ledger in the deep vault. Now she’s just another asset waiting for instructions."

Vespera tried to pull her arm away, but Rea’s grip, backed by the ambient kinetic weight radiating off Jun-ho’s frame, held like a vice. Vespera’s breathtaking chest heaved heavily against Lilith’s hold, her glowing violet gaze darting from the two women up to Jun-ho’s impassive dark eyes.

"You think capturing me changes the high council’s mandate?" Vespera breathed out, her voice dropping an octave as she stared directly at Jun-ho, a strange, breathless heat flushing across her pale cheeks under his relentless gaze. "The administrative platform is locked behind my biometric seal. Without me, you can’t access the core uplink to the upper continent."

Jun-ho didn’t blink. He raised his right hand—free of The Ash Remnant—and reached out.

His broad, calloused palm settled firmly against the back of Vespera’s neck, his fingers sinking into the thick, luminous silver-white waves of her hair. The touch was heavy, unyielding, and possessed an absolute, casual dominance that made Vespera’s breath catch audibly in her throat. Her body went rigid for a microsecond before the overwhelming heat of his frame began to seep through her collar, making her knees feel suddenly weak.

"I don’t need a biometric seal," Jun-ho said quietly, his voice dry and deep, vibrating right against her skin. "I broke the gate. I’ll break the seal."

Vespera’s lips parted slightly, her violet eyes dilating as she stared up into his dark, unreadable face, caught entirely between the crushing weight of his presence and the intoxicating surge of raw mana pulsing off his skin.

Lilith laughed softly, a dark, throaty sound, pressing her hips tighter against Jun-ho’s side while her free hand traced a slow, teasing circle over Vespera’s shoulder. "Looks like you just got a promotion, commander. Welcome to the ledger."

Jun-ho tightened his grip slightly on the back of Vespera’s neck, drawing her a fraction closer before turning his massive frame toward the gleaming administrative platform waiting at the end of the cape.

"Move," Jun-ho said.
