Global Survival: I Got the D-Rank Personnel Simulator
Chapter 932 Shelter
- Shelter
A pleasant sea breeze blew past. Lin Ye closed his eyes and sensed his surroundings.
This was a small island, only a few thousand square meters in size. In its center stood a cluster of buildings resembling a resort.
There were several similar islands nearby. This place seemed to be a tourist destination.
However, Lin Ye sensed no humans, and there were barely any animals, either.
“I knew something was wrong here.”
Lin Ye spread out his Parasitism Network. First, he needed to figure out what was going on.
As the Parasitism Network continued to expand, his range of perception grew. Before long, he sensed a deep-sea fortress on the seabed.
At least ten thousand humans were hiding inside. Since the fortress was surrounded by several layers of protective measures, Lin Ye couldn’t determine exactly what was happening within without destroying them.
Not far from the island lay a continent, where there were many similar shelters. They varied in size, and each housed a different number of survivors.
But Lin Ye hadn’t found anything wrong with this place.
“It seems to be related to some kind of virus. Those survivors are afraid of a virus called the ‘Death Plague,’ but I haven’t collected any information about it.”
Little Guardian appeared beside the lounge chair. She could gather information about the area through the Parasitism Network.
“...I haven’t sensed that virus. Have you found anything?”
Lin Ye set up a Spiritual Energy Mental Energy Mixed Protective Field, then carefully sensed his surroundings. But he didn’t detect anything related to a virus.
“No. Perhaps it’s because your constitution is different from theirs. I recommend that you avoid contact with them.”
Little Guardian hadn’t sensed the so-called virus, either.
“Fine by me. There’s no one here, anyway. This morning’s simulation mission was too much trouble, so I can take a break here.”
Lin Ye couldn’t be bothered with that virus. If this place really was dangerous, he’d set up a portal and get out of there.
After all, he’d brought the Escape Artist title this time. When it came to making a getaway, he was a professional.
“The deep-sea fortress below seems to have noticed you. It’s sent an armed squad this way. Should I deal with them?”
Little Guardian suddenly spoke up.
“Just make sure they can’t get here. I don’t want any contact with them.”
Lin Ye didn’t want to catch some strange virus from this place.
“Okay.”
Little Guardian controlled the parasitic organisms and destroyed the armed squad’s vehicles.
Lin Ye took a can of iced cola out of his spatial item, then closed his eyes and began sorting through the abnormal spiritual imprints he had sealed inside the Spiritual Parasites.
These abnormal spiritual imprints were incredibly chaotic. Even Lin Ye needed time to organize them, bit by bit.
While processing the abnormal spiritual imprints, Lin Ye would also make some parasitic organisms and spiritual energy items. This method let him quickly grasp the nature of the abnormal spiritual imprints.
One parasitic organism after another appeared near the lounge chair. They made strange cries and used abilities derived from the abnormal spiritual imprints.
There was no one else around, so he could conduct whatever experiments he wanted.
The abilities produced by these abnormal spiritual imprints could be incorporated into the mental network and become part of the system panel.
Lin Ye happily conducted all kinds of experiments. If no one came to bother him, he could head back to sleep after a little while.
But the system’s Exploration Mission was never going to be that easy. Lin Ye had only been resting for a little over ten minutes when he sensed a faint spatial fluctuation nearby.
A spatial rift appeared on the beach, and a man covered in wounds crawled out of it.
“Ugh, I knew it wouldn’t be that simple.”
Lin Ye didn’t attack the man. He hadn’t come here of his own accord. Lin Ye disliked being disturbed, but he wasn’t about to kill him outright.
“Cough, cough... Where is this...?”
Kurt climbed to his feet on the beach. A pure-white penguin appeared in front of him.
“Coo-coo, quack-quack.”
The penguin spread its wings and let out a strange cry.
“...Coo-coo, quack-quack?”
Kurt looked around. There wasn’t another person on the beach, just this strange penguin.
“...Foolish human, I am the God of Penguins. Offer me some delicious fish, and I shall grant you supreme power.”
Seeing the foolish look on Kurt’s face, the penguin gave up on its previous, more sophisticated method of communication.
“Fish? What are you, exactly?”
Kurt warily took a step back. It was the first time he had encountered something so far beyond common sense in the real world.
“I’m the God of Penguins, you idiot.”
The penguin shot Kurt a sidelong glance, then went to paddle around in the seawater.
It had the right to log off, too. This idiot clearly wasn’t up to the task.
Only after the penguin jumped into the sea did Kurt let out a breath of relief. Here, he was just an ordinary person. One bullet would be enough to take him out.
But before he could relax, a jellyfish with eyeballs covering its top drifted over.
The Eyeball Jellyfish bobbed beside him a few times, then floated toward the sea. It didn’t like talking to idiots, either.
‘What the hell is going on? Have I caught the Death Plague?’
Kurt wanted to get away from these strange creatures, but he didn’t know where to go.
This was an island. He couldn’t exactly swim all the way back to the shelter.
“Should I take control of him?”
Little Guardian sat beside the lounge chair, directing the Parasitism Network to expand farther out.
The spiritual energy concentration on this Plane was average, so the Parasitism Network could only maintain its basic functions.
“No need. I don’t want to interact with the humans here. If anything comes up, the parasitic organisms can handle it.”
Lin Ye didn’t think Kurt had ended up on this island by chance. Someone must have wanted him to come here.
It was a test, or perhaps some kind of attack. Lin Ye still hadn’t figured out what was happening here, so he couldn’t act carelessly.
“Okay.”
Little Guardian continued to direct the Parasitism Network as it expanded. Once it covered the entire world, she would be able to gather much more information through it.
“God of Penguins, can you send me back?”
Kurt walked around the island. He realized these strange creatures didn’t seem aggressive and weren’t as frightening as they looked.
“Of course not. I’m the God of Penguins, not a taxi driver.”
The penguin continued gliding across the water. It had already found a suitable person to log off into. Kurt was no longer useful.
The other parasitic organisms had also found satisfactory people to log off into through distant parasitic nodes.
Kurt could clearly sense the strange creatures had grown much more indifferent. They no longer circled around him.
“...So that’s what’s going on. No wonder I couldn’t sense anything.”
Through those new parasitic nodes, Lin Ye had finally figured out what was happening here.
