Chapter 227: Chapter 169: Base Pets, New Weapons (2)

Meanwhile, everyone on the yacht had also received Si Youqin’s notice: the base was keeping a group of white mice as pets.

"Our base is so carefree. Everyone else is just trying to figure out how to survive, and we’re already keeping pets!"

"I know, right? But why mice, of all things? I’m terrified of them!"

"Yeah, I just hope they don’t get into my house!"

"I wouldn’t be so sure. Mice can squeeze through the tiniest cracks!"

"In that case, I’m sealing up every single crack when I get back tonight!"

"What’s there to be afraid of? We’re Evolvers now. Are we really going to be scared of a little mouse?"

"The problem is that those white mice are all Evolutionary Forms! They evolved several days before we did!"

"To be precise, we aren’t even Evolvers yet. We’ve still got a few hours to go!"

"Then what are we supposed to do? If a white mouse actually gets in, we won’t even be able to shoo it away!"

Si Youqin frowned slightly. "Don’t worry for now, everyone. I’ll check with the higher-ups to see if this is a real risk."

"Yes, Sister Qin!" everyone replied in unison.

Before dinner, Si Youqin found Qin Haonan. "Minister Qin, everyone’s worried that those evolved white mice will get into the bamboo houses..."

Qin Haonan smiled and shook his head. "Don’t worry, they won’t."

Hearing Qin Haonan’s unusually confident tone, Si Youqin was puzzled. ’The evolved mice aren’t kept in cages, so how can he be so sure?’

As if sensing her confusion, Qin Haonan continued, "I confirmed it with the Chief."

Si Youqin paused for a moment, then immediately said, "I understand. If Minister Qin has confirmed it, then of course there’s no problem!"

Just as Si Youqin was getting this confirmation, a white mouse had already found its way to the group’s work area on the yacht.

It climbed onto a tree branch, stood up on its hind legs, and watched them curiously.

"Could that be one of the white mice Sister Qin was talking about?"

"Huh? Where? Don’t scare me!"

"Look, right there on that branch! It actually looks kind of cute!"

After evolving, the white mice seemed more intelligent. They weren’t like the drab, somewhat frightening house mice; these ones actually looked rather cute!

"Yeah, they’re so tiny! And their fur is so white!"

"No wonder the higher-ups are keeping them as pets. I kind of want one myself now!"

"They don’t look scary at all. Maybe we were overreacting."

One of the braver members slowly approached the white mouse and held out her palm. "Come on up, little guy!"

The white mouse seemed to sense her friendly intentions. After a moment’s hesitation, it actually hopped onto her palm.

Everyone slowly gathered around, carefully observing the little white mouse.

Just then, Si Youqin hurried back and saw everyone gathered together instead of working.

"What’s going on? What happened?" Si Youqin asked urgently.

"Sister Qin, you’re back! We found one of the base’s pets. It’s so cute!" said the member holding the white mouse, a smile on her face.

Looking at the cute little mouse, Si Youqin felt a sense of exasperation. "Looks like I wasted my breath asking about them for you. You’re not even scared!"

"We just didn’t expect the base’s pets to be so adorable!"

"Yeah! But it wasn’t a complete waste, Sister Qin. Quick, tell us what the higher-ups said!"

Si Youqin smiled and replied, "The Chief said that the white mice definitely won’t enter anyone’s bamboo house."

"Aww, that’s a shame! If a cute little thing like that could come into our houses, the evenings might not be so boring!"

Si Youqin rolled her eyes. "Weren’t you the one who was most terrified of a mouse getting into your room just a minute ago? You changed your tune awfully fast!"

The little white mouse surveyed the group, then leaped from the woman’s palm and scampered away in a flash.

"Aww, why did it run off!" everyone cried out in disappointment.

Seeing their disappointed faces, Si Youqin said with a smile, "No need to be so disappointed. I heard the base has nearly two hundred of these pet mice, so you’ll be seeing them around a lot."

"That’s great news!" everyone cheered happily.

"It’s dinnertime. Let’s all go eat. Afterward, we need to record what type of superpower everyone has awakened," Si Youqin announced.

"Alright!" The group headed for the yacht, chatting as they went.

The little white mouse that had run off began searching for its companions to share the identities it had just registered—Si Youqin and the others. This was the command Ren Yuanyang had given them.

After dinner, the twenty women who had received the Evolution Potion that morning became Evolvers one by one.

A tally of their new powers showed: two Gold-Type, five Wood-Type, six Water-Type, four Fire-Type, and three Earth-Type.

Si Youqin immediately reported the results.

Ren Yuanyang was somewhat disappointed that no one had awakened a special type.

Then again, awakening a special type wasn’t easy; it was a matter of pure chance, not something one could strive for.

"Have them practice their Superpowers daily," Ren Yuanyang instructed.

"Understood. I’ll remind them," Lu Jiamei replied.

Ren Yuanyang nodded slightly and turned to Qin Haonan. "You used a second Evolution Potion. Have you felt anything special at all yet?"

Qin Haonan shrugged. "Nothing at all. Looks like we just wasted an Evolution Potion."

"I wouldn’t call it a waste," Ren Yuanyang said, shaking his head. "At least now we’ve confirmed that a second dose of the same Evolution Potion has no effect on an existing Evolver. This will keep others from making the same mistake."
