Chapter 3076: Chapter 89: Three Tarot Cards

Alpha Fortress.

Black family’s lounge.

When Guan Shanyun stepped into the lounge, it was dusk, the orange light filtering through the tall floor-to-ceiling windows illuminated the owner of the lounge, leaving a long, thin shadow on the deep red wool carpet.

Patrick Black sat behind the desk.

Playing with a deck of Tarot Cards in his hands.

The reply from Mr. George and the Seven Sins meeting finally made him resolute in accepting a blood servant descendant with enough potential for the Black family. Yet, the faint sense of danger lingering at the bottom of his heart refused to fade, causing him to unconsciously start playing with the Tarot Cards while waiting for the guest.

Guan Shanyun, like an acquaintance, pulled open the high-backed chair in front of the desk, naturally sat down, crossed his legs, and observed the pure-blooded Long-Lived Kind in front of him, a flash of greed disappeared from his eyes—he could be sure that this pure blooded vampire could be sold for a high price in the Main God Space, and during his time mixing in school, he also found that the young wizards living in the Ivory Tower maintained too high a moral level.

Vigilance was present, but not enough.

Even the most ’evil’ clique of students merely appeared somewhat mean and mercenary, not even truly malicious. He dared to bet that these young people, once in the Main God Space, would likely suffer heavy casualties after just a few mission spaces.

If he could time it right before leaving and launch a surprise attack—

The bronze mirror hanging in front of the floor-to-ceiling window gently swayed, a glimmer of light scanned the lounge, as if trying to discover the source of the not-so-well-intentioned aura. The portrait of the Black family’s ancestor hanging on the wall also awoke from sleep, pulling out a monocle from the pocket on his chest and leisurely clamping it to his eye sockets, overlooking the small room.

Cold sweat emerged on Guan Shanyun’s back.

He slowly lowered his head, squinted his eyes, and tried hard to suppress the misplaced greed. Having survived so long in the Main God Space, his greatest insight was to remain fearful when greed prevails. Especially in this World where there are so many unfathomably powerful existences, even the slightest mistake could lead not just to being untraceably dead, but to being slowly tortured after death.

When Patrick looked up, the guest had already raised his head again, his gaze had once more become tame.

"—Be careful."

The young vampire of the Black family was satisfied with the guest’s gaze, but found the guest’s coarseness somewhat bothersome, he glanced at the Tuki Sect member’s casually crossed legs, spoke a warning: "For any Moon Clan, noble etiquette is more important than life. You must remember that."

Guan Shanyun’s eyes lit up, and he obediently put his leg down.

With just those words, he was certain the Black family decided to accept his ’fealty’, willing to grant him Initial Embrace. However, amidst the joy, he couldn’t help muttering to himself, in the Main God Space, there’s nothing more important than staying alive, compared to that, elegance or etiquette, those were merely concepts played by perverts.

"—Yes, Master Patrick."

He lowered his head, answering respectfully, already assuming the role of a loyal servant.

Patrick felt somewhat surprised, uneasily shifted his sitting posture, then glanced at the cards in his hand, pushed them towards the guest’s face: "—Do you know how to Tarot divine? Draw three cards from here."

Guan Shanyun didn’t know much about this World’s divination magic, but he was aware of its mystery and power.

It’s said that part of the skilled diviners qualify as Great Divinors, enjoying Big Wizard treatment even without a Big Wizard’s magic power, and are respectfully titled ’Great Divinor’ in the Alliance.

A Big Wizard is equivalent to a fourth-tier powerhouse in the Main God Space.

In Guan Shanyun’s view, perhaps Great Divinors are akin to ’Super Sages’ in the space, so when Patrick pushed the pile of Tarot Cards in front of him, he immediately interpreted it as a sort of ’sage’s test’ or similar.

He held his breath, concentrating, trying to clear away distracting thoughts, cautiously reached for the pile of cards.

"—God of Death."

Guan Shanyun drew the first card.

Patrick slightly furrowed his brow, reluctantly nodded: "—The first card represents the main body. You come from a place closely related to death...that force is irresistible...someone has already fallen, some accept this cruel reality, some try to evade, and some engage in futile resistance."

He thought the card was indicating the Tuki Sect.

But Guan Shanyun knew deep down, the card was likely indicating the Main God Space.

This made him even more cautious.

Then came the second card.

"—The Tower."

"The second card is the situation. It represents you encountering a very bad accident." Patrick succinctly interpreted, didn’t detail the upright or reversed positions and other nuances.

Undoubtedly, Guan Shanyun’s expression turned somewhat grim—nothing worse than having spent a great reward point to enter a high magic world for advancement only to be forcibly interrupted by external forces, facing possibly losing everything and an even worse accident.

The good news was, he seemed to have spotted a chance to reclaim his cost.

The lounge’s owner mistook the guest’s grim face as due to the Atlas Academy’s handling of him, promptly offered comfort: "—Though your situation is a bit bad, it’s not without solutions...draw the third card."

"—Strength."

Guan Shanyun looked at the Beast Tamer suppressing the lion on the card face, softly read out the card’s name.

"The ninth card of the Great Arcana indicates you have the ability to address the current crisis." Patrick rubbed the cards in his hand, lightly analyzed:

"Crisis, danger and opportunity coexist...fear is a human instinct, it will make you weak, and then swallow you. But it can also make you crazy, and continue to devour you. The only way to escape being devoured is to find your rationality. Rationality is how humans control instincts. I’m not sure I really understood what these card faces conveyed, but I think these three cards showed some possibility."

Guan Shanyun earnestly scrutinized the three card faces before him, admired their beautiful patterns and illustrations, enhancing his reverence towards this World a few notches.

"—The Black family is my opportunity, also my way to reclaim rationality and control instincts." He shamelessly flattered the young vampire before him.

This made the lounge’s owner feel slightly embarrassed, waved his hand repeatedly: "—Whether it’s Tarot cards, crystal balls, or tea leaves and Shi Cao Gan, they’re mere mediators of destiny, helping us see those hidden routes in the foggy mist, which we haven’t clearly understood yet. But they can’t truly decide our future. What determines each of our destinies is ourselves. This lesson was taught to us by the teacher in our first divination class."

Indeed, deciding one’s destiny only belongs to oneself.

Especially in that ghost place known as Main God Space.

Guan Shanyun nodded deeply in agreement.
