Chapter 562: An Immortal Descends, I Lie in Ambush

In the center of the cavern, an indescribably vast runic array emitted a faint, ghostly glow as it slowly operated.

Countless profound runes flowed across the array like living things, forming an incredibly precise energy cycle.

The Spiritual Qi from deep within the earth’s ley lines was drawn in like rivers to the sea, continuously extracted by this array, gathered at its center, and then transported away through some mysterious means.

This was the true culprit that had severed the world’s source of Spiritual Qi.

To one side of the array, sure enough, stood a slightly smaller but equally mysterious Teleportation Array.

The Teleportation Array stood there silently, its surface covered in a faint halo of light, looking as if it could be activated at any moment.

Beside it was a sizable, brightly lit hall, fully equipped with all manner of living facilities—clearly a temporary residence for whomever was to arrive.

Wu Liangchen didn’t destroy anything. He simply circled the underground installation, committing every detail to memory before turning back to the elevator.

A moment later, he returned to the surface and immediately summoned Lao Gui, Jian Yi, Master Jie Nian, and the others.

By now, the chaos that had plagued Zhongjing for days was finally coming under control, thanks to the iron-fisted suppression by Lao Gui’s people and the calming influence of Master Jie Nian. Though sporadic gunshots and screams could still be heard in the streets, the large-scale riots had at least subsided. Order was slowly being restored.

When Wu Liangchen laid bare the shocking secrets he had learned from the data, along with the full details of the underground array, the atmosphere in the conference room instantly dropped to a freezing point.

Lao Gui’s expression was grim, and though Jian Yi couldn’t see, his hand tightened on his sword. Song Ling’Er wore a look of utter disbelief.

“So, these people could arrive through the Teleportation Array at any moment?” Alina asked, frowning.

“Correct,” Wu Liangchen nodded. “And according to Zero’s data, they will send people to investigate as soon as the Spiritual Energy Extraction Array is damaged.”

“Then what should we do?” Song Ling’Er asked, her voice laced with worry.

A cold glint flashed in Wu Liangchen’s eyes. “Since they’re coming sooner or later, we might as well prepare a warm welcome for them.”

He detailed his plan: they would set up heavy weaponry around the Teleportation Array. The moment anyone came through, they would open fire. Even if it didn’t kill the enemy, it would have to cripple them.

The plan was simple and brutal, but also the most direct and effective.

“Alright! Let’s do it!” Lao Gui slammed his hand on the table. “The Alliance government’s armories are ours now. We have every weapon and round we could ask for. Even if those bastards are forged from steel, I’ll blast them to smithereens.”

Everyone nodded in agreement, a fierce battle lust igniting in their eyes.

There was no time to lose. The operation began at once.

With the Alliance government’s entire military force now under the control of Lao Gui and his people, mobilizing heavy weapons was no obstacle at all.

Armored transport vehicles, one after another, ferried their loads of menacing gun barrels and crates of special ammunition down into the depths of the earth, a constant stream flowing through the top-secret elevator.

Electromagnetic railguns, high-energy laser emitters, concussion armor-piercing rounds, and even a few tactical fusion warheads held in reserve for a worst-case scenario were all carefully positioned in hidden corners of the teleportation hall. Every muzzle and emitter was aimed squarely at the center of the Teleportation Array.

Countless proximity mines lay in wait like coiled vipers at every possible foothold.

The entire underground hall had been transformed into a veritable death trap.

Everything was ready.

Wu Liangchen stood before the monitors, which showed a clear, real-time feed of the underground teleportation hall. He took a deep breath and issued a command over the internal comms channel: “Prepare to attack the energy nodes of the Spiritual Energy Extraction Array!”

He knew the Spiritual Energy Extraction Array was their lifeline. If anything happened to it, they would be sure to come running at top speed.

“Understood!” came the replies from the various squads on the channel.

The next moment, several heavy cannons, already aimed, simultaneously blasted the massive Spiritual Energy Extraction Array.

RUMBLE—

A violent tremor erupted from underground, so powerful that even those in the command center on the surface could feel the ground shake beneath their feet.

On the monitor feed, the nodes of the Spiritual Energy Extraction Array erupted in blinding electrical arcs where they were hit. The entire array’s operation stuttered, a clear sign of disruption and chaos.

Just a moment later, the dormant Teleportation Array abruptly flared to life!

Ghostly blue runes ignited one by one, their glow intensifying from a faint glimmer to a blinding glare as bright as the midday sun!

Once the light reached its peak, it suddenly collapsed inward!

A tall, slender, and indistinct figure slowly materialized in the center of the Teleportation Array.

‘They’re here!’

Through the high-powered cameras, Wu Liangchen could even see space twisting and distorting around the figure.

“Now!” A murderous glint flashed in Wu Liangchen’s eyes. Without a moment’s hesitation, he used his command authority to give the order to the waiting fire-support units!

“FIRE!!!”

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM—!

Countless menacing muzzles simultaneously spat plumes of destructive fire!

Custom electromagnetic railgun slugs tore through the air, trailing faint blue afterburns at speeds the naked eye could not follow, hurtling straight toward the figure that was just beginning to solidify in the center of the Teleportation Array!

The high-energy laser emitters unleashed thick, crimson beams that scorched and warped the very air they passed through, threatening to melt everything in their path!
