Rias reached the east service bridge with the young Sairren runner and two wardens less than a minute after leaving Mireva. From a distance, the route looked untouched. Its bronze span still connected the lower residential ring to an upper stair, the side rails were intact, and no Dark Force monster stood anywhere on it.

The first physical marker ruined that impression.

Rias stopped so abruptly that the young runner nearly walked into her. Three raised lines had been worked into the bronze plate beside the entrance, old enough that dust had gathered inside the grooves.

"That means shelter route," he said.

Rias crouched without touching it. "And this bridge?"

"Never led to a shelter."

One of the wardens stepped closer, but Rias raised a hand before he reached for the plate. The bolts were old, dust filled the seams, and there were no fresh scratches around the mount. Either somebody had altered the marker long before tonight, or the records Mireva had given her no longer matched what existed physically.

Neither possibility was good enough to send civilians across.

"Back."

The runner stared over the empty bridge. "It looks intact."

"That doesn’t make it safe."

"But the marker says shelter."

"You just told me it shouldn’t."

He looked at the three lines again, then stepped away on his own.

Rias opened party chat.

[Flash Fang: East service bridge rejected. First physical marker contradicts known route use. No crossing.]

[Emperoar: Copy.]

The upper choir stair was farther west, so they moved without using a bell. Behind them, the Belfry kept ringing lies. A child-route call sounded somewhere below, followed by a return note from the opposite direction. The runner flinched at both, but neither Sairren changed course.

Good.

The enemy had learned their sounds. That did not mean the Sairren had to keep obeying them.

Martin held the center while the city emptied around him. Sairren civilians moved up the residential ramps in tight groups, guided by wardens carrying portable physical markers instead of relying on fixed plates or resonance. Every family had to see the symbol, touch it, and receive confirmation from a living Sairren before moving to the next section.

It was slow enough to make Martin want to pick people up and carry them himself, but it was also the first evacuation method nobody had managed to counterfeit yet.

A Muteclaw rushed the lower ramp. Martin met it with Breakwater Aegis and drove it sideways before its claws reached the civilian line.

"Left!"

Alexandra and Kumoe were already moving. The curious head struck high while Alexandra cut low, and Pack Rhythm flashed between them when the right head shoved the creature into a bronze wall. Two families crossed behind the exchange without breaking formation.

Katherine and Kinnami held the upper ramp while Elisebeth remained closer to the corrupted western relay. Silent Stage contained three copied route-signals inside separate pockets instead of blanketing the battlefield. One sounded like a shelter confirmation, another repeated the child-route call, and the third had Mireva’s voice.

Elisebeth’s face tightened every time the copied Mireva spoke. "How many more?"

Mireva looked toward the civilians still waiting below. "Until this ramp is clear."

"That was not the number I wanted."

Nobody had enough attention left to laugh.

Cassandra’s message appeared in party chat.

[Cassandra: Alive. Western maintenance road. Four Sairren with me. One route-keeper injured.]

Martin nearly took the next Muteclaw across the face. He raised Breakwater Aegis late, caught the claws against the upper rim, and shoved the creature away before checking the message again.

[Emperoar: Mireva says that road climbs toward the west residential ring. Keep moving.]

[Cassandra: Understood.]

Mireva looked toward the broken bridge that had separated Cassandra from them, but she did not waste time asking questions Cassandra could answer later.

Another message arrived from Rias.

[Flash Fang: Choir stair. First two physical markers correct.]

Mireva answered immediately. "Two markers are not a route."

[Flash Fang: I know.]

Rias kept checking.

The fight did not wait for her conclusion. A Ringing Maw climbed onto the evacuation ramp from below, forcing Kinnami to form a golden barrier across its path. The monster struck hard enough to send fractures through the surface.

"Kinnami, release left!"

The spirit dropped one edge instead of trying to absorb the entire charge. The Ringing Maw’s momentum carried it sideways, and Martin met the exposed throat with Breakwater Aegis.

Bronze rings rattled around the monster’s neck. Faultnote flashed across one.

"Alex!"

Kumoe’s right head barked at almost the same time. Alexandra sprinted in and struck the marked ring with one sword, shattering the bronze. Martin switched to Riftbell Warhammer and drove it into the exposed core before the creature could recover.

The Ringing Maw dissolved, but Martin was already turning before the particles disappeared. A Sairren child had stumbled in the evacuation line. His mother caught him beneath one arm, pulled him upright, and kept moving without breaking formation.

The wardens checked the next physical marker and sent the group onward.

The whole Belfry had become movement and confirmation.

Move.

Check.

Move again.

Rias finally reported.

[Flash Fang: Choir stair matches six recorded physical markers. Structure matches previous route.]

A second message followed.

[Flash Fang: Using return disk now. Do not trust the note itself.]

Rias took the bronze disk Mireva had given them and struck it three times against the stair support. One return call traveled upward.

Every Sairren with her ignored the sound.

They waited.

Several seconds later, two wardens appeared physically at the far end of the choir stair and raised the matching hand-sign. The young runner’s shoulders dropped.

[Flash Fang: Far side physically confirmed by two wardens. Choir stair usable.]

Mireva closed her eyes for half a heartbeat. "Use it."

The evacuation shifted immediately. Families that had been waiting on the lower ramp turned toward the choir stair, but no bell announced the change. Wardens carried the order from group to group, and every Sairren confirmed it before moving.

Martin looked toward the lower residential ring. "How many groups are still down there?"

Mireva checked the moving count. "Three."

"I’ll get them."

"You don’t know their domestic routes."

"I know how to follow someone who does."

Mireva stared at him, then called two wardens over. "You stay with him. If anything looks wrong, you decide the route, not him."

Martin nodded. "Fair."

She caught his arm before he left. "If a bell says safe, ignore it. If my voice says safe and you cannot see me, ignore that too."

Martin understood the second warning even more than the first.

"Got it."

He left with the wardens.

The lower residential ring had lost most of its light. Silver route-lines were gone, leaving only the bronze lamps carried by the Sairren beside him. They crossed one damaged bridge and reached the first shelter without resistance.

Eight Sairren waited inside, including two elderly adults and one child. They had stayed exactly where instructed after the bells became unreliable.

The wardens gave the physical sign.

The group moved.

Martin watched them disappear toward the choir stair before following the two wardens deeper into the dark residential ring.

Two groups remained.
