Chapter 563: An Immortal Descends, I Lie in Ambush

  • Next Chapter

Concussive armor-piercing rounds screamed with a low whine, spinning as they bored into their target!

Countless proximity mines were triggered in the same instant. The resulting shockwaves and shrapnel formed a dense, lethal storm of metal.

The roar of weapons, the thunder of explosions, and the shriek of energy tearing through the air converged into a frenzied symphony of destruction. The entire subterranean space trembled violently, as if it could collapse at any moment.

In front of the monitor screens, Old Ghost and the others felt their hearts leap into their throats.

They stared intently at the screens, not daring to breathe. ‘With such a dense blanket of firepower, even an Immortal would have to shed a layer of skin, right?’

Under the bombardment of countless munitions, the light of the Teleportation Array flickered violently. The invisible, rune-forged barrier was like glass struck by a sledgehammer; spiderweb cracks spread across its surface before it began to disintegrate and shatter.

Light flared as turbulent energy raged!

The slender figure that had just stabilized in the center of the Array wavered slightly in the violent torrent of energy, seemingly affected.

However, just as everyone thought the sudden, thunderous strike was about to succeed, the unexpected happened!

A cold, utterly displeased snort suddenly came from the blurry figure.

“Hmph!”

The sound wasn’t loud, but it seemed to carry some strange Magic Power, piercing clearly through the roar of the explosions and into the ears of everyone watching via the monitors.

Then, a bizarre scene unfolded that made everyone’s scalp tingle.

The solid projectiles storming toward him—both electromagnetic slugs and concussive armor-piercing rounds—bizarrely froze in mid-air several meters from his body! It was as if time itself had been paused in that small patch of space.

The next second, all the suspended warheads silently disintegrated into the finest dust, which then drifted to the ground.

As for the high-energy lasers, they seemed to hit an invisible barrier as they neared his body, twisting and deflecting to fire into empty space, leaving bottomless holes in the cavern’s rock walls.

“This… How is this possible?!” Old Ghost cried out, his eyes wide with disbelief.

‘This apocalyptic first wave, a full saturation attack… was neutralized so effortlessly?!’

Before the monitor screen, Wu Liangchen’s gaze remained cold, his face betraying no surprise or hesitation. It was as if he had anticipated this shocking scene all along.

Without a moment’s hesitation, he slammed his right hand down on a red button on the console.

At the same time, the light of the Teleportation Array completely stabilized, and the slender figure was finally revealed in full.

He was a young man who appeared to be in his late twenties.

He wore a white robe, antiquated in style yet exuding an ineffable, noble air. His ink-black hair was held back by a simple jade hairpin. His face was as fair as jade, with sharp brows, starry eyes, a high-bridged nose, and thin lips.

He exuded the noble-yet-detached air of one long accustomed to a high station, like an ethereal deity who doesn’t partake of the mortal world, utterly out of place in this subterranean hall thick with the stench of gunpowder and destruction.

At this moment, however, the handsome face of this extraordinary young man was a mask of grim fury.

He was, in fact, furious.

Today was his turn on duty, responsible for monitoring the operation of this world’s Spiritual Energy Extraction Array. But the Array had suddenly issued a warning, indicating a malfunction at a critical energy node. He had no choice but to personally come investigate via this small Teleportation Array.

Who would have thought that the moment he finished teleporting, before he could even get a clear look at his surroundings, he would be met head-on with such a violent assault!

‘An ambush!’

The thought flashed through his mind.

Though his immense power had protected him from any real harm from those crude, mundane metals, the young man still felt an uncontrollable rage surging through him.

In his eyes, the natives of this world were nothing more than lowly ants, a herd of penned-up livestock. They weren’t even worthy of a second glance.

But now, these ants he regarded as less than dirt had actually dared to set a trap and ambush him!

The sheer blasphemy! The absolute audacity!

What a monstrous humiliation!

The young man’s eyes turned glacial, and the very space around him seemed to warp from the intensity of his emotions.

His spiritual sense flooded outward like a tide, instantly locking onto the surveillance cameras hidden in the corners.

He slowly raised his head, his gaze seeming to pierce through every barrier to meet the eyes of the person on the other end of the camera.

In that instant, through the monitor screen, Wu Liangchen clearly felt the chilling killing intent and bone-deep contempt in the man’s gaze. It was the look one gives a dead thing, utterly devoid of emotion.

However, just as the young man was about to act—to crush these audacious ants one by one…

The ground beneath his feet suddenly began to tremble violently, rippling like water.

An indescribable aura of destruction surged in from all directions!

“Hm?” The young man’s brow furrowed as he seemed to sense something.

In the next instant, a white light so blinding it was absolute, like a sun detonating, violently filled the entire monitor screen!

BZZZZT—

The screen instantly dissolved into static before going completely black.

Every piece of surveillance equipment in the subterranean hall was destroyed in the same instant.

In the command center on the surface, Wu Liangchen stood silently before the massive, dead screen, his heart far from the calm his expression suggested.

‘A nuclear detonation.’

The moment the man appeared, he had unhesitatingly detonated the tactical fusion warheads pre-planted around the teleportation hall.

Although they were only tactical-grade, with several detonating simultaneously, their combined power was enough to turn the entire subterranean hall into an inferno.

And yet, a faint tremor of unease lingered in Wu Liangchen’s heart.

Just now, in the instant their gazes had met through the monitor, he could still clearly feel the man’s terrifying aura—as profound and unfathomable as the abyssal ocean—even across the vast distance and through cold, electronic equipment.

That feeling… it was far, far more powerful than what he had sensed from Subject Zero.

The Spiritual Qi that Subject Zero commanded was, compared to this man, like the glow of a firefly to the light of the full moon.

‘Is this… a true Immortal?’
