Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 498: The Might of an Axe
‘Long arms and long legs were surprising enough, but now you’re telling me he can grow back half his body? Isn’t that a bit over the top?’
He thought Damenevsky was joking, but the other man’s solemn expression told him it was all true.
Li Ziyu frowned and asked in confusion, “So what if he can grow back? He’s the enemy.”
A Void Lord! That’s a *Void Lord* we’re talking about.
‘You just fought the guy! You sliced him in two with an axe! And now you’re telling me he can just grow back?’
‘What exactly are you trying to do?’
‘Don’t you get it? You have to pull the weeds out by the root, or they’ll just grow back!’
‘Damenevsky, my friend, the only good enemy is a dead enemy.’
Damenevsky shrugged, looking unconcerned. “He’s a decent fellow. It’d be a shame for him to die just like this.”
‘A… sha… me…?’
Li Ziyu’s face fell. He stared speechlessly at Damenevsky. “I get that you two are kindred spirits, but isn’t this taking it a bit too far?”
Damenevsky turned to look at Bebuta, gave him a kick, and asked, “You want to come with us? There’ll be fights.”
Bebuta: …
After a long silence, Bebuta asked in return, “Will there be a fight that allows me to die a warrior’s death?”
Damenevsky laughed, then looked at Li Ziyu and said, “See? He’s a decent fellow.”
He then looked down at Bebuta, an excited grin spreading across his face. “I don’t know if you’ll get to die like a Warrior, but I know it’ll be interesting.”
Bebuta glanced at Damenevsky, then turned his head to look at Li Ziyu and the Undead beside him, apparently deep in thought.
“Alright…”
‘He sounds so reluctant.’
‘If you’re going to be that reluctant, maybe I should just kill you after all.’
‘I have a bad feeling that keeping you around is just asking for trouble.’
Li Ziyu ranted internally.
‘He could understand what was going on with Damenevsky and Bebuta. They were Warriors, after all. Two thick-skulled brutes, all brawn and no brain. It was only natural they’d feel like kindred spirits.’
‘But I just have to ask—Damenevsky, what do you take my Undead Race for?!’
‘I’m not the world-slaughtering Undead Race from the legends! I’m a pacifist!’
Li Ziyu waved his hand, and a few Undead walked over to lift Bebuta.
The guy was surprisingly heavy. It took a full eight Skeleton Undead to lift him, and they strained as they carried him into the Undead Fortress.
“Watching Bebuta get carried into the Fortress, Li Ziyu turned to Damenevsky. ‘Damenevsky, let’s get one thing straight. He has to sign a contract with me. I can’t just let him live in the Fortress like you.'”
“Why?” Damenevsky asked, confused.
“Because he’s not a Human. He’s an unpredictable variable. I have to bind him with a contract, otherwise I can’t rest easy,” Li Ziyu said bluntly, with no intention of hiding his reasoning.
“Oh. Alright.”
Li Ziyu had expected Damenevsky to ask why he didn’t need to sign a contract, but to his surprise, Damenevsky didn’t seem to care and simply nodded.
He didn’t really care about such things.
He was staying in the Undead Fortress purely because it was more interesting here.
He’d actually grown rather fond of these simple-minded Undead.
Saving Bebuta had been on a whim. As for what happened next, it had nothing to do with him.
The Master of the Undead said a contract was necessary, so a contract it was. What did that have to do with Damenevsky? If Bebuta didn’t survive and ended up dying, that was fine too. At least he had tried to save him.
Seeing Damenevsky agree so readily, Li Ziyu felt a retort die in his throat. Tsk. ‘This guy can be so annoying sometimes. Doesn’t he know how to play along?’
‘Whatever.’
‘Thick-skulled brute.’
Saying no more, Li Ziyu led the Undead and Damenevsky back to the Fortress.
At Li Ziyu’s command, the Undead carried Bebuta to the main building, found an empty room, and set him down.
Li Ziyu walked to Bebuta’s bedside and looked down at him. “Will you sign the contract? If not, I’ll send you on your way.”
