Help! My One-Night Stand Is Examining Me?!
Chapter 372 Through to the end
Miranda tried another tactic, “Mom, just give us that money. We’ll take care of you in your old age and see you through to the end!”
Darius nodded in agreement, “That’s right. Alana is young, and she’ll get married someday. Once she’s married and has her own family, she won’t look after you, an elderly person. You should give the money to us... we’ll use it to take good care of you.”
Alana scoffed.
Just to get their hands on the money, they’d throw anything right at her.
Grandma snorted with derision. This couple was like a pair of clowns, treating her like a fool.
“Do you really think I’d believe that? I’m afraid the moment I give you the money, you’ll go’and squander every last penny. What would be left to support me in my old age and see me off when I die?”
“I’ve already given it to Alana. The money is in her hands now. She can do whatever she wants with it... I have no objections. Don’t you dare set your sights on her!”
Darius and Miranda instantly flew into a rage.
“Mom!”
“Mom!”
“Don’t call me Mom! I’m not worthy of being your mother!”
Darius and Miranda were at their wits’ end.
If the old woman wouldn’t give them the money, how were they supposed to come up with the funds to pay Agnes back?!
Were they supposed to sell their car and house?
But even if they sold the car and the house, they wouldn’t be able to raise that much.
Darius thought for a moment, then couldn’t help but confess, “Mom, Agnes has hired a lawyer and is demanding we pay her back within a week, over sixty million dollars. We simply don’t have the money to pay that.”
“But if we don’t pay, she’ll sue us and get us sentenced. Why don’t you try to talk to her? Tell her not to hold this tens of millions against us. We’re all family... don’t be so ruthless.”
Grandma heard this and was so exasperated she burst out laughing. “Why does she want you to pay back sixty million? Isn’t it because you embezzled her money? Over sixty million! You actually embezzled over sixty million! If only you’d been willing to look after Lana, treat her a little better, and share some of the money with her, things wouldn’t have come to this! You’re reaping what you’ve sown. You deserve it!”
Darius grew anxious. “Mom, please stop scolding us. We know we were wrong. Can’t we just be nicer to Alana from now on?”
Miranda turned to Alana as well. “Lana, you too.... please try to talk some sense into your mom. Don’t let her go too far.”
Grandma showed no reaction.
Alana remained unmoved. “Debts must be repaid... it’s only fair. This is your business; it has nothing to do with me.”
Miranda couldn’t help but glare at Alana, she knew she couldn’t count on her!
Darius gritted his teeth. “Mom, do you really want our whole family to end up in jail? Then I’d rather just die! If you won’t help me talk Agnes out of it, Miranda and I will hang ourselves right in front of you today... we’ll just die and be done with it!”
Miranda was horrified.
Who would want to hang themselves and die with him?
She wanted to live a long, healthy life... she certainly didn’t want to die by hanging!
Darius kept giving Miranda meaningful glances.
It was just a threat... he didn’t really mean it.
He values his own life too!
Grandma still didn’t say a word.
Darius steeled himself and decided to play along until the end. “Where’s the rope?Where would we find a rope here?”
Alana replied. “There’s no rope, but there’s a window. You can choose to jump to your deaths.”
Darius and Miranda gasped.
Darius took a deep breath, glared at the old woman on the bed, and pressed on,
“Mom, you really don’t plan on helping, do you? Do you really want to see your own son die right in front of you before you’ll be satisfied?”
Grandma closed her eyes, choosing to turn a blind eye.
Darius gritted his teeth. “Fine, just fine! I’m going to jump off this building right now!”
He took a single stride and charged straight to the window.
Miranda acted quickly, dashing over to grab Darius’ hand. “Oh my, honey, don’t do anything stupid! If you die, it’ll just be me and our two kids... how are we supposed to survive?!”
“Are we supposed to end up begging on the streets?”
Darius said angrily, “Don’t worry about me. Mom doesn’t care about me anyway. Even if I go to jail, she won’t bat an eye. I might as well just die!”
Miranda clung tightly to Darius, refusing to let go, and turned to shout at the old lady, “Mom, you have to talk some sense into Darius! Even if he’s in the wrong, it’s not a capital offense!”
“You’d better agree to it and get Agnes to let him off! Otherwise, you’ll be burying your own child!”
Darius clung desperately to the window with one hand.
He thought to himself, as soon as the old woman lets go, he’ll let go immediately.
But Grandma just frowned and remained silent.
Alana remained completely silent.
Darius clenched his teeth in frustration, yanked Miranda’s hand away, and climbed onto the windowsill.
“Mom, if you don’t do something, I’m really going to jump!”
No sooner had he spoken than the ward door swung open again.
“What’s going on here? Are you putting on a circus act?”
Stephan’s offhand remark sent a shiver through everyone in the room.
Alana turned around and saw that it wasn’t just Stephan who had arrived; Cynthia and Bernard were there as well.
Cynthia had just heard that Alana’s grandmother’s condition had improved significantly, so she’d brought her whole family over to visit.
Little did they expect to witness quite a spectacle.
The moment they walked in, all eyes were drawn to Darius at the window and Miranda, who was tugging at him.
What on earth is going on here?!
Alana was startled. “Uncle and Aunt.”
When Darius and Miranda saw Stephan, along with Cynthia and Bernard standing beside him, their expressions all shifted.
Confusion, embarrassment, and helplessness flashed across their faces in quick succession.
Grandma felt embarrassed too and quickly snapped, “Stop this nonsense! Get down right now!”
Only then did Darius climb down from the window.
However, as he stood at the window sill with Miranda, the awkwardness still hung heavy in the air.
The people in the hospital room exchanged silent glances, the atmosphere slightly awkward.
Stephan, however, remained much more composed and was the first to break the ice. “Grandma, my parents have come to visit you.”
Cynthia also smiled and introduced herself, “Hello, in-laws. I’m Stephan’s mother.”
“I’m his father.”
Grandma hadn’t expected the meeting between the two families to be so awkward, but she pulled herself together.
“Hello, hello. Lana, hurry up and invite them to sit down.”
Alana nodded. “Uncle and Aunt, there are chairs over here. Please, have a seat.”
Cynthia and Bernard didn’t stand on ceremony; they walked over and sat down. They had even brought a gift to mark the occasion.
Cynthia said with a smile, “We weren’t sure what you’d like, so we just picked up a few small gifts.”
Grandma said awkwardly, “I’m just so happy you came to visit me. There’s really no need for you to bring gifts.”
“It’s only right. After all, this is our first meeting, so we should make it a bit more formal.”
“Oh, it’s the thought that counts. I’ve received your kindness.”
The two chatted back and forth, gradually breaking the ice, and both tacitly avoided mentioning what had just happened.
Alana quietly walked over to Stephan and tickled the palm of his hand with her finger.
Stephan looked down at her and raised an eyebrow slightly.
Alana winked at him. “You brought your parents over, why didn’t you tell me in advance? It was too sudden.”
“It was actually a surprise to me, too.”
Alana nodded in understanding. “Okay.”
