Chapter 2002: Part 2: Magic Smoke Plant

Nova City

The spies had seen the masked man leaving the hotel. They had received orders from the family not to trouble him.

Because the person was one of the famous Appraisers in the Magic City. His name was Frank. These families didn’t want to offend this man.

Because of this, the spies stayed back. But there were other teams who were following the members of the shop.

The families were not naive. They understood that Appraiser Frank was outside the satellite city for a reason.

Last time, he had left the crystal city for business purposes. This time, they thought he had come outside for the same reason.

They were curious about the important person who could make him leave the Appraisal Shop. But there were other people who thought otherwise.

For example, the pet shop owner thought Appraiser Frank had come here with ulterior motives. So, he reduced his shady activities during the daytime.

There were other families who did illegal work as well. If their activities were exposed, then the Magic City authorities could take action against them.

They too had reduced their activities. All of them were waiting for the group to leave the city.

Meanwhile,

The zero puppet was exploring the nooks and corners of the city. It was following the orders of the Master. It didn’t go to the City Lord’s office this time.

It started exploring the city from a remote area. It was entering empty houses secretly to check them. While exploring, it came across troublemakers.

But the zero puppet left the place if the information was irrelevant. Its task was to collect information about the enemy.

The puppet had found a lifelike bird puppet last time. It was looking for a similar thing now.

Suddenly, the zero puppet came across an empty plot with no building infrastructure. However, the plot was surrounded by high walls.

The red smoke was about to move past the place, but it noticed some movement inside the plot. The red smoke then entered the plot to investigate.

The zero puppet identified the place as a graveyard. But it saw many dug-up graves. It moved closer toward them. It saw that the soil was wet and found out that the graves had been opened recently.

But the remains were missing. The zero puppet found it strange. It marked the place. It had read many books and stored information in its database.

It knew that the corpses of wizards were used by the Evil Faction Wizards because their magic power was related to them.

So, the zero puppet decided to investigate during the nighttime. Because it calculated the time and found out that the people who did this chose the night.

The red smoke then left the place. In the blink of an eye, it exited the cemetery. Then, it continued to explore the small path.

On the other hand, Otto and Patrick were sitting inside a restaurant. Both of their moods were not good. They were being followed by people, though they were not that close.

Both of them were veterans, so they knew it might be the work of local forces.

"Did you find anything?" Patrick asked.

"There are shady activities being done in the city. It’s like any other city. But I don’t know whether they are connected to the hostile force faced by the Mage Union," Otto said straightforwardly.

They were inside a private room, so no one could hear their conversation.

Patrick frowned. He then thought of something. He didn’t know whether to ask or not.

Otto spotted his troubled expression.

"What is it?" he asked.

"I don’t know why, but I think the Master is hiding something from us. We have been with him since that lawless land. We have never seen him acting without a reason."

"I think he must have found something in Darkwood City. Now we are in this city as well," Patrick said.

Otto’s gaze condensed.

"I think there must be a reason. It could be orders from the higher-ups. Other Magic Towers are having a lead in this matter," he said.

"But I believe the Master will tell us soon," he added.

Patrick nodded to him. They started eating their food next.

Meanwhile,

Hank and old man Patrick were doing better. No one was getting close to them. It was because the strength of old man Patrick had been exposed.

The spies were maintaining a far distance from them. They didn’t want to make eye contact with the old man.

Hank used the opportunity to ask around. He was hearing about crazy encounters and weird things from the people.

But none of them seemed related to the hostile force.

Time passed.

That evening, I returned to the hotel. Upon entering the room, I went to take a bath. The bath lasted for 20 minutes.

I walked out and changed into comfortable clothes. I lay on the bed and looked at the fan. My thoughts revolved around the magic plant.

A smoke from the plant could make wizards go insane. It didn’t seem to be a plant that grew naturally here.

It was dangerous stuff that could cause chaos in the city. Even if it wasn’t related to the current enemy, the circulation of such a plant should be stopped.

I would hand over the matter to the zero puppet later. Then, I began to ponder the next issue: the local forces here.

They must be curious to know my reason for staying here. At this point, my identity was known to everyone. But the City Lord had yet to come to welcome me.

"Is he not here?" I asked myself.

There were several things that didn’t add up. I decided to visit the City Lord’s office tomorrow. If I went with the identity of Appraiser Frank, I was sure he wouldn’t have an excuse.

If he did something damaging, then it would make headlines. And I was sure those families would help me.

Then I stood up and left the room. I called the hotel staff and told them to release the news that I was going to meet the City Lord tomorrow as a courtesy.
