Great Dao Lord through Deducing Myriad Arts
Chapter 566 - 377: Terrifying Strength, Suppressing a Nuclear Explosion
Countless menacing muzzles spat flames of destruction, screaming toward the monsters.
Under such a dense barrage of fire, the monsters' carapaces were ripped apart. Flesh and blood flew everywhere, and their casualties were devastating.
Some of the smaller monsters were even blown to smithereens the moment the shells struck.
However, these mutated creatures were utterly fearless, as if they felt no pain. They continued to pour endlessly from the Teleportation Array, trampling over the corpses of their comrades and surging wave after wave toward the various firing positions, as well as the two important arrays.
"We're burning through ammunition too fast!" a member of Starfire in charge of armaments reported, his voice trembling. "At this rate, we'll be out of conventional ammo in a day, max!"
Even more alarmingly, the monsters' carapaces seemed to grow tougher after a few rounds of bombardment. At first, one shell could shatter a beast, but now it often took two or three to eliminate it completely. It was as if they were constantly evolving in battle, adapting to the humans' firepower.
Meanwhile, thanks to the monsters' relentless repairs, the massive Spirit Cutting Array and Teleportation Array, though still damaged, were showing signs of recovery. The dim runes on their surfaces were slowly relighting, and the arrays' overall energy fluctuations had become much more stable.
"No. This can't go on," Jian Yi suddenly said in the command room. His voice wasn't loud, but it was clear enough for everyone to hear.
Everyone turned to look at him.
"Jian Yi, you mean..." Liangzi asked.
"I'm going down," Jian Yi said. His tone was calm, yet it carried an undeniable resolve.
Everyone was stunned.
"No, it's too dangerous!" Lao Gui immediately protested.
"I know it's dangerous," Jian Yi cut him off.
"But are we supposed to just stand here and watch them repair the arrays and widen the portal? And then wait for even stronger enemies to show up and crush us like ants? I'd rather go down fighting than just sit here waiting to die."
He paused before adding, "Besides, if I go down there, I can at least buy Xiaowu some more time."
Everyone fell silent at his words.
Indeed, Wu Liangchen was currently in seclusion, and he was their last hope.
But that was only if they could hold on long enough.
"Well said! I've been itching for a fight!" Alina suddenly slammed the table and said coldly, "The worst that can happen is we die."
"I'd rather go out with a bang now than be enslaved and worked to death like livestock by those arrogant bastards later. Count me in!"
"Praise the Cyber Bodhisattva." Master Jie Nian placed his palms together, a compassionate smile on his face. "If I do not enter hell, who will? This humble monk and my disciples are willing to go as well."
Hearing this, the iron monks behind him all bowed in unison.
In that moment, the command room erupted with impassioned fervor. Many core members of the Starfire Organization also volunteered for battle.
Lao Gui watched the scene unfold, his eyes growing hot.
He took a deep breath, suppressing the storm of emotions inside him, and nodded firmly. "Alright! In that case, let's give them hell!"
He knew it was the only way forward.
Soon, an elite combat squad was assembled, consisting of Jian Yi, Alina, Master Jie Nian, and his disciples.
They donned the best personal protective equipment available in the base, armed themselves with the most powerful light weapons and ample ammunition, and took an elevator, resolutely descending to the front lines below.
"BOOM!"
The moment the alloy blast doors to the underground battlefield slid open and Jian Yi's team poured out, the battle began!
Though Jian Yi was blind, his perception was incredibly sharp. His longsword left its sheath like a flash of lightning, instantly beheading several lizard-like monsters that lunged at him. The cold edge of the blade glinted with a bloodthirsty light in the dim surroundings.
Alina held out her hands, and alternating fireballs and blades of wind materialized. They struck the monsters' weak points with deadly precision, blasting them into showers of flesh and blood.
Master Jie Nian and his disciples chanted mantras, their bodies glowing with a faint golden light. They wielded their monastic staves like the wind, shattering the bones of any monster that dared approach.
Their arrival instantly stemmed the tide of the monsters' frenzied assault.
"Hell yeah!" In the command room, Lao Gui couldn't help but roar as he watched the scene on the monitors. He immediately grabbed the comms.
"All available personnel, get down there and provide support in rotations! Send the medical teams, too! Damn it, I don't care if we bleed ourselves dry today, we are holding these bastards back!"
A steady stream of reinforcements was sent underground. Using the terrain to their advantage, they engaged the monsters in a desperate struggle. For a time, the humans miraculously held their ground and even began to slowly push the front line forward.
However, just as the situation seemed to stabilize and everyone began to breathe a collective sigh of relief, something changed abruptly.
The Teleportation Array, which had been endlessly spewing out mutated creatures, suddenly fell silent.
One moment, there was a surging tide of monsters; the next, not a single new one emerged.
This abrupt silence, far from bringing relief, filled everyone with a strange sense of dread.
"Not good!" Lao Gui's pupils shrank. A terrible premonition washed over him, and he screamed into the comms, his voice cracking, "Fall back! Everyone, fall back immediately! Now!"
On the battlefield, Jian Yi and the others sensed something was wrong at the exact same moment. The oppressive atmosphere—like the calm before a devastating storm—made the hairs on their arms stand on end.
