Global Survival: I Have Endless Skeletons
Chapter 606: The Unexpected Reunion.
For a moment, neither Arin nor Fidelia moved.
The smoke drifting across the battlefield slowly thinned, revealing the figure standing at the edge of the ruined military ground.
Fidelia’s eyes widened and her lips parted slightly.
She stared at the familiar silver hair, the calm deep blue eyes, and the unmistakable presence that she had not expected to feel again so soon.
"Thoren?"Her voice was barely audible at first.
Then her expression changed.
"Thoren!"
The moment she screamed his name, Fidelia rushed forward. She moved so quickly that several nearby soldiers barely saw her leave her position.
A few of them instinctively raised their weapons before realizing that she was not attacking anyone. As for Arin, he simply stood, watching with his mouth ajar.
As for Thoren, he was equally stunned. He had not expected to meet Arin and Fidelia on the surface.
More importantly, he had never expected to encounter them in the middle of such a chaotic situation.
He had not expected to find two familiar faces inside the Muster Ground. Before he could even wrap his head around what was happening, Fidelia had already reached him.
She threw her arms around him and pulled him into a tight, warm hug. Thoren’s body stiffened for a brief moment from the suddenness of the embrace.
Fidelia pressed herself tightly against his chest, her arms wrapped firmly around him as though she was afraid that if she loosened her grip, he might disappear again.
Her familiar scent reached his nose, and the warmth of her body against his chest immediately reminded him of the time they had spent together in the Abyss.
Thoren’s breathing quickened for a moment as he had not expected such a reaction.
Taking a slow breath, he forced himself to calm his suddenly erratic thoughts before it went out of hand. As for Fidelia, she did not seem to notice.
She simply held him tightly.
For someone who had just fought through an entire battlefield without hesitation, the woman in his arms now seemed completely different.
"I miss you..." Her voice became soft as she whispered to his ears.
Instantly, Thoren’s expression softened. She might not have spent a particularly long time with him, but the short period they had shared in the Abyss had left her with memories that she could not easily forget.
She had thought about him more than once after leaving the Abyss.
She had wondered where he was.
Whether he was still alive.
Whether he had managed to survive the second floor.
And now, after all that uncertainty, he was standing directly in front of her.
Alive.
Thoren slowly raised his hand and wrapped it around her back.
"I miss you too." His voice was quiet.
Sometimes, Thoren missed Ophelia, the money grubber and her constant nagging. Her endless complaints whenever he was not giving her enough money.
More importantly, however, he missed Fidelia’s cooking.
There were few things that could compare to eating a proper meal after spending days surrounded by death and danger.
And Fidelia had always been surprisingly good at making even simple food taste satisfying.
He had not expected to see her again so soon. The chances of their paths crossing on the surface had been incredibly slim.
After leaving the first floor, Thoren had expected everyone he knew there to continue along their own paths.
Yet here they were, standing in the middle of a battlefield.
Thoren looked down slightly at Fidelia. For a brief moment, everything around them seemed strangely distant.
Even the four Generals who had surrendered remained silent. Everyone was staring at the two people standing at the edge of the battlefield.
The soldiers of the Federation were completely stunned. Some had their mouths slightly open.
Others looked at one another as though trying to understand what they were witnessing.
One of the two terrifying awakeners who had slaughtered an entire group of soldiers moments earlier were now standing there hugging a young man.
The four defeated Generals, however, had a completely different reaction. Their faces became bitter and their eyes were filled with hatred.
The moment they recognized Thoren, their expressions became even uglier.
They had already lost.
They had been completely defeated by Arin and Fidelia, and their soldiers had been slaughtered before their eyes.
But seeing Thoren standing together with Fidelia made the situation even more unbearable.
One of the Generals clenched his teeth.
’That bastard...’
Another lowered his head slightly, his expression filled with bitterness. ’That bitch. If not because of the two of them, we wouldn’t be in this situation.’
The four Generals silently gritted their teeth. Yet after several seconds, the anger slowly drained from their expressions.
One of them released a heavy sigh as there was no point in being angry anymore.
They had been captured.
And the appearance of Thoren had only confirmed that their situation was even worse than they had initially thought.
And thus, their fate had been sealed.
Meanwhile, Fidelia remained in Thoren’s arms for another few moments before a figure suddenly cleared his throat.
"Hmm!" "Hmm."
Listening to the sound, Fidelia immediately stiffened and her eyes widened. She realized that everyone around them had been watching.
Slowly, her face turned red.
She quickly released Thoren and stepped backward, trying to regain her usual composure, but the flush spreading across her face betrayed her embarrassment.
Thoren, however, showed almost no change in expression. He simply looked toward Arin with a faint smile.
Arin stood several meters away with his arms crossed, an amused expression on his face.
Fidelia glared at him and he raised both hands slightly.
"What?"
Fidelia’s face became even redder and Thoren could not help but smile.
The atmosphere that had been heavy with blood and death moments earlier suddenly became slightly lighter.
Arin finally stepped forward with a soften expreession as he looked at Thoren.
"I know you’re a monster, but I never thought you would clear the second floor while we’re still battling the first floor."
There was obvious disbelief in his voice, but there was also genuine happiness behind the joke.
He shook his head before walked toward Thoren. The two men looked at each other for a brief moment.
Then Arin opened his arms for a warm hug.
