Chapter 710: Chapter 694: Self-Created Spear Technique, First Form “Chaos
So this is how Grandmaster Level battles are fought. It isn’t a head-on clash of brute force, but a game played on the level of Rules.
Whoever has a deeper understanding of Rules and applies them more ingeniously will gain the upper hand.
The Flame Venerable truly lived up to his reputation as a veteran Grandmaster. His understanding of Flames had reached a point where he could manipulate them at will. Every strike and every variation was executed with absolute perfection, down to the finest detail.
Xu Wuyi pondered as he walked, unwittingly returning to the small building. Pushing the door open, he found the room exactly as he had left it. Fruits and tea snacks were laid out on the living room table. Sunlight spilled through the windows, casting a warm patch of light onto the floor.
He sat on the sofa, poured himself a glass of water, and took slow sips, his mind still dwelling on what he had gained over the past few days.
His sparring sessions with the Flame Venerable were strictly confined to the level of Rules. This was because he currently lacked offensive methods; the pure burning of the Flame of Order lacked sufficient lethality.
As for how to integrate the Order Rules into his Spear Technique, Xu Wuyi already had a few ideas in mind, but it would still require some time to research.
Early the next morning, Xu Wuyi left the West Desert.
The Flame Venerable did not come out to see him off. The old man disliked the formalities of greetings and farewells. However, Xu Wuyi knew from their time together that the veteran Grandmaster had genuinely put his heart into guiding him.
The pointers on applying Rules, the challenges deliberately created during their spars, and the seemingly casual advice that struck right at the core—these were all born from decades of accumulated experience. It wasn’t something just anyone could get the chance to hear.
The aircraft broke through the clouds. Outside the porthole, the scenery gradually shifted from the red Gobi Desert of the West Desert to the green hills and clear waters of Dongjiang Province.
Xu Wuyi leaned back in his seat and closed his eyes, his mind still revolving around his recent gains.
He had grasped some of the underlying principles regarding the application of the Order Rules, but it was far from enough. The Flame Venerable was right; what he lacked most right now was an offensive method that truly belonged to him.
The Flame of Order possessed a very strong ability to incinerate Order, but it was too scattered. It was extremely effective against Low-Tier enemies, but once he faced an opponent of the same level, this dispersed burning would struggle to pose any substantial threat.
He needed to condense the Power of Order and attach it to specific attacks. The spear. This was the answer he had arrived at after a long period of contemplation.
Ever since his days at Star Martial University, the spear had been his primary weapon. The Shocking God Spear and the Profound Nether Celestial Spear—he had practiced these Martial Arts to a considerable degree of mastery.
Years of Spear Technique Cultivation had laid a solid foundation for him in the basics of Spear Technique, force generation techniques, and Qi and Blood control.
If he could integrate the Order Rules into his Spear Technique, imbuing every thrust with the power of Rules… what would that look like? He didn’t know the answer, but it was worth a try.
The aircraft flew steadily forward. The clouds outside the porthole gradually thinned, and the outline of Red River City began to appear in his field of vision.
Looking at the familiar city, Xu Wuyi felt a peculiar sensation well up in his heart. He was born here, grew up here, and spent eighteen years of his life here. In those years, he was just an ordinary teenager, going to and from school every day, living the most mundane life possible.
Later, he went to Star Martial University, to Xingjing, and to places even further away. Every time he returned, the city would make him feel a sense of intimacy, but this time felt different. Perhaps it was because his status had changed.
A twenty-three-year-old Grandmaster. The youngest Grandmaster in the history of the Federation. This title was too heavy—so heavy that sometimes even he felt it was a bit surreal.
The aircraft began its descent, piercing through the clouds and aligning with the runway. A few minutes later, the landing gear gently touched the ground. After a slight vibration, the aircraft taxied smoothly and finally came to a halt at a parking apron in the Red River City spaceport.
The cabin door opened, and Xu Wuyi walked down the boarding stairs carrying his simple luggage. Then, he froze. Parked at the edge of the apron were several black hovercars. Over a dozen people stood beside the vehicles. Some wore suits, others wore uniforms, and there were also a few reporters carrying camera equipment.
Standing at the very front was a slightly plump, middle-aged man in his fifties. He was dressed in a crisp dark suit and wore an enthusiastic smile.
Upon seeing Xu Wuyi descend the stairs, the middle-aged man immediately stepped forward, extending both hands from a distance.
“Grandmaster Xu! Welcome, welcome! Welcome back to Red River!”
Xu Wuyi was slightly taken aback, but quickly realized what was going on. This had to be the mayor of Red River City. He had seen him on the news a few times before, though they had never actually met face-to-face. He reached out and shook the mayor’s hand.
“You’re too polite, Mayor.”
The mayor grasped his hand and shook it vigorously, his smile growing even more radiant.
“Grandmaster Xu, your return to Red River is an honor for the entire city! For a small place like Red River to produce a Grandmaster like you—that’s a monumental blessing from our ancestors!”
As he spoke, he stepped aside and waved at the reporters.
“Come on, hurry and take some pictures of Grandmaster Xu. He’s the most prominent figure to ever walk out of Red River, so make sure you get some good shots!”
The reporters immediately swarmed forward, aiming their array of cameras at Xu Wuyi. CLICK CLICK CLICK! A cacophony of shutter sounds echoed out.
Xu Wuyi stood in place, letting them take their photos with an impassive expression. He knew exactly what was going on.
For Red River City to produce a Grandmaster like him was indeed a joyous occasion of massive proportions for the city. The mayor personally coming to pick him up at the airport, bringing reporters along to take pictures—it was all for publicity, to raise the city’s profile.
He had seen this kind of thing plenty of times before, and he understood it.
