Chapter 69: Black Wind Robbery Group

Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Black Wind Robbery Group

Counting the six from this battle, that made twelve people.

For a raiding group of just over forty people, losing more than ten was a devastating, almost crippling blow.

After such a massive hit, even if the Black Wind Raiding Group didn’t disband on the spot, they would most likely need a long time to recover. In the short term, they probably wouldn’t pose any significant threat to their shelter.

Besides, raiding groups usually didn’t bother small exploration teams like theirs. After all, to the average person, a team like theirs looked more like a Scavenger Team.

Bena and Zhou Mei exchanged a look, and both saw the relief in each other’s eyes.

If the Black Wind Robbery Group had truly suffered such a heavy blow, then they wouldn’t have to worry about the organization posing a threat to them for the time being.

"Good. Python, the information you’ve provided is very helpful to us."

Bena’s tone softened slightly.

"Now, I need you to tell me your purpose for coming here. Did you come specifically to hunt that Mutated Brown Bear?"

Python hesitated for a moment, but under Bena’s sharp gaze, he chose to cooperate.

"We didn’t know there was a Mutated Brown Bear here. We were ambushed while we were resting."

"The reason we came to this area is that we received reliable information."

"There’s an abandoned shelter nearby, and it’s said to contain some robots made before the Cataclysm."

"You should know how valuable those robots are if they’re well-preserved. That’s why we came all the way out here to search for it."

"But we’ve been searching for a long time and still haven’t found the abandoned shelter."

Since Zhou Mei had just joined the shelter, she naturally didn’t know anything about an abandoned shelter.

But Bena, on the other hand, had just left an abandoned shelter a few days ago.

He thought about the few robot wrecks he had collected from that shelter.

’Could the shelter we searched before be the one Python is talking about?’ a thought struck him.

He immediately took out a simple map from his backpack.

The map showed their marked route and some important landmarks, including the location of the abandoned shelter, the spot where they fought the mutated gray wolves, and the place where they found the three off-road motorcycles.

He took out a marker and made a dot on the location of this abandoned small community.

Bena extended a finger, tracing lines between the different marks.

The latter three marks seemed to vaguely circle the area around the abandoned shelter.

’Sure enough, it’s highly likely they’re looking for that exact shelter.’

’But I already beat them to it. Even if they find the place now, they’ll probably come up empty-handed.’

Bena breathed a sigh of relief internally. He continued the interrogation for a while longer, and once he was sure he couldn’t get any more information, Bena showed no mercy and finished Python off.

When it came to enemies, Bena never showed the slightest hesitation.

In the wasteland, any mercy or soft-heartedness would only lead to endless trouble for yourself.

Zhou Mei, of course, did not try to stop Bena. She also understood that what he did was right.

In the wasteland, being merciful to your enemies is being cruel to yourself.

She took a deep breath, suppressed her emotions, and looked at Bena.

"What should we do now?"

Bena thought for a moment.

"Let’s clean up the battlefield, then we’ll leave."

"He said they were searching separately, but you can’t fully trust a word people like him say."

"Go search the area. We found their modified motorcycles on the battlefield before, so they should have some parked around here too."

"If we can find the motorcycles, we can haul the entire Mutated Brown Bear carcass back."

"If not, we’ll just have to take the most important parts."

Zhou Mei nodded without another word. The five of them immediately sprang into action.

Just as Bena predicted, members of the Black Wind Robbery Group had hidden three identical modified motorcycles nearby.

The motorcycles were stashed in the forest next to the community, specially concealed with camouflage tarps and dead leaves.

Under normal circumstances, they would be almost impossible to find. After all, not even scavengers would bother rummaging through a godforsaken forest like this.

However, with their previous experience in confiscating motorcycles, combined with the tracks the raiders had left behind, they found them easily after a bit of searching.

With the off-road motorcycles, things became much simpler.

The three bionic humans immediately rode the motorcycles back to the Mutated Brown Bear’s corpse.

Bena and Zhou Mei had already hastily butchered the Mutated Brown Bear’s body into dozens of pieces, large and small.

They packed up the Mutated Brown Bear’s remains and stripped the raiders’ bodies of anything useful.

The useless scraps of the Mutated Brown Bear and the human corpses were piled together.

Bena opened a Molotov cocktail and poured the fuel over the bodies.

As Bena tossed the lit cloth onto the pile, flames quickly spread across the corpses.

The thick viscosity of the fuel, along with the fat on the bodies, made the fire burn even more intensely, and it soon completely engulfed the pile.

Neither Bena nor Zhou Mei gave the burning bodies a second glance. When it came to enemies, they never showed the slightest hesitation.

In the wasteland, any mercy or soft-heartedness would only lead to endless trouble for yourself.

The fire was still blazing, but Bena and Zhou Mei had already mounted their motorcycles and were leading the three bionic humans away at high speed.

They didn’t head directly back to the shelter. Instead, they made a wide loop around the area to ensure they weren’t being followed before finally turning in the direction of their shelter.

The shelter’s location had to be kept secret. Any risk that might expose it had to be eliminated.

Once they were sure it was safe, their speed shot up. The three motorcycles tore across the desolate wasteland, kicking up trails of dust.

...

Looking at this latest haul, Ye Yun was pleasantly surprised.

[Crude Off-road Motorcycle (Green)]

...

He had picked up three of these things last time, and now, unexpectedly, another three had arrived.

’To be honest, I actually considered letting them take the motorcycles out for this expedition,’ he thought.

’But with only three motorcycles, it would be a pain to replace them if they got damaged.’

’Besides, this was Zhou Mei’s first mission, and I didn’t want the team to venture too far.’

’But now, things are different.’

’With six motorcycles, we can afford to lose one or two and still have replacements. With these bikes, their exploration range will increase, and they’ll be able to gather more supplies.’
