Chapter 711: Chapter 694: Self-Created Spear Technique, First Form “Chaos
For a city to produce a Grandmaster was a once-in-a-lifetime event. Anyone in their shoes would be itching to let the whole world know. He didn’t feel any aversion to it; as long as they didn’t go overboard, he didn’t mind cooperating.
After a few minutes of taking photos, the mayor waved his hand to stop the reporters. He then personally opened the door of a hovercar and made an inviting gesture toward Xu Wuyi.
“Grandmaster Xu, please get in. I will escort you home.”
Xu Wuyi nodded, offered a word of thanks, and got into the car. The mayor climbed in from the other side and sat next to him. The hovercar slowly ascended, leaving the spaceport behind and heading toward the city center.
During the ride, the mayor chatted with him enthusiastically, asking about his experiences out in the world and whether he needed any assistance. Xu Wuyi responded briefly, keeping his attitude polite but distant.
The hovercar passed through the city and entered Shanshui Manor. The mayor stepped out of the car to exchange a few more pleasantries before finally taking his leave. The fleet of hovercars slowly drove off, disappearing at the edge of his line of sight.
Xu Wuyi carried his luggage and walked into the courtyard.
The front door was slightly ajar. Voices drifted from inside. It was his mother’s voice, carrying a hint of anxiety. “Why hasn’t he come back yet? Didn’t he say he’d arrive at eleven? It’s already past twelve.”
Then came his father’s voice, sounding much calmer. “What’s the rush? Traffic jams are normal. The spaceport called to say that people from the city went to pick him up, which delayed him a bit.”
“People from the city? Who from the city?”
“Who else could it be but the mayor? Our son is a Grandmaster now. The mayor picking him up personally brings honor to our Red River.”
Listening to the conversation inside, the corners of Xu Wuyi’s mouth lifted slightly. He pushed the door open.
In the living room, Mrs. Xu was standing by the window looking outside, while Father Xu sat on the sofa watching TV. Hearing the door open, they both turned their heads simultaneously. Seeing Xu Wuyi standing at the door, Mrs. Xu froze for a moment before quickly running over.
“Son!” She hurried over, looking Xu Wuyi up and down. She reached out to feel his arms and patted his shoulders, as if to confirm he was really standing there. “You’ve lost weight,” she said, her voice choking up a little. “You must have suffered a lot out there, haven’t you?”
Xu Wuyi shook his head and smiled. “I didn’t lose weight. I even gained a little.”
Father Xu also stood up, walked over to him, and gave his shoulder a firm pat. “Good boy,” he said. His voice was steady, but his eyes were slightly red. “It’s good that you’re back.”
Looking at his parents, a wave of warmth surged in Xu Wuyi’s heart. No matter how far he traveled or how strong he became, in this house, he would always be their son.
“Dad, Mom, I’m back.”
Mrs. Xu wiped the corners of her eyes and turned toward the kitchen. “Are you hungry? I made food for you. It’s been keeping warm in the pot. Sit down first; I’ll go bring it out.”
Xu Wuyi wanted to help but was pressed onto the sofa by Mrs. Xu. “Sit there and don’t move. You may be a Grandmaster, but at home, you’re still my son. It’s not your turn to do the chores.”
He had no choice but to sit on the sofa, watching his mother bustle in and out of the kitchen. Listening to the CLINK of pots and pans, a long-lost sense of groundedness swelled in his heart. This kind of peace could not be found in the outside world. No matter how nice the accommodations or how delicious the food, nothing compared to coming home and watching his mother busy in the kitchen.
Father Xu sat down next to him, picked up the remote to turn down the TV volume, and then looked at him. “I heard the mayor went to pick you up personally?”
Xu Wuyi nodded. “Yeah, he was waiting at the spaceport and even brought reporters.”
Father Xu chuckled. “He knows how to handle people. He called before you came back, saying he had to pick you up personally. I told him he didn’t need to, but he wouldn’t listen.”
He paused for a moment before adding, “He doesn’t have any bad intentions, though. He just wants to use your name to promote Red River. For a small place like our Red River to produce a Grandmaster is truly a monumental event. It’s no big deal for you to cooperate a little.”
Xu Wuyi nodded. “I know. It’s fine.”
Mrs. Xu came out of the kitchen with the food and arranged it on the coffee table. “Eat quickly, while it’s hot,” she said, handing him a pair of chopsticks.
He chatted with his parents as he ate. Mrs. Xu asked about his situation in the outside world, and he picked out the things he could share. Father Xu didn’t talk much but chimed in occasionally.
The meal lasted for nearly an hour. By the end, the dishes on the table were swept clean. Mrs. Xu cleared the bowls and chopsticks while Father Xu turned the TV back up to watch the news.
Sitting on the sofa, listening to the chatter from the television and looking at the sunlight outside the window, Xu Wuyi completely relaxed. He planned to stay here for a while in the coming days. Red River was his home and the place where he felt most at ease. Here, he could think without interruption and conduct his research undisturbed, slowly digesting the things he had learned from Flame Venerable and making them his own.

Around 3:00 PM, he got up and walked into his bedroom. The room was exactly the same as before—the bed, the desk, the wardrobe, and his high school certificates still pasted on the wall.
He sat down at the desk, turned on his personal terminal, and summoned Anna. “Anna, help me retrieve all A-level and above Martial Arts data in the Federation library, focusing on the parts related to the integration of Rules.”
“Understood. Retrieving now.”
A holographic screen unfolded in front of him, displaying densely packed, scrolling entries.
Xu Wuyi read through them one by one. Occasionally, he clicked on an interesting entry, quickly skimmed it, and closed it again. He knew these Martial Arts couldn’t be used directly. They had been created by his predecessors based on their own Rules, meaning they suited them, but wouldn’t necessarily suit him.
