Chapter 894 - 247: Jerky
Su Changxing watched that person approach, then pulled out a dagger, got up, and rushed over, feeling another presence here; a quick battle was needed.
The person’s crowbar swung at Su Changxing first.
Su Changxing blocked with one hand in front of his head, while his other hand thrust the dagger forward.
The crowbar’s force was heavy, almost making Su Changxing’s arm cave in, but he successfully blocked it.
At such a clever distance, Su Changxing slashed the person’s throat with the dagger, then quickly retreated to avoid secondary injury.
For Zombies, anything other than a head injury won’t be life-threatening, but injuries to limbs like arms or thighs will inevitably affect combat ability.
Moreover, Zombies inherently lack strong Self-Healing Ability; even a minor wound won’t heal for a long time, and might remain forever.
"Ah, you... you... you..."
The person kneeled on the ground, covering his neck with his hands but unable to stop the warm blood from gushing out. Su Changxing’s slash must have severed his main artery.
Barring any surprises, this person would quickly die within half a minute.
Humans are inherently fragile creatures; even small wounds can be fatal.
Just then, the third person in the room rushed out, looking at the scene in the corridor with horror.
"What kind of monster are you!"
He was a young man, his face covered in freckles. Seeing both of his companions lying on the ground, he was terrified, knowing that this strange Zombie before him was clearly not an ordinary one.
In such a world, fear is the end, as fear breeds cowardice and strips one of the right to survive.
Without any hesitation, Su Changxing saw the man turn to flee and immediately gave chase.
"Don’t kill me!"
"Don’t kill me!"
Cornered in the room, the young man had nowhere to escape, repeatedly pleading and begging Su Changxing to spare him.
Su Changxing sighed inwardly, stepped forward, and stabbed him in the chest, piercing his heart, ending his life.
Having already acted, he would show no compassion.
This self-aware Zombie may very well be hunted by these humans, as his overall ability is too weak for an ordinary Zombie.
Being weak, he had to adopt other methods for self-preservation.
Blood flowed on the dust-covered floor and dried up quickly.
Su Changxing felt somewhat helpless; he initially intended to find a place to hide, but instead ran into these individuals who seemed to be scavenging for supplies and had been hiding upstairs for some time, making it difficult to tell from the outside.
Given this, there are actually quite a few humans in the city, always possible to run into.
Su Changxing tidied up their belongings but didn’t find anything special, except a bag of jerky which he opened and chewed, instantly feeling the sweet taste spreading in his mouth.
Indeed, Zombies only feel pleasure from eating meat; it doesn’t count as a sense of taste but rather the body’s acceptance of flesh, driving the Zombie to consume more.
Su Changxing estimated that Zombies indulging in flesh could potentially enhance their strength, beyond mere instinctual desire.
Yet, this method’s efficiency is rather low; mere observation hardly reveals such enhancement.
Without lingering more, he prepared to leave this place, as having just killed people, their companions might arrive soon.
If they could once connect through a forum, these people might have similar means of communication, so carelessness was not an option.
He could easily take down these three mainly due to his battle awareness, honed through countless battles, making it as simple as eating or drinking, despite this Zombie’s attributes being weaker than ordinary humans.
In the previous fight, his movements were preemptive, dodging attacks and blocking with his arms.
This clone was simply too weak; its Perception was overly dull, akin to playing online games with a three to four hundred millisecond lag, with inferior attributes compared to opponents, relying purely on skill and awareness to prevail.
He still decided to find a similar building to hide in; though a Zombie populous area could easily avoid humans, there existed other monsters in this world, some potentially preying on Zombies, or Zombie-like creatures devouring their kind.
Zones of human activity at least indicated it wasn’t overly dangerous.
The "big guy" encountered earlier fortunately didn’t have a cannibalistic Nature, which was lucky; otherwise, things could have ended differently then.
After two streets, there were mainly old buildings, some partially collapsed into ruins over time.
He arrived at a half-collapsed building, entered the stairs, where many stones lay on the ground, steel bars protruding from walls, surrounded by overgrown weeds and blooming purple flowers.
Beside the wall were several mummies, dead for some time, bodies blackened, strangely avoided by Zombies.
Su Changxing hesitated, turned around, and left, sensing that something was amiss, a Zombie instinct perhaps.
After some hassle.
He found another house nearby, climbed to the third floor, passing two wandering Zombies in the corridor.
Su Changxing ignored them, slipped into a room, and shut the door; with his peers around, he felt somewhat safer, with potential buffs in danger, or peers as sentinels against any approach.
It was already midnight, though he couldn’t tell the exact hour, as time in this world wasn’t fixed, constantly shifting in a distorted state.
He leaned against the window, glancing out, observing the situation outside, wondering if he might spot the Mysterious Shop.
Probably not, and indeed he couldn’t.
After watching for a long time, no light source resembling the Mysterious Shop appeared, indicating that a regular Zombie couldn’t detect the Mysterious Shop’s existence.
"Hiss hiss."
Su Changxing exhaled, sensing the ongoing difficult battle at the main body.
Even though the plague had rotted most of Wanfang’s body, and Su Changxing had been eradicated twice already, Wanfang had managed to unleash the Withered Bone Godslaying Curse a third time, seemingly defying fate with some madness.
With each use of the Withered Bone Godslaying Curse, his complexion aged further; yet the curse’s strength grew, compensating for the plague’s weakening.
