Global PvP Tower: I Can Infinitely Merge My Units
Chapter 104: Reinforced Base (1/2)
The notifications came in a flood the moment the forest stopped moving.
```
Alice made a sound that wasn’t quite a word.
"Forty-nine each." She read it three times before it stuck. "Every single person who went down in here counts for us. Even the ones the monsters got."
’Ninety-eight people. Cut straight down the middle.’ Logan felt the scale of it settle in slowly, and it was not a comfortable feeling. ’We killed almost none of them. We just outlived them.’
He thought about the young woman he’d pulled out from under that fist, and about the eleven dark towers, and found the reward sat strangely in his chest.
The event hadn’t rewarded them for winning. It had rewarded them for outlasting.
```
[ Event Reward ]
[ Tier Point Multiplier: 0.5x (permanent, both defenders) ]
[ Tower Points: 50,000 (shared) ]
```
"Half a multiplier." Alice whistled low. "That’s permanent. That’s every match from here on."
"That’s the real prize." Logan pulled the panel closer, reading it twice. "The points spend once. The multiplier never stops paying."
---
It was Alice who thought to open the elimination leaderboard.
She’d been chasing that particular screen for the whole event, and something about the silence afterward made her want one last look at where they’d landed.
What came up wasn’t the board she’d expected.
```
[ Global Elimination Leaderboard ]
[ Players remaining: 229 / 500 ]
>1. Vaerith Solmane: 89
>2. Ilyra Tanthess: 88
>3. Ruby Starviel: 67
>4. Leon Flanke: 63

Alice stared at the top two names.
She had never seen either of them. Neither had Logan. They hadn’t been at a single tower in the ring, hadn’t shown up on a single panel across fifty waves.
Then her eyes dropped one line, and she went very still.
"Logan."
"I see it."
"I’m above you." She said it slowly, like she didn’t quite trust the screen. "Sixty-seven. You’re sixty-three. I’m above you."
"You’re above me." He was already grinning. "Took you about ten minutes instead of a whole event. Congratulations."
"That is not how I wanted to win it." She was grinning too, helplessly, and not letting go of the screen. "But I am absolutely counting it."
’She earned that gap before the split ever landed.’ Logan looked at the four points between them and felt something warm and uncomplicated about it. ’Same forty-nine to both of us. The rest is just her.’
Then he looked higher and the warmth cooled.
"Five hundred, though." He said it slowly, working it out as he spoke. "There were a hundred of us here. So where did the other four hundred come from?"
"Two Mega Events." Alice’s eyes went wide as it landed. "There were two. Running at the same time, somewhere else in this world, and we never knew."
’Which means another pair did exactly what we just did.’ Logan looked at the two unfamiliar names sitting above them both. ’And they did it better.’
Ninety-eight gone from their ring. Ninety-eight more from a ring they’d never seen. The rest of the two hundred and seventy-one had been picked off in ordinary raids across the match.
"Look at fifth place, though." Alice tapped it. "Twenty-nine. The four of us are clustered up here and everyone else is nowhere close."
"Because only four people walked out of a Mega Event alive." Logan traced the top of the board. "Everyone above thirty on this list got handed a ring."
He said the first name out loud, testing it. "Vaerith Solmane. Eighty-nine."
"Twenty-two more than me." Alice’s grin had gone sharp again. "Fine. New target."
Logan laughed despite himself, and the tension of fifty waves finally cracked open a little.
But the name stayed with him.
’Somewhere in this match, there are two people stronger than us.’ He filed it carefully, the way he filed everything that mattered. ’Good. Now I know what I’m training toward.’
---
The return trip put them back on familiar water, and Alice spotted the island first.
She didn’t recognize it.
"Logan." She caught his sleeve. "Is that ours?"
It rose out of the sea like something that had always been there, cliffs of pale stone dropping straight into blue water, waterfalls spilling white down every face of them.
Above the cliffs sat a ring of wall, high and clean and banded in gold, and above that four slender towers stood at the compass points with light burning quiet at each spire.
’That was sand.’ Logan couldn’t quite make the two images meet in his head. ’That was a hundred meters of sand and four palm trees.’
```
[ Territory radius: 220 meters. ]
```
A causeway ran out from a gate on the southern face, arched and unsupported, hanging over open water like the builders had considered gravity optional.
Inside the wall the island opened into terraces and courtyards, green cut through with pale stone paths, all of it spiraling in toward a plaza at the center.
A spire of blue crystal stood at the middle of that plaza, taller than everything around it, humming a note Logan felt through the deck of the ship before he heard it.
"They built this." Alice’s voice had gone very quiet. "While we were gone. They built all of this."
The units met them at the dock, and Billy got there first.
"Took your time." He was grinning so hard it barely counted as a complaint. "We finished. Come look at what we finished."
---
Xairon met them halfway up the main stair, currently shaped like nothing in particular, chaotic energy sliding between forms as it walked.
It had been busy.
The guns were the first thing Logan noticed, because they were impossible to miss.
Mounted along the wall at regular intervals, long-barreled and gold-chased, each one sitting in a cradle that let it swing a full circle without a single dead angle.
They tracked the ship as it approached and then dismissed it, recognizing the two of them somewhere in whatever passed for the weapon’s judgment.
"Linked to the core," Xairon said, in a voice that came from several places at once. "They see what the island sees."
Logan walked the length of the nearest one, running a hand along the housing, and felt Runic Sigil Draventh’s work carved into every inch of it.
