Global PvP Tower: I Can Infinitely Merge My Units
Chapter 103: Dark Fall Conquest (9/9)
The forty-eighth wave nearly ended everything.
Three Ascended bosses converged on the same stretch of the ring at once, and the towers in that stretch had four defenders left between them.
The first one died before Logan arrived. The second died while he was still forty meters out.
He got there in time to see a fist the size of a wagon come down on a young human woman who’d been holding her line alone since her partner fell.
Reaper’s Stride wasn’t fast enough. Grimspire Lance was.
Logan willed the blade long mid-blink and drove eleven feet of condensed death energy up through the boss’s wrist, and the fist stopped six inches above the woman’s head.
She looked up at it. Then at him. Then she sat down very suddenly in the dirt.
"Get to the next tower." Logan didn’t look away from the boss. "Now."
She got.
Then it was him and three Ascended Mythics alone on a broken platform, with his stacks sitting at eighteen hundred and climbing.
```
[ Reaper’s Stride: 1,840 stacks. Speed +12,880%. ]
```
’Two thousand.’ He’d set the number back when the stacks first started climbing, and he held to it now. ’Two thousand, and I stop feeding it. Not one more.’
He knew exactly what was on the other side of that line. He’d been there twice.
He’d woken up on a mountainside with Rishin standing over him, and he’d felt his shoulder crack against a living wall in the Hive while his mind stayed cold and refused to listen.
’Not here. Alice still needs a partner at the end of this, not a body.’
```
[ Reaper’s Stride: 2,000 stacks. Speed +14,000%. ]
```
He stopped there. He held it there.
And then he fought three Ascended Mythic bosses at fourteen thousand percent speed and a blade that could reach through all of them at once.
The world went slow and quiet the way it always did at this speed. He moved between the three of them like they were standing still, and Grimspire Lance meant he never had to close all the way in.
He killed the first one in forty seconds. The second took ninety, because it learned.
The third one nearly got him. It caught his ankle mid-blink and slammed him through what remained of the platform, and for a moment Logan’s vision went white.
Then an arrow came through its skull from four hundred meters out, and the grip on his ankle went slack.
```
[ Starfall Cadence: 1,100 stacks. ]
```
Alice was already firing the next one before the first finished landing.
---
By wave forty-nine, they’d stopped fighting separately.
Alice held high ground behind whatever tower had the best sightline, Starlit Vigil feeding her targets across ten kilometers, Cadence stacked high enough that her arrows arrived in continuous streams rather than volleys.
Logan moved. That was his whole job now.
Grim Lock caught a target, and Reaper’s Stride put him on top of it. Grimspire Lance went through it, and Grim Siphoning Edge paid for the whole exchange.
Whatever he couldn’t reach in time, Alice shot.
Whatever she couldn’t kill alone, he arrived for.
’This is the best I have ever fought.’ The thought came to Logan somewhere in the middle of wave forty-nine, clean and certain. ’Not because of the stacks. Because of her.’
Four hundred meters away, Alice put three arrows through a Legendary boss’s spine and thought something remarkably similar.
’I’m not behind him.’ Her Cadence ticked past fourteen hundred and kept climbing. ’I’m beside him. That’s the whole point. That was always the whole point.’
The forty-ninth wave broke against the two of them and did not get through.
---
```
[ Wave 50: Final Wave. All remaining Ascended threats converging. ]
```
Six of them came out of the treeline together.
Six Ascended Mythic bosses, every one of them fattened on the deaths of players who hadn’t made it this far, walking in a line toward the center of the ring where the last defenders had gathered.
Nobody talked about strategy. There wasn’t time, and there wasn’t a need.
Kruk went first, because of course he did, straight into the middle of all six with his arms spread wide.
"HIT ME!"
They obliged. All six of them.
Kruk Bloodfang did not fall down. His Undying Fury stacks went somewhere Logan couldn’t read from a distance, and his next swing removed a boss’s head.
Lyria dropped her thunderhead on the second one and held it there, and Borga Ironvein hit the third so hard the impact registered as a seismic event.
The Emberleaf twins put four synchronized arrows through the fourth in the time it took anyone else to blink.
That left two.
Logan and Alice took them.
Grimspire Lance extended to its full reach, and Logan drove it through the fifth boss’s chest cavity, pinning it in place while Alice emptied fourteen hundred stacks of Cadence into the wound he’d opened.
Alice shot it in the back of the knee from six hundred meters, Puncture carrying the arrow straight through the joint without slowing, and Logan was standing over it before it finished falling.
He didn’t say anything clever. He just brought the lance down.
```
[ You have eliminated Voidmarrow Sovereign, Ascended. +24,000 points. ]
```
```
[ Wave 50 cleared. ]
[ Dark Fall Conquest: Survival phase complete. ]
```
The forest went quiet, and stayed quiet, and kept staying quiet.
It took Logan a full ten seconds to accept that nothing else was coming.
He let the Grimspire Lance collapse back into a sword. His hands were shaking. He noticed that with mild interest, the way you notice the weather.
```
[ Reaper’s Stride: stacks decaying. ]
```
’Two thousand.’ He watched the number start to fall and felt something loosen in his chest. ’Held it. Every wave. Held it the whole way.’
Alice reached him thirty seconds later, having crossed four hundred meters at a dead sprint, and she was grinning so hard it looked painful.
"Did you see it?" She was breathless. "Fourteen hundred stacks. It never stopped. It just kept going up."
"I saw it." Logan looked at her properly for the first time in ten waves and found he couldn’t stop looking as he smiled. "You held a tower alone for twenty waves, and then you kept eleven Ascended bosses off my back."
"Somebody had to." She said it lightly. Her eyes said something else entirely, looking cheery and ardent.
The leaderboard resolved above them both.
```
[ Final Individual Elimination Leaderboard ]
>1. Leon Flanke: 198,600
>2. Ruby Starviel: 181,300
>3. Sylvana Emberleaf: 168,400
>4. Corvin Emberleaf: 167,200
>5. Lyria Windshard: 164,800
>6. Kruk Bloodfang: 162,900
```
Alice looked at the seventeen thousand points between first and second place.
Before wave thirty-nine, that gap would have felt like a canyon. Before her talent woke up, it might have stung.
Now she just looked at it, and then looked at Logan, and found that it read like a distance she could close rather than a verdict she had to accept.
’Seventeen thousand.’ Her Cadence had gone quiet, but she could still feel where it had been. ’That’s not far. Not anymore.’
"Next event," she said.
Logan glanced over. "Next event what?"
"Next event I’m taking first."
He looked at her for a second. Then he laughed, tired and real, and something in his chest that had been braced since the first wave finally let go.
"Yeah," he said. "You probably will."
