  1. Hints and Medication

After planning everything out, Lin Ye sent Su Yue a message and then left the dorm.

He told Su Yue about what was happening outside. A student would help lure Teacher Wang away, and he would take the medication while she was distracted.

The plan went smoothly. Before she turned into a spider monster, Teacher Wang was still a competent Infirmary teacher.

Lin Ye took the pills out of the Infirmary, found a corner, and swallowed them.

Once outside, Lin Ye used his previous method to deal with the main body of the Fleshy Monsters, then took over its body.

This time, he didn’t wake any of the survivors. He still needed some students inside to help.

Lin Ye soon found the base’s Infirmary. Unlike the other places, its interior had been preserved just as it was. The smell of disinfectant hung in the air, and the floor was spotless and tidy.

‘Looks like my guess was right.’

Lin Ye opened the medicine cabinet. It contained mostly ordinary medication, but one type was exactly the same as the pill that could let people leave the world of consciousness.

It was a central nervous system stimulant that could make a person enter a state of wakefulness.

Lin Ye closed the Infirmary’s door, lay down on the treatment bed, and put the sleeping pills he had found in the medicine cabinet into his mouth.

Only a few seconds passed before Lin Ye fell into a dream.

…………………………………

Lin Ye sat up in the hospital bed. This was a patient room he knew very well, and a young girl was lying in the bed beside his.

“...You haven’t turned into Teacher Wang, have you?”

Lin Ye hesitated for a moment before speaking.

“This is your Dream World. I sensed you’d run into trouble, so I pulled you here. But this is only temporary. You’ll be going back soon.”

The young girl peeled a fruit shaped like the Moon.

“You can help me?”

Lin Ye felt incredibly heavy. It seemed he couldn’t leave the area around the bed.

“I can’t help you. That place is beyond my influence. If this dream weren’t connected to you in some way, I wouldn’t even have been able to pull you here... But I can give you a hint.”

The young girl leaned against the hospital bed, looking somewhat tired.

“What hint?”

Lin Ye did need a hint right now.

“Before going back there, perhaps you could try some other medication, like... this.”

As soon as the young girl finished speaking, the patient room blurred, and Lin Ye soon lost consciousness.

When Lin Ye woke up, he was still lying on the Infirmary’s treatment bed, with the smell of disinfectant hanging in the air.

“You’re awake? How are you feeling?”

Teacher Wang pulled back the curtain and poked her head in.

“...My head hurts a little. Can I rest here for a while?”

Lin Ye looked at the Infirmary teacher before him, the one who could even chase him to the Moon, and managed a somewhat strained smile.

“Of course.”

Teacher Wang pulled her head back and drew the curtain closed.

Lin Ye took out his phone and sent Su Yue a message.

Before long, a student entered the Infirmary and called Teacher Wang away.

Seizing the opportunity, Lin Ye went to the medicine cabinet and took a pill. He returned to the bed and swallowed it.

Soon, Lin Ye was outside again, still lying in the Infirmary bed.

‘This place... it’s Ward 419. That might be the medication’s coordinates in the cabinet, its length, width, and height...’

Lin Ye went to the medicine cabinet. Using the proportions, he quickly worked out several possible coordinate points.

After ruling out the spots without any medication, Lin Ye found a hallucinogenic drug.

He opened the instructions. This wasn’t any ordinary medication he had seen before. It was a drug specially developed by the organization, and it was related to abnormal incidents.

‘Using hallucinations to fight hallucinations. Which big shot came up with this drug? And why does it have so many side effects?’

Only the organization could get a drug like this approved. Lin Ye looked at the entire page of side effects and contraindications. It was the first time he’d ever seen a medication insert this thick.

Though the drug was dangerous, he still had to take it. He had only one brain left, so things couldn’t get much worse.

Lin Ye took out a syringe and injected the liquid into his vein. He had barely pushed the plunger halfway when the scene before his eyes began to twist and warp.

‘Uh... Is this really meant for normal people?’

Lin Ye collapsed onto the bed. The pure white ceiling began to spin, and before long, he lost consciousness again.

…………………………………

“Wake up. You need to go back.”

Lin Ye opened his eyes in a daze. A splitting headache made his temples throb, and the blinding white glow made it worse.

“...Where am I? I...”

“You’re a researcher for the organization. You’re receiving treatment in the Infirmary. Now you need to go back and rest.”

A cool, impassive face appeared at the edge of Lin Ye’s field of vision. He vaguely recognized it, but couldn’t remember any details.

“Teacher... Wang?”

“I’m not Teacher Wang. I’m the base’s medical director. You need to leave.”

The medical director looked at Lin Ye with some displeasure. It was obvious she didn’t like being called that.

“...I understand.”

Lin Ye still hadn’t figured out what was going on, but the headache had eased a little.

“Here are some painkillers. If you still feel unwell after you get back, take two to ease the symptoms.”

The medical director handed Lin Ye a bottle of white pills.

“Okay, thank you.”

Lin Ye left the Infirmary with the bottle of pills. Outside was a sealed Metal Corridor, and he didn’t know which way to go.

After hesitating, Lin Ye didn’t go back to ask the medical director. He had a vague feeling that doing so would be extremely dangerous.

‘I’ll try the left side first.’

Lin Ye headed down the corridor. He glanced at his badge, which had no name or photo, only a long string of colored barcodes.

There were many surveillance cameras in the corridor. As Lin Ye passed, they slowly turned, seemingly verifying his identity.

Every so often, researchers dressed in the same clothes passed through the corridor. By observing their routes and expressions, Lin Ye roughly worked out where he was supposed to go.

Instead of following the researchers, he made his way to a place that was probably a dorm.

The dorm was huge. Lin Ye sat in the communal Rest Area for a while and finished a cup of coffee before using the pattern in the code on his badge to find his room.

It was a single room measuring a full fifty square meters, with all kinds of facilities and amenities. The accommodations seemed quite good.

Lin Ye began sorting through his personal belongings and soon learned a little about “himself.”

But there was nothing related to research in the room, so he couldn’t determine what his job or circumstances were.

‘So what’s going on now? Is this amnesia temporary?’

Lin Ye leaned against the bed, thinking about what to do next.

Just then, a piercing alarm suddenly sounded outside.
