Chapter 1068 - 65
Chapter 1068: Chapter 65
On the other hand, Murong Qing spent the entire morning shopping with Zhou Jiaying. Speaking of shopping, women clearly have a talent superior to men in this area; even those built of iron can’t endure this intense activity for long without feeling tired. Only women can.
By noon, Murong Qing couldn’t wait to grab the takeout and rush off. Before she left, Zhou Jiaying noticed that Murong Qing was obviously delivering food to someone, but to whom remained a mystery. If it were a woman, it would be unlikely; the person making Miss Murong so eager was surely a man.
After arriving at Tianheng Company, Murong Qing checked the time; it wasn’t yet noon, which meant Go Biqing probably hadn’t had lunch.
Go Biqing hadn’t expected Murong Qing to be so keen on delivering lunch to him, but his worry came true. Although this was a dream come true for many, it’s certainly not what Go Biqing wanted right now.
Looking at the steaming dishes, it wasn’t like Go Biqing could ask her to take them away, so he politely said, "Murong Qing, there’s no need for this. You’re busy yourself, and frequently delivering lunch might not be good. If your boyfriend sees it, he might misunderstand."
Go Biqing hit the nail on the head; the first part might not mean much, but the latter part implied their relationship seemed more than just ordinary friends.
Murong Qing wasn’t foolish, so she promptly replied, "I don’t have a boyfriend. I’d actually like someone to misunderstand, but someone is just a foolish goose."
This was the first time Go Biqing felt reluctant to meet her gaze. He was afraid of seeing the one expression he dreaded the most. A few months ago, he might have taken the chance with Murong Qing since he was well-off, and Zhou Jiaying was out of reach. But now, he had nothing, and Zhou Jiaying’s return stirred ripples in his heart. Her long-buried image resurfaced, and even though he chose to let go, he couldn’t quite put her out of his mind. When idle, her smile and gestures often popped up in his thoughts, accompanied by a yearning to meet her, but he forcibly suppressed those urges.
Given such circumstances, Go Biqing couldn’t readily accept Murong Qing’s feelings. Not only would it be unfair to her, but he couldn’t pass the test of his conscience.
When Murong Qing noticed Go Biqing hesitated in meeting her gaze, she felt a hint of joy, thinking he had discovered something.
Silently, the two ate lunch. With no other place to sit, Go Biqing fetched a clothing box and opened the cotton quilt on the bed to set the dishes down.
But how big could the clothing box be? Go Biqing dared not sit on it, so he let Murong Qing take the seat.
Murong Qing started to eat a few bites but noticed Go Biqing squatting beside her. "Come sit up here; I’ll move aside a bit. No problem. Squatting like this isn’t good for your health," she said.
Without lifting his head, Go Biqing replied, "No need. You sit. I can eat just the same squatting."
Murong Qing felt his direct refusal was off; the tone was unusually flat, not like his morning or recent conversations. So she said, "Don’t squat. There’s space. Squatting isn’t good for you."
Unfortunately, Go Biqing simply stood and said, "No big deal, I can eat standing."
This move almost made Murong Qing’s nose crooked with fury; she didn’t expect him to pull such a move, clearly showing he didn’t want close contact with her. From past records, he hadn’t been so conservative, which could only mean he wanted to keep a distance. As a lady from a wealthy family, Murong Qing obviously had her temperament. Previously, Go Biqing acted indifferently toward her, but never really contradicted her. Plus, given her interest in him, she didn’t blow up. This time, his actions truly annoyed her.
Murong Qing wanted to snap at Go Biqing but realized it would be futile, only straining their relationship and tarnishing her image.
Thus, with resolve, she said, "Fine, you stand, I’ll accompany you standing then."
With that, Murong Qing stood up too, leaving Go Biqing at a loss. Who does such things? Seeing Murong Qing awkwardly reaching from standing, Go Biqing’s heart softened. Despite being the one bringing him food, as a lady, she didn’t mind sharing a meal in a humble setting, yet here he was leaving her standing. Murong Qing wasn’t like him; each time she took a small bite, needing her to lean down often. Whether intentional or habitual, she only picked small bites each time.
Ultimately, Go Biqing comforted himself: This was merely to ease her discomfort; it wasn’t anything else.
"Let’s sit together; it’s inconvenient for you to pick food while standing," Go Biqing sighed in resignation.
Seeing Go Biqing sit, Murong Qing promptly scooted beside him. Despite the company’s central heating, Go Biqing sensed the heat radiating from her, seemingly wanting to ignite him.
He subtly shifted a bit to create distance. No matter what, he was a regular guy with a beautiful woman next to him, even if she wasn’t the one in his heart. Now, as their arms brushed with each bite, her scent mingled with the food aroma; knowing she had feelings for him, Go Biqing feared any untoward heart sway.
Perhaps sensing his movement, Murong Qing didn’t back down, subtly closing the gap. Whether intentional or subconscious, neither stopped.
A game of dodge and pursuit ensued, but they couldn’t break the close proximity. Go Biqing realized half his seat was already hanging in the air and had nowhere else to retreat. Murong Qing’s weight seemed to lean more into him; what began as touching now felt like leaning.
In a dilemma, Go Biqing happened to finish his last bite and instinctively stepped aside.
Go Biqing’s movement caught Murong Qing off guard. Initially conscious of the proximity, she gradually grew subconscious. With nowhere to go, Go Biqing allowed her to lean, not daring to mention it. Bringing it up would surely stain Murong Qing’s face with embarrassment, so a brief stint of inaction led Murong Qing to drop her guard.
With her guard down, Murong Qing abruptly lost support, resulting in her tipping sideways. Although Go Biqing hadn’t moved far, barely half a step, he had just stood.
Seeing Murong Qing tip over, Go Biqing instinctively reached to grab her shoulder or arm, just to keep her from falling.
But Go Biqing’s reach fell short, grasping only the fabric at Murong Qing’s shoulder. It seems good people are blessed by God, yet blessed individuals often incur Lady Luck’s wrath.
