  1. Giant Pipeline

After taking only two shots, Lin Ye eliminated the armed squad.

The Death Zone severely restricted his Alienated Body. Right now, he was little more than an ordinary person with a relatively strong constitution.

This might have something to do with the mental influence. The locals’ Consciousnesses had all been affected by the Death Zone. Lin Ye’s mental energy was powerful enough to resist that influence, so the Death Zone targeted him whenever he was inside it.

Lin Ye picked up the firearms from the corpses. Just as he was about to go out and upload the information about this place to the Parasitism Network, he saw a group of Armed Personnel enter the Death Zone.

“Quite a lot of them…”

Lin Ye turned and ran. He had just taken two shots. They hadn’t hit anything vital, but they still hurt, and these people were clearly tougher to deal with than the previous armed squad.

It wouldn’t matter if his Alienated Body died here, but naturally, it was better if he could avoid dying.

As soon as Lin Ye rushed into the pipeline, a dense volley of gunfire rang out behind him.

The Armed Personnel chased after him, apparently with no intention of letting him go.

This Death Zone was an area made up of all kinds of pipelines. Some of them were connected by suspended platforms. Beyond those platforms, there was nothing, and below them lay a tangled mass of pipelines.

Some pipelines contained glowing stones embedded in their inner walls, making the stones part of the pipelines themselves.

Lin Ye didn’t run through the pipelines for long. Instead, he leaped off a platform and landed on top of the pipeline below, then kept making his way downward.

The pipelines varied in size and material. Some were unstable, like floating bridges that could sink at any moment.

‘Should’ve had that penguin come over.’

Lin Ye struggled to control his Alienated Body. The deeper he went into the Death Zone, the stronger its suppressive effect became.

He had left his pursuers far behind. Those people wouldn’t dare leap from pipeline to pipeline the way he did.

Lin Ye landed on a narrow platform. Kurt was nowhere to be seen, and Lin Ye had no idea where the enemies were hiding in the Death Zone.

‘Whatever. I’ll head down and take a look. If things get bad, I can always abandon this Alienated Body.’

The platform connected to three pipelines. Complex structures stretched in every direction, and the edge of the area was nowhere in sight.

Lin Ye picked a pipeline at random and went inside. Far away, he saw a gigantic silhouette and decided to take a look over there first.

Because the pipelines were made of different materials, their surfaces varied in smoothness. Some were especially slick, allowing Lin Ye to slide straight through them.

He tried to choose pipelines he could slide through, since that took less effort.

However, he had to watch what lay below while sliding. Some pipelines had nothing beneath them.

After sliding for a while, Lin Ye drew close to the gigantic silhouette. Up close, he saw that it was a huge pipeline more than ten meters in diameter.

One side of the pipeline was blocked by an obstacle. In a corner beside it was a small gray metal door.

Lin Ye slid onto a platform beside the Giant Pipeline, walked up to the metal door, and knocked twice.

There was no response from inside. Lin Ye opened the door, and a rotten stench poured out.

The inside of the pipeline was pitch-black. Lin Ye couldn’t tell what was in there, but judging by the stench, there had to be at least several hundred corpses inside.

‘Is this where they dispose of bodies? I really don’t want to go in…’

Just as Lin Ye was about to turn and leave, he heard a faint sound.

‘Huh? Is there still someone alive in there?’

Lin Ye went into the pipeline and made his way through the rotting corpses. The interior was crammed full of bodies, leaving nowhere to set foot.

The sound from earlier had vanished, too. There was no way Lin Ye could find whoever had made it in a place like this.

“Help…”

Lin Ye was about to turn and leave when a weak cry for help came from nearby.

“Oh? There really is someone alive.”

Lin Ye found the source of the sound and dragged a kid who looked to be around ten years old out of a pile of corpses.

The kid was covered in festering wounds. Without immediate treatment, he probably wouldn’t survive the night.

“You’re in luck.”

Lin Ye took the kid and walked out of the Giant Pipeline. As soon as he opened the metal door, he spotted an old man standing on the platform outside, watching him.

“…Maybe not so lucky after all.”

Lin Ye threw the kid back into the Giant Pipeline. Since the old man had managed to show up here, Lin Ye probably wasn’t getting away.

“Can I ask…”

Before the old man could finish speaking, Lin Ye blew off half his head.

Most of the flesh of Lin Ye’s Alienated Body had burned away before he managed to use Red Flash here.

Unfortunately, he was still a little too slow, and the old man on the other side dodged the direct hit.

“Go ask your mother.”

Lin Ye used the mental energy and alienated flesh he had left to make a system panel and gave it to the little thing inside who was close to dying. He didn’t know whether the kid would survive. Luck was just that unreliable. At the crucial moment, people could ultimately only rely on themselves.

……………………………………

“Is something wrong?”

Little Guardian glanced at Lin Ye, who was lost in thought on the lounge chair beside her.

“Nothing. My Alienated Body was taken out.”

Lin Ye received the spiritual imprint from over there.

“I’ve already sent those new parasitic nodes to explore the deep layer of the Death Zone. The parasitic nodes from this Plane can weaken the Death Zone’s effect on parasitic organisms. Should I call a few people over?”

Little Guardian was using the Parasitism Network to study the Death Zone. Death Zones were everywhere across this Plane, and most Shelters had been built on the Surface Layer of one.

Because of the Death Zone’s influence, Lin Ye couldn’t forcibly transform the people of this Plane into parasitic nodes. But if someone volunteered to become one, that was another matter.

The parasitic organisms Lin Ye had created had all found their superiors. Those superiors had accepted system panels and become part of the Parasitism Network.

“No need. I have a better option.”

Lin Ye used abnormal spiritual imprints to create a group of parasitic penguins. He planned to use them to deal with the problem over there.

The white penguin paddling around curiously looked at its new companions, but didn’t come any closer. Paddling around was much easier than risking its life in the Death Zone.

Lin Ye merged his mental energy into one of the penguins, then led his penguin squad through the spatial rift and quickly slid toward the Death Zone.

These penguins had been created through Alienation using biological materials from this Plane, which would weaken the Death Zone’s influence on them. They were also skilled at sliding, so they could help Lin Ye survey the pipeline region’s terrain and locate the other Shelter.

After entering the Death Zone, the penguin squad split up and slid through the pipelines, while Lin Ye headed alone toward the Giant Pipeline from before.
