Chapter 1411: Reemployment after Retirement

Close your eyes, feel the power flying away, withdrawing from the ruined shell like dissipating mist, they constantly detach, traverse long distances, and then inject into another shell, refilling, swelling the withered body.

The stagnant heart leaps powerfully once more, squeezing the blood, spreading it to every part of the flesh, rejuvenating the old body.

Beneath the steel mask, ghostly flames flicker, expanding and bright like the blazing sun.

The strong light persists briefly, then extinguishes, replaced by a faint glow reflecting in the darkness, allowing those who gaze into the dark to barely sense the presence of eyes under the shadow.

Lawrence feels the slowness of his physique; he is no longer as sharp as before.

This is inevitable; he consumed too many people’s [Gap], those shattered memories scattered into countless fragments, no matter how he clears them away, some redundancies inevitably remain, gradually making Lawrence’s will bloated.

Just as Lorenzo once saw inside Lawrence’s [Gap], countless souls reached out, trying to drag Lawrence into the endless Hell, yet Lawrence moved forward bearing these souls with his willpower, stepping assuredly.

With the establishment of the legion, these impacts began to gradually manifest on Lawrence; his consciousness started to dull, complex thoughts and memories flashed before his eyes, some were his, some were others’, and some seemed purely like hallucinations.

He seemed to be within the torrent of memories; cold tides swept past, eroding him tenfold, making even his own former self and past incredibly blurred.

[How much further can you go, Lawrence?]

Such a voice echoed in his heart, questioning himself.

Lawrence remained silent, looking at the mirror beside him, reflecting only a monster with a steel mask.

After enduring so much for so long, Lawrence could no longer remember his original appearance; it didn’t matter anyway, he cared little about it.

“We walk on the verge of breaking ice, fissures mottling the ice beneath, cold seawater constantly seeping through, from the dark Abyss, comes the bloodthirsty cries of monsters…”

He muttered to himself.

“Facing the biting cold wind, under the gaze of stars, we tread a path destined to fracture.

Our bodies are so heavy, nearly crushing the ice surface, so to walk further, we need to shed more and more, making ourselves ever lighter until no weight remains, reaching the end of all this…”

This was a poem like a specter; Lawrence’s soft recitation stopped not long afterward, and tranquility enveloped the surroundings once more, until another person walked in.

Liya knocked on the door and then pushed it open, stepping inside.

“Your Eminence.”

Looking at Lawrence’s dark silhouette, Liya asked; she was unsure if Lawrence was there.

“What is it?”

Lawrence turned his head; this time, unlike Liya’s guess, Lawrence’s consciousness existed within his shell instead of wandering the world outside.

“Everything else is prepared, only waiting for you to persuade Cornel and Corey.”

Liya appeared like Lawrence’s assistant, handling everything impeccably, alleviating many worries for Lawrence.

“I know, I’ll pick a good time to explain everything to them.”

Lawrence said softly; these matters seemed not to be an issue for him, whether gently or forcefully, with this great Ascension power, he remains in absolute control.

“You have other concerns, don’t you?”

Lawrence seemed to see through the girl’s inner thoughts, pressing her step by step.

“Hmm? Not speaking? You don’t usually disturb me over such trivial matters.”

Lawrence spoke again; Liya dared not look at him, her gaze constantly wandering, inadvertently resting on the steel mask, glimpsing the faint glimmer beneath the darkness.

The unknown Magic Power grabbed Liya’s eyes, making it hard for her to look away; she said somewhat stiffly.

“I… I hope to become one of you.”

“One of us? Aren’t you already?”

Lawrence’s voice sounded slightly puzzled.

“No, I mean…”

“To become like us, transform into a monster? Possess the forbidden power of Secret Blood?”

As Lawrence spoke, he extended his hand, pulling up his sleeve, revealing a pale wrist, under the pallid skin, dark veins clearly visible, coursing with this world’s sin.

“I want this; I’m just an ordinary mortal, unable to change anything, but if I had such power…”

Liya recalled Hu ao’s death in her mind; if she had possessed such power at that time… maybe, maybe everything would be drastically different.

“Please let me join.”

Liya pleaded eagerly.

The atmosphere fell silent for a few seconds; Lawrence slowly began.

“Liya, sometimes you must know that being just a mere mortal is the most precious. As for such power, no matter how noble or touching your reasons are, in the end, you will regret it.”

“I won’t regret it.”

Liya immediately declared; upon hearing this, Lawrence laughed heartily.

“No, let’s forget it, Liya.”

In the end, Lawrence still refused Liya, denying sharing this great blood with her.
