Chapter 565: Only a Cultivator Can Deal with a Cultivator (Part 2)

Old K’s electronic eye flickered a few times. “I have only one condition. After this is done, I want all of the Dome Group’s advanced technical data on cybernetic modification and neural interfacing.”

Wu Liangchen agreed to this condition with almost no hesitation.

Old K’s participation greatly accelerated the decryption process. In less than half a day, all the encrypted information within the military base was cracked, then compiled, analyzed, and sent to Wu Liangchen.

After reading it, Wu Liangchen let out a long breath. ‘So that’s how it is!’

The analysis report was brief but packed with value, because one sentence inside was crucial.

Only a Cultivator can inflict fatal harm upon another Cultivator.

This instantly made Wu Liangchen think of the newly acquired Devouring Spirit True Understanding.

Although he couldn’t recognize a single character in it, with the help of the Ten Thousand Laws Tripod, he could still analyze and deduce its contents.

It would just require a rather enormous amount of Life Fire.

“Old Ghost!” Wu Liangchen’s voice held a trace of irrepressible excitement. “Immediately gather food and medicinal herbs rich in Qi and Blood. Get as much as you possibly can!”

“Jian Yi, Master Jie Nian!” He turned to the other two. “From now on, I’m leaving the underground base to you.”

Then, Wu Liangchen issued an order that left everyone dumbfounded.

“Move all the weapons in the Alliance Government’s stockpile, especially the nuclear weapons, to the vicinity of the underground Spiritual Cutting Array and set up a chain detonation! The moment those people descend again, I want you to blow that place sky-high!”

A fierce look appeared on Old Ghost’s face as he nodded heavily. “Alright!”

The Starfire Organization sprang into action immediately. Massive quantities of food and medicinal herbs were continuously transported into the base, along with a large amount of weapons and ammunition, the most important of which were the nuclear warheads.

These immensely destructive weapons were all placed near the underground space, their angles specially calculated to ensure complete coverage with no blind spots.

Having arranged everything, Wu Liangchen, alone, took the *Devouring Spirit True Understanding* and a mountain of precious medicinal herbs into a perfectly silent, isolated room.

Time was running out.

He had to deduce the secrets of the *Devouring Spirit True Understanding* as quickly as possible and master a power that could truly contend with those Immortals!

At this thought, he immediately began to eat voraciously.

And just as Wu Liangchen went all out in his breakthrough attempt, trying to glimpse the mysteries of a higher level of power, the entire underground military base was plunged into an atmosphere of unprecedented tension.

Everyone was divided into two shifts, rotating day and night, their eyes glued to the monitors. They didn’t dare to blink, terrified of missing the slightest detail.

However, to everyone’s surprise, the underground space remained as calm as stagnant water for the next three days. The Teleportation Array, which had once shone so brilliantly, was now silent, as if everything that had happened before was just an illusion.

But this eerie calm, rather than allowing everyone to relax, only made them more tense. Everyone knew that behind this tranquility, a much more violent storm was likely brewing.

In the latter half of the night on this day, it was Liangzi and Jian Yi’s turn on duty. The command room was brightly lit, but the atmosphere was somewhat heavy.

Jian Yi was still in his simple Martial Artist’s Clothing, cradling his longsword and silently polishing it. The cold gleam of the blade reflected his impassive face, as if the outside world had nothing to do with him.

Liangzi, meanwhile, had somehow scrounged up a walnut-sized brass bauble. Its surface had been polished to a glossy sheen and exuded an antique charm.

He sat before the monitoring station, staring at the screen while rolling the bauble around and around in his palm, producing a faint grinding sound.

“Yi,” Liangzi began. “You think those bastards aren’t coming? It’s been three days without a peep.”

Jian Yi’s movements as he wiped his blade paused slightly. Then he said lightly, “They will come.”

Liangzi pouted, just about to say something more.

“WEEE-OOO! WEEE-OOO! WEEE-OOO!”

A piercing alarm, without any warning, shattered the tranquility of the base, instantly spreading to every corner!

On the monitor screen, the underground Teleportation Array, which had been silent for three days, was now erupting with a blinding, spectral-blue light!

The runes on the Array’s surface seemed to come alive, flowing frantically and forming visible ripples of energy that spread outward!

