Chapter 128 - 102: Peak Showdown

Chapter 128: Chapter 102: Peak Showdown

[World Chat Channel (788211)]

[Experts of Cuiwei Star]

Ding Dong: "Younger Brother Lin, so it turns out those bees were members of your army all along!"

Zhang Jing: "Hahaha, the Pig Team is nothing special!! They still got utterly smashed by Boss Yun’s Golden Corps!!"

Zhang Jing: "The Golden Corps is the greatest in the world!"

...

The members of the chat group were buzzing with discussion about the recent battle. It turned out that halfway through the fight, Yun Qihao had started a livestream. Perhaps it was because he rarely encountered an army that was a worthy opponent, perhaps he wanted to show off his powerful army to everyone, or perhaps it was for some other reason entirely.

But whatever the case, everyone got to see the spectacular battle.

One thing was certain: Lin Yu’s Highly Poisonous Bees and Shadow Reapers were now known to all.

With the traits of these two unit types exposed, they had lost their air of mystery. In future battles, they would be without their greatest buff: stealth.

Lin Yu paid no mind to the discussions in the group chat. He hurried to the Training Camp and soon met with his revived soldiers.

In the break room, Phantom and Amuti were debriefing the recent battle, surrounded by a circle of the army’s elite.

When Lin Yu entered the break room, he found them in the middle of a heated discussion.

Lin Yu was pleased to see that instead of being discouraged, they were busy analyzing tactics.

"I’m glad to see you aren’t discouraged."

"You all did a great job in that last battle. The enemy army’s quality was far superior to ours, so to be able to fight them to that extent was already an excellent result."

"However, moving forward, I need to adjust the army’s composition."

"Highly Poisonous Bees, your strength is your stealth."

"However, the lord of the Golden Corps livestreamed this battle, so in the future, enemies will most likely know you exist. Because of that, you won’t be able to participate in the upcoming fights."

"BZZZ~~"

"Okay, okay, I know you’ve all worked very hard. It’s just that your main duty in the territory is producing honey. Getting this far in the battle has already exceeded my expectations."

"BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ~~"

"Alright, alright. From now on, I’ll leave more honey for you to eat yourselves. I won’t take it all every time."

...

After placating the Highly Poisonous Bees, Lin Yu turned to the Shadow Reapers. He noted their nervous expressions and then skipped over them.

"Spiny Porcupines, your attack power seems to be lacking now."

"So, you’ll have to be benched too. Of course, there will still be rewards for you."

...

Lin Yu readjusted his army’s composition, replacing the Highly Poisonous Bees and Spiny Porcupines with Corruption Spreaders and Elemental Druids.

The Elemental Druids, as one of the territory’s veteran mainstay units, had made outstanding contributions in many battles, which need no further elaboration here.

A Corruption Spreader looked very much like a large, humanoid Slime (think Zac from LoL).

(They won’t sue me for copyright infringement, will they??)

Its attack methods consisted of melee attacks and a ranged attack in which it threw a small piece of its body (costing it health, which could be regained by reabsorbing the thrown piece).

If a large number of these pieces were thrown out, they could connect, forming a puddle on the ground. This would inflict minor damage on any life form standing on it, with a chance of infecting them with the Corrupted status.

-----------------

[Name]: Corruption Spreader

[Quality]: Legendary (Purple)

[Level]: 1

[Attack]: 20

[Magic Power]: 90

[Speed]: 60

[Defense]: 10

[Health]: 240

[Skills]: Corruption, Spread, Ruin

[Talent]: Siphon

[Corruption]: A special status (neither a positive nor negative buff). An enemy in the Corrupted state will have their maximum health permanently reduced by 1% every minute.

The Corrupted status can only be cleansed by Magic of the Holy, Nature, or Life attributes.

Passive Effect: The Corruption Spreader’s attacks have a chance to apply the Corrupted status to the target.

Active Effect: Consume health to make the next attack apply the Corrupted effect and deal damage to the target corresponding to the health spent. For every 1% of maximum health consumed, the chance of application increases by 2%.

[Spread]: Every 2 minutes, an enemy with the Corrupted effect will spread it. If there are any living beings within 5 meters, one uninfected being will contract the Corrupted effect.

Upon death, an enemy with the Corrupted effect will spread it in a 10-meter radius, infecting all life forms within that area.

[Ruin]: Adds a new effect to Corruption: Ruin.

Causes an acceleration in the deterioration of all the target’s conditions.

Examples: accelerated aging, accelerated rusting, accelerated oxidation, magnification of negative emotions, increased suicidal tendencies...

It also extends the duration of negative buffs, shortens the duration of positive buffs, and increases all damage taken.

[Siphon]: The Corruption Spreader absorbs 10% of the health drained by Corruption, adding it to its own maximum health.

Absorbing the Corrupted effect from a target restores 10% of the Spreader’s current maximum health.

(These are the Level 1 stats; the actual unit is of course higher than Level 1.)

-----------------

The Corruption Spreader was an extremely rare growth-type unit. The only problem was that its Corruption was indiscriminate when it spread, affecting friend and foe alike, which made the unit incredibly difficult to manage.

After using a Skill Evolution Stone from the arena on the unit, Lin Yu successfully enhanced the Corruption Spreader’s "Siphon" talent, granting it the ability to absorb the Corrupted status. Only then did he officially add it to his combat roster.

Otherwise, by the end of a battle, his own troops would have been tormented half to death by Corruption, never mind the enemy.
