Godslayer's Legend
Chapter 1087: When Kings Take the Field
The spear that never missed and the flames released from the great sword of the Fire Giant King collided with an explosive impact, shockwaves of destructive cosmic energy rippling out in every direction through space.
At the same time, the gods who’d survived Surtr’s first attack quickly grabbed the severely wounded ones and rushed out of the area as fast as they could.
The clash between Surtr’s flames and the spear was even at first, but gradually, it began to tilt to one side.
Surtr’s flames slowly but surely began pushing Gungnir back, but just as that started, temporal law energy swirled around Gungnir’s length.
Then suddenly, the spear multiplied into ten, each one carrying the same overwhelming power as the original, and together, the ten of them pushed back against Surtr’s flames.
Noticing this, Surtr pulled his sword back and forcefully detonated the destructive energy within his flames, triggering an explosion of golden light that could be seen entire universes away.
The flames and the power of the multiplied spears completely neutralised one another, leaving behind nothing but ruptured space and distorted time from both attacks.
Surtr wasn’t surprised by this result, and he also wasn’t surprised when the distorted flow of time and the fabric of space gradually began repairing themselves, as if a tape were being rewound.
His enormous body began shrinking, the flames around him dying down enough to reveal his rocky flesh underneath.
The two attacks he’d just unleashed in his True Form Release state had consumed a considerable amount of his power, but despite that expenditure, he didn’t appear particularly exhausted.
|I knew it,| he muttered with a soft exhale. |You were hiding your power, you bastard.|
He casually raised his great sword and placed it upon his shoulder before looking towards the two gods responsible for thwarting his second attack.
|No, both of you bastards.|
The replica Gungnirs had been destroyed in the earlier explosion, leaving only the original, which spun through space and flew back into the hands of its owner, the one-eyed god King of the Asgard Universe.
Not too far behind him was the other elusive god King whose power had caused Odin’s spear to multiply, manifesting versions of the spear from alternate possible timelines into reality.
|You finally decided to come out of your hole, huh, King of the Aedra?|
At Surtr’s words, Alkosh simply shook his head lightly with a faint smile.
|You all have been making so much noise outside,| he said. |Why are you surprised that I decided to join the fray?|
He scoffed after speaking, teleporting beside Odin and addressing him.
|Borson. It’s been a while.|
Odin simply nodded in silence, keeping his eye narrowed on Surtr.
The space surrounding Surtr warped, and several other Giant, Demon, and Devil Kings appeared beside him, their weapons all already held in their hands. The overwhelming law energies they emanated mixed with one another to create an oppressive pressure that quietly distorted the surrounding space.
Amongst them was Utgard-Loki, who cast his gaze around before speaking.
|I was thinking we’d at least get Thor or Heracles with that one. Looks like their daddies came to save the day, huh?|
Harmarti, snorting, raised one of his axes, which had a crack running through its blade.
|I don’t really mind that we didn’t get Heracles. He cracked one of my axes. I won’t be satisfied until I break that club of his.|
Utgard-Loki chuckled at Harmarti’s words, raising his hand and flicking it in the Frost Giant King’s direction. Magic power flowed from his fingers into the axes, and the cracks running through the blades closed up within seconds, restoring the damaged weapons.
While this happened, several other gods and Celestials began appearing around Odin and Alkosh.
god Kings from different universes, alongside famous combatants and powerful demigod fighters who possessed strength and fables comparable to Heracles.
There was one such demigod fighter who attracted a fair number of dark gazes from the Demon Kings, not only because they recognised him, but because of the weapon in his hands.
Surtr also turned towards him, and for the first time, the Fire Giant’s eyes narrowed faintly.
‘That spear…’
His eyes locked onto the pristine white spear hanging on the shoulders of the demigod son of Erin’s god King of Light, a spear that looked so sacred, yet emanated such terrifying cosmic death energy.
‘Cú Chulainn, huh? He’d be a troublesome one to deal with.’
That thought crossed Surtr’s mind as he returned his gaze to Odin, then moved it towards Heracles, who teleported in beside him, still bearing burns from the flames of Ragnarok.
The moment Harmarti saw Heracles, a grin appeared on the blue-skinned giant’s face, and without a word, he threw his axe towards Heracles, the massive weapon enlarging as it spun towards him until it was the size of a planet.
Before the axe could reach Heracles, however, a torrent of pressurised water suddenly appeared and collided with the weapon, pushing it backwards towards Harmarti.
Harmarti raised an eyebrow, then snapped his fingers, powerful magic bursting out from his body and freezing the torrent of water in place. Then, he returned his axe to its normal size and shattered the frozen mass of water into countless fragments, before looking at the one responsible for it.
|Heracles was the only useful person you sent out, so I was starting to think you lot were never gonna show up,| he said with a snort.
|Ha, the main players are finally here,| Utgard-Loki said with a wide grin. Spreading his arms, he performed an exaggerated bow and said, |Welcome, Oh Great Olympians.|
Several Jotuns and Devil Kings laughed at his theatrics, but the Olympian gods simply ignored them.
Poseidon slowly infused more divinity into his trident before casting a glance towards the space beside Odin, which crackled with lightning before Zeus appeared.
There was a tense silence as the Divine Alliance’s strongest Masters and the Infernal Coalition’s top Kings stared at one another, quietly sizing up the opposing side.
Then, Utgard-Loki grinned, raising both his arms as powerful magic power swirled around them.
|We didn’t come here just to stare at each other, did we?| he asked, still wearing his wide grin. |Let’s start trying to kill ourselves already!|
With those words, he unleashed his magic, thousands upon thousands of Nine-Ringed Spell Circles manifesting throughout space.
The circles rotated in different directions as they fired enormous beams, blades, chains, and unstable stars towards the gods and Celestials gathered before him.
Several of those attacks converged upon Thor, forcing the thunder god to raise Mjolnir in preparation to strike back against the incoming barrage.
Before the magic could reach Thor, however, a figure wielding a dull, rainbow-coloured blade suddenly appeared in front of him. They swung the sword wide, the colours of the blade momentarily brightening as it cleaved through Utgard-Loki’s magic, destroying all the attacks aimed at Thor.
Utgard-Loki was momentarily flummoxed by this, not because his magic had been destroyed, but because of who was responsible.
|What are you doing here, Heimdall?| Utgard-Loki asked with a surprised laugh. |Get back to your fucking bridge!|
He unleashed more magic at Thor, who came charging alongside Heimdall with Mjolnir, keeping them at a distance while several other giants from different universes charged ahead to meet them in melee.
Utgard-Loki’s really itching for a fight.