“Shit! They’re here!”

The brass bauble in Liangzi’s hand clattered to the floor. His stout body, however, exploded with an agility that belied his size as he shot up from his chair. His eyes were locked on the screen, his forehead instantly covered in cold sweat.

Jian Yi also shot to his feet. His longsword let out a low hum as a sharp Sword Intent emanated from his body.

At almost the same instant the alarm sounded, the entire base was thrown into commotion.

“What’s going on?!”

“Quick! To the command room!”

Old Ghost, who had just lain down a short while ago, leaped out of bed with his clothes in disarray. He grabbed his nearby jacket, pulling it on as he ran and roared, “Alina! Song Ling’Er! Master Jie Nian! Everyone, to Condition One!”

The sound of hurried footsteps echoed throughout the base. Countless members of the Starfire Organization swarmed out of their rest areas like a stirred-up hornet’s nest, rushing to their battle stations.

When Old Ghost and the others rushed into the command room, they saw that the light from the Teleportation Array had reached its peak. The spectral-blue radiance was so intense it was almost impossible to look at, casting the entire monitor screen in an eerie blue glow.

“Prepare for battle!” Old Ghost’s eyes were bloodshot, and his voice was hoarse with tension. He stared intently at the center of the screen, waiting for the enemy to appear. Based on previous experience, the enemy would materialize after the light receded.

Everyone’s heart was in their throat. Their weapons were already loaded, waiting only for that slender figure to appear before they unleashed a thunderous strike.

The light flickered violently a few times, then abruptly contracted inward!

‘They’re here!’

However, when the light completely vanished, the scene revealed in the center of the Teleportation Array left everyone in the command room stunned.

There was no young man in a simple white robe, nor were there any humanoid creatures.

In their place was a dense swarm of bizarrely-shaped creatures!

The creatures were varied in form. Some resembled beetles magnified countless times, covered in thick black carapaces that glinted like metal. Others were like twisted lizards, dragging long tails and dripping foul-smelling saliva from their mouths. There were even some that were nothing but a writhing mass of flesh, covered with eyes and tentacles, exuding a nauseating stench.

“ROAR—!”

“HISS—!”

The various strange roars and hisses were bone-chilling, even through the monitoring equipment.

The moment these mutated creatures appeared, they surged out of the Teleportation Array like a tide.

One group, roaring with a bloodthirsty red light glinting in their eyes, fearlessly charged toward the only upward passage—the elevator shaft—attempting to break through to the surface.

The other, much larger group of mutated creatures lunged directly at the Spiritual Cutting Array that had been damaged in the last nuclear explosion, as well as at the Teleportation Array itself.

Some used their hard carapaces to ram the broken edges, while others used their own bodies to plug the cracks. Some creatures even dissolved into a puddle of pus the moment they touched the Array, strangely merging into its runes and causing the originally dim symbols to glow faintly once more!

“These beasts… they’re repairing the Array!” Old Ghost’s pupils contracted sharply as he instantly understood the enemy’s intention.

“Not just repairing,” Alina said with a grave expression, pointing to a corner of the screen. “Look, they’re also trying to expand the Teleportation Array’s range. Those new runes are clearly intended to construct a more stable transport channel!”

Hearing this, everyone’s heart sank.

‘Using these cannon-fodder-like mutated creatures to drain our firepower while buying time to repair and expand the Array.’

‘If they succeed, God knows what level of monster will be teleported next time, or it could even be entire batches of enemies!’

‘What a vicious strategy!’

“Old Ghost, what do we do?” Liangzi’s voice was trembling.

Just looking at these monsters was enough to make one’s skin crawl, and their numbers were terrifyingly high.

Old Ghost clenched his jaw, the veins on his forehead bulging.

“Conventional weapons! Hit them with everything you’ve got! Don’t let them fix the Array, and absolutely do not let them expand the Teleportation Array!”

He knew in his heart that this was a war of attrition; the enemy was clearly just using the lives of these monsters as fodder. But they had no choice. They had to face it head-on.

The order was quickly relayed through the communication channels.

The next moment, the automated turrets, electromagnetic railguns, and high-energy laser emitters that had long been deployed in hidden corners throughout the underground space all roared to life!
