Chapter 3055: Chapter 68: First University Joint Practice Project
The overwhelming aura witnessed from afar upon first arriving on the island was quite different.
Standing in the First Hall, the legendary figures of the academy lacked that oppressive presence. But Zheng Qing knew that, much like the calm and clear weather inside the eye of a typhoon, sometimes what appears ordinary is far from it.
After releasing his third flame.
The young legend exhaled gently, glanced upwards, and felt slightly disappointed that the starry sky usually adorning the ceiling was absent today. Around him, the murals behind the surrounding corridors were obscured by heavy curtains. The vast hall housed only a handful of figures.
He lowered his eyelids, a faint red tint in his eyes, and upon reassessing the auditorium, he saw a completely different scene — the subtle auras belonging to legends formed distinct groups, segregating the hall into distinct patches of color. The legends occupied one half, leaving the other half for him.
So empty, yet so crowded.
Such sentiment flashed through Zheng Qing’s heart.
"—Good."
A calm, elderly voice reached his ears.
Following the voice, Zheng Qing looked to Elder Ruoyu, who was nodding slightly at him, uttering just one word without any further requirement or explanation. It seemed to fully agree with the young man’s rather hasty proposal.
This was somewhat beyond Zheng Qing’s expectations.
As the saying goes, start high with the price, settle low, is the basic way of trading.
What vendor would shout a high price only for the customer to immediately pull out their wallet? Originally, he anticipated that the academy would agree to his plan with limitations, perhaps not stuffing all five academy’s students into a single class at once — even trialing with three or two academies for a joint class would delight him.
"—I have no objection either."
Old Yao, biting onto a pipe, nodded second, smilingly, giving the young legend a thumbs-up, seemingly appreciating his deeds today.
Finally, Professor Emma expressed her stance.
She paused for a moment before finally nodding, not as straightforwardly as the previous two legends, adding, "This matter doesn’t violate the academy’s philosophy, so I agree in principle... but the scale shouldn’t be large, best within thirty people, and keep it low at that... the title, use ’First University United Practice Project’... uniforms should be unified, black is best; usual classes shouldn’t mix with students from other academies, separate instruction is preferred."
Evidently, she had foreseen many possibilities in a short period, filling some gaps in Zheng Qing’s plan.
As for Lady Shi Hui.
She currently holds no positions at the First University, technically unable to interfere with academy affairs, so she did not comment on this matter. But a lack of comment doesn’t mean lack of opinion.
"—Who do you intend to have in charge of this ’United Practice Project’?" Lady Shi Hui gazed at Zheng Qing thoughtfully. "Or are you planning to act as the class counselor yourself?"
Zheng Qing shook his head repeatedly, declining, "I’m swamped with two jobs, also have to find time to help Mr. watch over his bookstore... truly no time."
The existence of the San You Bookstore wasn’t a secret to the legends.
So the excuse from the young dean was tacitly accepted by the legends.
"—You could use projections! Didn’t Old Yao often use projections to teach you all?" Yellow Flowered Cat didn’t know when it jumped onto the ground, now tugging at Zheng Qing’s trousers.
Zheng Qing looked down, glaring at it fiercely.
"—I’m not quite proficient in using projections yet." After withdrawing his gaze, he provided such a dry, unconvincing reason.
The legends remained noncommittal, seemingly accepting his rationale.
This brought about another wave of surprise in him, causing him to involuntarily withdraw his hand into his sleeve, calculating, doubting whether Fortuna favored him when he left home today.
"—Do you have a candidate in mind?" Professor Emma asked back.
Zheng Qing hesitated for a moment.
"How about Councilman Su Shi Jun?" He tentatively inquired.
Finding someone who can be accepted by students from all five academies without prejudice isn’t easy — especially the latter, notably difficult — university stage young wizards, though with a strong rebellious spirit, still maintain sufficient respect for ’rank’ and ’authority’, as long as it isn’t an overly special choice, such as Professor Garcia at Lin Zhong Lake, or Professor Hanibal at Edge Academy, etc., most people would accept school arrangements.
But professors are quite different.
Most academy professors inherently carry imprints from their young days of study. These imprints are secretive and deep-seated, unconsciously manifested in daily teaching routines. Simply put, an Alpha-origin professor cannot be entirely unprejudiced towards Jiuyou or Starry Sky students; correspondingly, an Atlas-origin professor faces true atheist students, and it’s tough to remain calm and peaceful.
Zheng Qing rummaged through the high-level wizards he was acquainted with.
Can confirm only Councilman Su Shi Jun treats students from the five academies equally — she was born in Jiuyou Academy, yet a high noble in the Moon Council, her adopted daughter is studying at Edge Academy — these three crucial academies balanced things, and so did the five academies.
The principle of having three leads to five is universally applicable (great mist).
"—Good."
"—Acceptable."
"—Granted."
The academy’s three legends expressed consecutively, showing no intention of being troublesome.
After a brief meeting, Elder Ruoyu, Professor Emma, and Lady Shi Hui left the First Hall one after another; Old Yao seemed to sense Zheng Qing’s perplexity and didn’t disappear immediately.
"—Do you feel the academy’s attitude towards you is unusually... lack of giving you trouble?" While stuffing tobacco into his pipe, he smiled and glanced at Zheng Qing.
Zheng Qing honestly nodded.
"Indeed... regardless of anything, I at least disposed of an Alliance’s Big Wizard without permission; also handled a near-legendary rank Great Demon unauthorized. Originally, I was prepared to be scolded harshly by you all... but not only didn’t you scold me, instead agreed readily to my ’merge class’ plan..."
He spoke more, feeling increasingly uneasy — strangling high-level demons, in theory, should involve wind-breaking with other high-level presences within the Alliance, via certain procedural reviews, to prevent misjudgments on the demon’s side leading to actual warfare. So, in fact, Zheng Qing’s actions today were extremely risky.
Professor Yao restrained his amusement, shook his head:
"—You are already a legend, no one will scold you. Even though we were once your teachers, we wouldn’t scold you anymore. Regarding the academy’s speedy agreement with your new plan, and the Alliance not bothering you, the sole reason is you handled today’s matters decisively, leaving no space for interference, nor justification. The choice of targets was impeccably appropriate.
Regardless in the Wizard World or the demons’ realm, the approach to handling affairs is largely consistent. The only way to avoid trouble is success... as long as you accomplish things, all flaws can be tolerated."
