Chapter 2006: Part 2: Midnight event
Pet Shop
The Manager was planning how to attend the midnight event. He could not delay the work given by the owner. They were already running behind schedule.
They could not do the task in the broad daylight. Because of it, they had to work longer in the nighttime. He didn’t know there was red smoke behind him, listening to his mumbling from time to time.
Just then, he sensed an eerie presence. A middle-aged man dressed in a black and green outfit with a black overcoat on top walked into the shop.
He was wearing a hat unusual to local dress. His appearance drew attention. But the Manager stood up from his seat. He went to greet the guest.
He then invited the guest to the private room. The guest was none other than the client. The red smoke followed the manager into the room.
The zero puppet was recording the conversation.
Both of them were sitting on the sofa.
"Wizard Alaric, here are the collected materials." After saying that, the Manager gave him the storage bracelet.
Alaric took the bracelet and checked the contents inside. The next second, his documentation broke. His eyes flashed with displeasure.
"Why are there not enough materials?" he asked.
The Manager’s heart skipped a beat. He knew the strength of this person was Supreme as well. Moreover, he felt a sense of crisis from him.
"Wizard Alaric, we encountered a situation. People from the Magic City have entered the city. They are exploring the city. We don’t want our actions to be exposed."
"So we stopped collecting the remains in the broad daylight," the Manager said.
Wizard Alaric snorted and said, "I don’t need excuses. I want the numbers to be exact when it comes to the people of the Magic City."
"I have already verified. They are just the appraiser team. They are not going to cause any problems," he added.
The Manager was taken aback. He didn’t expect them to be so updated.
"Alright, I’ll talk to the owner and make it happen," the Manager agreed.
Wizard Alaric then nodded his head and stood up.
"I have to go. I need to collect remains from other cities as well. It’s just your city is lagging behind the quota. If this continues, I will report to the higher-ups."
"Then your pet shop owner will be in trouble." After saying that, he decided to leave.
The red smoke decided to follow Wizard Alaric. When the person left the shop, it followed the wizard from behind.
Wizard Alaric didn’t choose a cab ride. He entered the alley next. The alley had no one in it right now. He walked on the path before finding a place to do something.
The red smoke reached him. He didn’t feel anything. The red smoke saw that the wizard unfolded a scroll before activating it.
Next, the scroll engulfed in flames and disappeared into ashes.
Shortly afterwards,
A black crow appeared before him. The crow seemed to be a normal bird. But it was not. It was actually a living puppet. The zero puppet confirmed it.
Wizard Alaric then gave the bracelet to the bird. The bird picked it up using its claws and departed from the place.
Wizard Alaric then left the alley. He went towards the city gate now. The red smoke followed him until he left the city through the gate.
The zero puppet then went back toward the hotel. In the hotel room, it entered through the window gap. Then it reverted to its original form.
I was laying on the bed. Upon hearing the system voice, I got out of bed. I saw the zero puppet in its original form.
"Is there any gain?" I asked.
The zero puppet then played back the conversation that happened at the pet shop.
I began to listen. My expression was filled with curiosity at first. But it quickly changed to shock. The shock was no ordinary shock, but genuine disbelief.
I had suspected the people to be grave robbers. Now that I think about it, no ordinary grave robbers would rob the remains of other cities. Certainly, it was not a local force.
Only a powerful organization could do that. Then the zero puppet played the footage as well.
"Ask the troublemaker if he is the one who supplied them with the magic smoke," I said.
"Master, there is something more," the puppet said.
Hearing that, I continued to watch the footage. I saw a black crow appear in the scene. It caught the storage bracelet before leaving.
"Master, it’s not a real bird but a living puppet. Wizard Alaric then left the city through the main gate," it said.
Hearing that, my heart stirred. If it’s a living puppet, then it matches with the previous intel. It’s impossible for a living puppet to act alone unless it has similar treasures like the zero puppet.
I think someone is using magic power to operate the living puppet. It could be a powerful wizard with a strange puppet magic, which is yet unheard of to me.
"You did a good job. There is no need to obstruct them. Let them continue with their work. Now, I want you to go to the City Lord’s Office."
"I want to know City Lord Kael’s background. Especially whether he is connected to any Magic Tower or not," I said to the puppet.
The zero puppet obeyed the order. It transformed into the red smoke form and left through the window.
"Should I tell Lord Charlotte?" I asked myself.
I cannot show the footage or voice recordings. It will expose the zero puppet. I can only pass on the information like I discovered it myself.
Besides, there is no need to stand out. I doubt how many others have succeeded in getting information.
If I tell her, then she will inform the higher-ups. They might take drastic action to shut down the cities. It could create chaos and lead to unwanted developments.
But I cannot ignore the matter of the wizard corpse collection by these people. If I’m not wrong, they might do something with the corpses.
After some contemplation, I decided to pass on this information only. Let them verify.
