Godslayer's Legend
Chapter 1086: Flames of Ragnarok [Monthly Bonus 3]
The moment the Infernal Coalition members disappeared, powerful flames erupted from the coordinates in space they’d occupied, and an overwhelming destructive aura flooded the battlefield.
Feeling this familiar heat, Thor’s eyes snapped upward, and he bellowed.
Surtr!
A screeching sound echoed as a ginormous rift in space tore open, a tear over a million light-years wide, revealing a dimension of fire and magma beyond it.
From this rift, the flaming body of the Fire Giant King of Muspelheim emerged, his already ginormous body growing even larger.
Held above with both hands was a bright flaming sword that emanated an aura of death and destruction.
Space across millions upon millions of light-years was illuminated by the radiance of Surtr’s flames, the oppressive light overpowering everything around it.
Flames of Ragnarok.
With that declaration, Surtur swung his great sword down at a speed that dwarfed light, and the moment the blade began its descent, flames erupted from it and spread outward in cascading waves.
|SCATTER!| Thor shouted, trying to warn everyone around him before the attack could reach them.
However, the sound of his voice was far too slow compared with the speed of Surtr’s attack, and more importantly, scattering wouldn’t accomplish much against something with such an enormous range.
Where could they even scatter to when the attack was already consuming everything around them?
They couldn’t move far enough away in time, and the flames distorted space, making every form of escape through teleportation risky, so they might as well stand their ground and block the incoming attack.
The gods present were confident that if they combined their power, they could definitely withstand Surtr’s attack.
Powerful as Surtr was, there were dozens of Monarch Realm Existences present, including renowned Universal Masters like Ra and powerful battle gods like Heracles.
Surely they could block Surtr’s attack, couldn’t they?
But there was a reason why, despite knowing the amount of power gathered amongst the gods, Angels, and Celestials of the Divine Alliance present, Thor’s instinct was still to shout for them to scatter.
It was because he knew secrets about Surtur that the non-Asgardians didn’t know.
It was because he knew that whenever Surtr used any Authority related to ‘Ragnarok’ against an ‘Asgardian’, the power behind that Authority was amplified several times over.
And on this battlefield were dozens of Asgardian gods, including Main Entities like Thor and Tyr.
The extent to which the power of his flames increased need not be said.
The first non-Asgardian to realise that something was terribly wrong was Heracles. He immediately abandoned any intention of concealing his true power, commanding the ambient cosmic energy to flow into his club before swinging it upwards with all the strength in his body.
Thor simultaneously summoned every iota of lightning he could draw from his Origin Core in an instant, gathering the immense power into his hammer before swinging it upwards to meet Surtr’s descending attack.
Following Heracles, the next to realise that something was wrong were those with Authorities related to ‘Warfare’.
They immediately unleashed their full power, throwing out attacks to meet Surtr’s descending sword instead of creating barriers to block it.
Then Surtr’s sword completed its descent.
The waves of flames violently surged across space in all directions, immediately engulfing everything within their range. The radiance of the flames banished the darkness of space, secondary explosions erupting everywhere as divine barriers collided with the destructive fire.
The flames continued spreading outward for light-years, reaching even the soldiers who had long since retreated from the main battlefield around the time Utgard-Loki appeared, regardless of their affiliation.
Divine Alliance soldiers and Infernal Coalition soldiers alike were consumed as the flames swept over them, burning through bodies, armour, weapons, ships, and defensive barriers without distinguishing between either side.
The fabric of space ruptured at several points, while the flow of time distorted under the overwhelming destructive power of ‘Ragnarok’.
It took mere minutes for this devastation to spread across several thousand light-years, and even less time for the bright flames to die down, revealing the burning remains scattered throughout space.
The survivors of the attack were left wounded and battered.
Powerhouses like Thor and Heracles were wounded, and even a Universal Master like Ra, whose attribute was ‘Fire’, suffered serious damage under the attack that ignored durability and resistances.
Several other gods and Celestials, however, suffered even worse fates.
Some High-Tier Deities had been destroyed both body and soul by the flames, their existences completely erased.
Unlucky Inferior-Stage Monarchs were left on the verge of death, while some had been reduced to mere souls barely holding on to ‘Life’ with the last embers of their Authorities.
Thor’s expression was dark as he surveyed the damage inflicted on the Divine Alliance’s fighters.
When he saw the extent of the wounds those closest to him had suffered after that one attack, he gritted his teeth because he knew that this wasn’t the end.
Surtr had only swung his sword once, after all.
The Giant King slowly pulled his sword upward, and the flames that had diminished around the blade began gathering around it once more.
The sight immediately caused the expressions of several gods to pale as they realised that Surtr wasn’t finished.
H-how?!
WHY does he have such power?!
The answer to the despair-filled cries of the gods was quite simple.
Surtr was destined to lead the Fire Giants against the Aesir and destroy Asgard—AN ENTIRE UNIVERSE.
What he’d just displayed was only a hint of the power required for that.
The Giant King adjusted his grip on his sword and immediately thrust it downward, unleashing a concentrated stream of flames straight towards Thor.
Before Thor could even react to the incoming attack, a streak of golden light suddenly flashed through space and collided directly with the concentrated stream of flames.
The collision produced an enormous explosion of golden light and raging flames, with the opposing forces grinding against one another as shockwaves spread across the surrounding battlefield and scattered the remnants of the flames in every direction.
It was only then that the sound of the command made before the streak of light had even begun to move echoed across the battlefield.
Strike true, Gungnir!
