Chapter 933 Entering the Death Zone
- Entering the Death Zone
“Good thing I didn’t make contact with them... Though it doesn’t seem to make much difference.”
The Death Plague is a mental infectious disease that can spread through communication.
As long as you know about the concept of the Death Plague, you’ll be affected by it.
After being infected with the Death Plague, a host will come into contact with a place known as the Death Zone. The level of infection determines how deeply they enter the Death Zone.
The survivors here divided the Death Zone into a shallow layer and a deep layer. They believed that only survivors who entered the deep layer of the Death Zone could be considered infected with the Death Plague.
Lin Ye could understand their way of thinking. After all, this was a mental infectious disease, and a person’s mental state had a significant impact on it.
‘The Death Zone... seems to be the product of some kind of fusion between the mental world and the material world. This disease is more like some kind of mental guidance.’
As Lin Ye’s understanding of the Death Zone deepened, he gradually became able to sense the area known as the Death Zone.
Before he understood the concept, even if the Death Zone appeared right in front of him, he wouldn’t be able to sense anything at all.
“I can temporarily seal away the information about the Death Plague and the Death Zone. That way, you won’t be affected.”
Dealing with mental influences was precisely Little Guardian’s specialty.
“No need for now. I want to study this mental infectious disease.”
Lin Ye created an Alienated Body and appeared in front of Kurt.
“Hello.”
“...Who are you?”
Kurt hadn’t expected there to be any living people here.
“I’m Lin Ye. I can take you back.”
Lin Ye answered very directly.
“What do I have to give up in return?”
Kurt didn’t think this would be free.
“Someone brought you to my place, and it caused me some trouble. I want to go over there and deal with this.”
The other party had deliberately spread the Death Plague near Lin Ye. Their actions were full of malice.
“...So that’s why I was thrown here?”
Only now did Kurt realize what had happened.
“That’s right.”
Lin Ye had actually already found the other party’s location, but a large expanse of the Death Zone covered the area. The other party might be hiding inside it.
He still didn’t know enough about the Death Zone, so he needed to proceed cautiously.
“I understand. I’ll take you there.”
Those people had destroyed Kurt’s Shelter. Of course he wanted to kill every last one of them.
“Good.”
Lin Ye tore open the spatial rift from before. Although he didn’t understand much about space, maintaining a spatial rift wasn’t difficult.
Kurt led the way, with Lin Ye following behind him as they passed through the spatial rift.
The moment they came through, they received a warm welcome.
An armed squad was hiding near the spatial rift. They emptied their magazines at the two of them.
Of course, Lin Ye wasn’t going to be hit by weapons like these. A layer of spiritual energy shield blocked every bullet. He had wanted to turn these survivors into part of the Parasitism Network, but he discovered a certain mental imprint on their Consciousnesses.
This mental imprint resisted mental influences.
If Lin Ye forcibly transformed them, all he would end up with was a few drooling idiots.
This was probably one of the effects of the Death Plague.
Lin Ye could only deal with the combat squad in a more direct way.
“...What is this?”
Kurt looked at the armed squad in front of him, now transformed into cubes. He felt as though the world had grown even crazier.
“This is standard-form flesh material. It’s easier to store and process this way.”
Lin Ye didn’t waste his enemies’ corpses. He usually turned them into part of the Parasitism Network.
“How did you do that?”
Kurt wanted to learn this technique too.
“It’s simple. I can give you a basic system panel. Too bad you didn’t form an agreement with the creatures on the island. Otherwise, you could have gotten a more advanced system panel.”
Lin Ye had originally wanted Kurt to try out some of the new abilities, but Kurt had managed to avoid every parasitic organism through the sheer inadequacy of his own talent.
“Were those strange creatures all made by you?”
Kurt had a vague feeling that he’d missed out on something.
“That’s right. They’re all experimental creatures.”
Lin Ye led the way. He knew where the armed squad had come from: the Surface Layer of the Death Zone, not far away.
“Can the abilities on this panel be used normally inside the Death Zone?”
Kurt stared at the basic system panel, somewhat dazed. It had given him hope that he might escape the Death Zone.
“I don’t know. I haven’t entered the Death Zone before. If there’s no spiritual energy inside, they won’t work normally.”
Lin Ye soon reached the edge of the Death Zone. It was an area of ruined buildings. The Parasitism Network couldn’t gather information from inside the Death Zone unless a parasitic node entered it.
“I’ve only been in here a few times myself. I only know what the outer area is like. Is that going to be a problem?”
If he could help it, Kurt didn’t want to enter such a dangerous Death Zone.
“No problem. I just want to take a look inside.”
After all, this was only an Alienated Body. If things got troublesome inside, Lin Ye could abandon it at any time.
“Then follow me. I know a relatively safe entrance.”
Kurt led Lin Ye in a wide circle through the ruins before stepping into the Surface Layer of the Death Zone.
Lin Ye followed behind Kurt, finally entering the Death Zone.
They only had to take one step forward before a scene completely different from the outside appeared before them. It was an area made up of countless pipelines, and right in front of them was the entrance to a particularly large one.
This was the safe entrance Kurt had mentioned.
“This is the Death Zone?”
Lin Ye sensed his surroundings, but the mental energy originating from his mental network had been cut off. Now, he could only act using the mental energy stored inside this Alienated Body.
That mental energy was just enough to barely sustain his consciousness. This place was even more dangerous than he’d expected.
“Are you all right? If you can’t handle it, we can leave for now.”
Kurt noticed Lin Ye’s condition. Just as he was about to retreat, he saw an armed squad enter the Death Zone behind them, blocking their way back.
“I’m fine. This is only an Alienated Body. Even if it dies, it won’t affect me at all. You should be thinking about whether you can survive.”
Lin Ye wanted to deal with the armed squad behind them, but the spiritual energy here was difficult to control. Even a simple action would consume a large amount of mental energy.
“...Then I’m leaving first.”
Kurt hurriedly turned and ran into the pipeline. He didn’t want to be shot to death in a hail of bullets.
Lin Ye didn’t run. The armed squad had already raised their weapons. Turning around now would leave his back exposed to their attacks.
“Sir, would you please come with us?”
The armed squad’s captain aimed at Lin Ye’s head and spoke.
“Sure, but I need to go outside and get something first.”
Lin Ye slowly approached the armed squad. Of course he would go with them, but he would have to do it another way.
