Chapter 2005: Part 1: Midnight event
Nova City
City Lord Kael is a Body Combat Wizard. He has brown hair and eyes. His skin tone is tan. He is carrying a wide smile on his face.
Upon seeing the guests, he greeted them with a smile.
"Appraiser Frank, it’s nice to meet you and your team."
He approached us and extended his hand for a handshake.
"It’s good to see you, City Lord Kael," I replied and responded with a handshake.
Kael did the same with the others as well.
Then we seated ourselves in our seats. City Lord Kael was sitting behind the office desk. We were facing opposite him.
Kael was still carrying a warm smile on his face. Otto, Patrick, Hank, and old man Rock each had their own assessment.
"System, did you find anything?" I asked.
[Ding! No hostile intentions detected so far.]
I heard the system’s voice in my mind. Then I used the probe function to view the profile information of City Lord Kael.
He is a Supreme Wizard. But his magic power is combat body. He is a physique-type wizard. It reduced some of my doubts.
"I know Appraiser Frank is busy. You must be here for a reason."
"How can I help you?" Kael asked straightforwardly.
"You are right. I was planning to stop by initially, but my identity got exposed. So I have decided to conduct a special event where I can offer my Appraiser services."
I revealed my intentions to him.
City Lord Kael was surprised. He knew about the current situation as well. The local forces were dying to meet this person.
Each family had treasures in their inventory. But most of them were just unknown things occupying space. They didn’t have clear identification for these items.
If they were waste materials, they would have disposed of them long ago. Even he had such items in his house.
"It sounds good. What do you need my help with?" he asked.
"I just need protection for the event. I don’t want any chaos to occur," I replied.
Kael gave it some thought. He understood that the crowd was going to be huge. It would be a big event if members from the local forces were to attend.
"Have you decided on the venue?" Kael asked.
Hearing that, I shook my head.
Kael then said, "If you don’t mind, you can use the guest hall outside the building. It’s inside the City Lord’s office premises."
"Only people with a valid ID and a ticket can attend the event," Kael added.
"That’s great. If you need something, you can ask me," I said to the City Lord.
Kael nodded his head and asked about the date of the event.
"Let’s do it tomorrow at midnight. Midnight will be quiet. Then I will leave the city in the morning," I said to him.
Kael was surprised. They had never conducted an event at midnight before. Then he understood after hearing the latter part of the answer.
"Appraiser Frank is going to leave, but he wants to make use of this opportunity," Kael thought to himself.
"I agree," Kael said the next second. Because he knew the identity of the person. He works under the Supreme Wizard of the Silver Tower.
He didn’t want to offend a Magic Tower member for no reason.
A few minutes later,
A public statement was released.
[Appraiser Frank is conducting a midnight event tomorrow, starting from 12 am to 6 am. Guests can get their items appraised. Strictly for visitors with an invitation card.]
[The City Lord’s office will issue the visiting cards after noon.]
When the public read the news, they were shocked. They had not heard of this person before, so they didn’t take it seriously. They simply thought it was another high-level event where only the rich participate.
But the influential local forces were shocked. They had been wanting to meet Appraiser Frank to get some help. They were worried that Appraiser Frank would leave the city at any time.
So the news came as a timely help for them. Instead of contacting the hotel, they started contacting the City Office to get an invitation card.
They didn’t mind whether the event occurred during the night or the day. All they wanted was to get the services of Appraiser Frank.
The news eventually reached the ears of the Pet Shop Manager. He was displeased because he heard the event was at midnight.
Which meant most of the city would be awake. The business shops might open for long hours during the night.
Whereas their activities would be delayed. They were already running behind schedule. They didn’t expect someone from the Magic City to cause trouble.
The Manager started blaming the locals in his heart. If not for the local forces troubling the person at the hotel, he would have left the city quietly.
Instead, they forced the Appraiser to offer his services. Even though the event was going to be at midnight, he was sure the local forces would send someone to participate.
As a Manager, he had a collection as well. If possible, he wanted to go, but his current task troubled him.
If the owner found out, he would be punished. He decided to make his final decision after seeing how things developed.
As time passed, the local forces began to prepare. They had tons of unknown items in their houses. But they could not take all of them to the event. They could only select a few.
20 minutes later,
I returned to the hotel room with the members. Everyone had a questioning look. I turned toward them.
"I don’t know whether you guys have guessed it or not."
"But I’m doing this event to collect information. If the enemy side wants to target us, the event would be a good opportunity," I said to them.
"Master, it’s a good idea. All the important people from the local forces will be there. We will get some information," Otto said with a smile.
Patrick found the plan to be good as well.
Hank and old man Rock didn’t have any other opinions either. Then we separated and went to our rooms.
In my room, I saw the zero puppet was not there. I didn’t know whether the mysterious client would appear.
