Chapter 3054: Chapter 67: The Third Fire

Zheng Qing still hadn’t left the ice field.

When he sensed a slight fluctuation in a fate line.

A faint red glimmer rose in his eyes as he followed the disturbed weave line, and his gaze finally settled on two scenes—envoys of the Crowley Family visiting Jini Cottage, expressing willingness to provide Edge Academy with a high?spec key laboratory; Sea demons cooperating with Witch Demons to send the wreckage of the Whirlpool to Buji Island.

The former knelt cleanly and decisively.

The latter, though their legs were just as nimble, still managed to preserve a sliver of dignity in the end—the many Great Demons that appeared off Buji Island’s coast during the transfer of the Whirlpool are the proof of that. They seemed to want to show by this that they were not entirely without the power to strike back, that returning the war trophy this time was purely out of respect for a Legend.

"—You’ve barely died properly and your estate’s already been carved up to the last scrap. After hustling all those years, what was the point?"

Zheng Qing held the silver pocket watch up before him, gazing at the newly added intricate, ornate runes on its surface with a sigh. The silvery chain draped over his wrist, sliding slowly, rubbing out a subtle, cheerful sound.

Having just had a full meal, the entire pocket watch seemed to glow with new vitality. Zheng Qing could clearly feel its eager desire to "correct" time. At the same time he also had a distinct sensation that it would be much easier for him now to use this pocket watch to twist time.

"Ahem, you know—"

The Yellow Flowered Cat lightly coughed; the moment it spoke, Zheng Qing already knew what it wanted to say.

"Of course," the young Legend chuckled lightly and slipped the pocket watch into his pocket. "Time is the most fragile and also the most stubborn concept in this World. Don’t try to correct it lightly... I’m not a child anymore."

The Yellow Flowered Cat curled its tail up in satisfaction, wiping the tip across its mouth.

Two Gem Cats climbed out from Zheng Qing’s hat hood and frolicked on his shoulder. The Flower Cat’s gaze followed the two kittens’ movements as it asked, seemingly casually, "—So next, are you still going to light that third fire?"

This time, Zheng Qing stayed silent for a while longer.

For the three fires of a new leader’s debut, he’d originally only had a vague direction—to pick an old troublemaker in the Alliance to make an example of, pick some jumpy Demon to earn merits on, and find a suitable project at school to establish his word.

But as the saying goes, plans can’t keep up with changes.

He hadn’t even had time to act when someone outside the school eagerly delivered themselves to his doorstep. He had originally planned to make an example out of the Karen Family under the Moon Council—this Vampire Family based in the New World didn’t exactly have a harmonious relationship with the Vampires of Europa, they had a Legend in the clan, had some karmic entanglement with him, and coincidentally the Flower Cat had also found out the Karen Family ran an Illegal Laboratory, which made them perfect for his "establishing authority" move—but then the Crowley Family jumped out at that moment and took the bullet for the Vampires.

Behind the Crowley Family stood the Golden Dawn Society, and their reputation was awful; using them to establish authority worked just as well.

Only, after dealing with the Crowley Family, Zheng Qing now had two options.

Either find a new excuse to deal with the Karen Family, or skip them and go back to school to "establish his word."

After pondering a moment, the young Legend spoke slowly: "—I’m definitely going to light it. Once you’ve started something, there’s no reason to quit halfway. I’m just not quite sure where to burn it."

"You’re planning to let the Karen Family off?"

The Flower Cat instantly grasped Zheng Qing’s unfinished meaning, gave him a surprised look, and twitched its ears in obvious displeasure. "That Duke Mi from the Karen family—spreading rumors about you, hitting on your Junjun, and time and again eyeing the Forbidden Curse on you... you’re just going to leave them alone and wait for New Year’s?"

Laid out like that, the Karen Family did sound downright rotten.

But Zheng Qing was not a cat, and he now wore two different hats; he couldn’t act on a moment’s whim. Take this "establishing authority" business—do it once and it’s establishing authority, do it twice and everyone starts feeling like they’re in danger. Having already moved against the Wizard Council, if he then got into a row with the Moon Council, he’d end up in a semi?isolated position within the Alliance, which would be very unwise.

"A Gentleman’s revenge can wait ten years, and we’ve got plenty of time... we’ll find a chance to deal with them in the future." The young Legend finally made up his mind and sighed. "—So, let’s go back to school."

...

...

The instant he returned to Buji Island, Zheng Qing sensed several familiar legendary auras soaring skyward from the First Hall’s location. He fixed his gaze and saw, beneath the clouds, a meditating Giant Ape, a rolling Fire Phoenix, a silver creature with a wolf’s head and serpent’s body coiled into a tower, and a blooming lotus.

These auras belonging to Legends were manifesting in form on a higher dimension that Low-level Wizards couldn’t see.

Zheng Qing hadn’t yet spoken.

The Flower Cat that had returned to the island with him immediately yowled and jumped up. "—Are you kidding me! A show of force right off the bat, huh?! What, trying to bully the few with the many? Xiaoqing, shoulder to shoulder!"

The little green snake slid down silently from the Young Wizard’s ear.

Zheng Qing pressed down the Flower Cat that had sprung up with his left hand, and scooped up the just?slipped Green Snake with his right, soothing them: "Don’t get worked up, They’re just saying hello... as a show of respect, that’s all."

As he spoke, a column of red aura also surged skyward from his body, wrapped by a thick chain, with a strange green dragon and a large spotted cat coiled upon it.

The school’s Array of Guardian Legal Formation obediently drew back its formation, not causing him any obstruction.

The red aura fell straight into the First Hall.

In the auditorium.

The doors that were usually open on all sides were now tightly shut. In the vast space there were only four sparse figures—Old Yao, Professor Emma, Elder Ruoyu, and Lady Shi Hui.

"—I thought people from the relevant departments would come too."

The young Legend greeted the professors with a cheeky smile.

Old Yao folded his arms, biting his pipe, eyeing the Flower Cat and Green Snake sprawled on Zheng Qing’s shoulders with a faintly unfathomable smile. Professor Emma kept a stern face and said nothing. Elder Ruoyu, as always, wore a calm expression.

It was actually Lady Shi Hui, who no longer held a post at the First University, who spoke with fewer scruples.

"—The relevant departments don’t interfere with the school’s daily affairs—that’s the rule. Besides, the three big shots of the relevant departments—mmm, including you, that makes four big shots—They usually don’t interfere with each other either."

Shi Hui looked the young man before her over with curiosity as she gave a brief explanation, seeming not the least bit curious about his reasons for what he’d done before, and clearly not planning to make him submit any kind of mission report. She instead asked straight out:

"—So, what are you planning to do next?"

"Mm, I was thinking, the school’s academies can’t stay this split forever... how about we open a ’Fusion Class’ and try having everyone sit together in class?"

Zheng Qing tossed out a notion he’d long since had in mind and looked around to either side.
