"Let’s get you checked," Leo suggested immediately, his voice calm but firm.
Bella wiped her lips and shook her head.
"It’s nothing," Bella said, her voice dismissive.
Leo frowned.
"Bella," Leo said, his voice low.
"I’m serious. I probably just ate something that didn’t suit me," Bella said, trying to brush it off with a small smile.
But Leo wasn’t convinced.
Eli, who had been watching her anxiously, immediately joined in.
"Mumma, go doctor," Eli said, his voice urgent.
Bella looked at him.
"I’m fine, baby," Bella said, her voice soft.
"No, you’re not," Jay said from behind him, his voice flat. "You literally just ran to the sink."
Bella gave him a helpless look.
"Everyone is making it sound worse than it is," Bella said, her voice tired.
Jay folded his arms.
"Because you are making it sound smaller than it is," Jay said, his eyebrow rising.
"I’ll be fine," Bella said, her voice firm.
Leo’s eyes narrowed slightly, but he didn’t argue further.
At least, not then.
But the problem didn’t disappear.
Over the next few days, Bella’s nausea kept returning.
At first, it happened only occasionally. Then she began feeling sick whenever she smelled certain foods. Soon, even some of her favorite dishes became impossible for her to tolerate.
The moment the smell reached her, her stomach would twist painfully.
Sometimes she managed to take only a few bites before pushing the plate away.
Other times, she couldn’t even sit near the food.
Her appetite gradually disappeared.
Bella kept insisting she was fine.
But Leo noticed everything.
He noticed how much smaller her meals had become.
He noticed the tiredness beneath her eyes.
He noticed that her face, which usually carried so much warmth, had started looking pale.
And he noticed how her clothes seemed slightly looser than before.
Every time he asked her to see a doctor, Bella found another excuse.
"I’m just tired," Bella said, her voice small.
"I’ll feel better tomorrow," Bella said, her smile weak.
"Maybe it’s the weather," Bella said, her eyes darting away.
"Leo, really, I’m okay," Bella said, her voice pleading.
Even Eli tried.
"Mumma, doctor will make you better," Eli said, his voice hopeful.
Bella would simply kiss his forehead and promise him she was fine.
A few more days passed.
That evening, Bella had barely managed to eat anything before suddenly covering her mouth and rushing away.
Leo watched her disappear toward the bathroom, his jaw tightening.
He didn’t say anything.
He simply took out his phone.
A few minutes later, while Bella was still unaware, Leo made a call to their family doctor.
"I want you to come to the house tomorrow," Leo said without wasting time, "my wife is sick"
There was no room for argument.
" I want you too Check her thoroughly," Leo said, his voice firm.
He paused, his expression becoming more serious.
"She’s been vomiting repeatedly and barely eating," Leo said, his voice low.
After ending the call, Leo stood there for a moment, staring toward the hallway.
He knew Bella would probably be annoyed when she found out.
He also knew he would rather deal with her anger than continue watching her become weaker day by day.
And, just as Leo expected, Bella found out.
She was sitting on the edge of the bed, laptop open, when footsteps came down the hall. She glanced up, expecting a maid. Instead, Leo walked in. Behind him, carrying his medical bag, came their family doctor.
Bella’s fingers froze over the keyboard. Her eyes moved from the doctor to Leo, then back to the doctor.
Her whole face changed.
"What’s he doing here?" Her voice was sharp.
Leo shut the door behind them. "He’s here to check you."
Bella stared at him. For a second she looked genuinely stunned. "You called him?"
"Yes."
"Without telling me?"
He nodded.
Her eyes went wide. "You called a doctor without asking me?"
"Yes."
"Leo!"
He blinked. That tone made him pause. Bella rarely raised her voice at him. Usually she got annoyed, laughed it off, or walked away. Today she looked at him like he had committed a crime.
"You knew I didn’t want a doctor."
"I know."
"Then why?"
"Because you’re getting worse."
She shook her head hard. "I’m not getting worse."
Leo looked at her pale face. "Bella."
"I’m fine."
"You’ve been throwing up for days."
"It’s nothing."
"You’re barely eating."
"I’ll eat later."
"Your clothes are getting loose."
She opened her mouth. Nothing came out.
Leo stepped closer. "You look exhausted."
She glared at him. For a moment he just stared back, genuinely lost. This was his wife. The woman who got shy whenever he worried too much. The woman who softened after one look from him. Today she looked at him like he had betrayed her.
He raised both hands slowly. "Why are you looking at me like I committed a crime?"
"You did."
His eyebrows went up. "I called a doctor."
"Exactly."
Leo stared at her. Near the door, the doctor suddenly found the floor very interesting.
Bella folded her arms. "You could have asked me."
"And you would have said no."
"Yes!"
"Then we would still be arguing."
"We are already arguing."
He almost smiled. Her expression killed it. She was really upset.
His face softened. He stepped in closer, voice dropping. "Bunny, I’m not trying to control you."
Her anger slipped a little.
"I’m worried about you."
She looked away.
He reached for her hand. "I can handle you being angry with me. I can’t handle watching you get weaker and pretending I don’t see it."
She stayed quiet. Her fingers stayed stiff in his.
Leo glanced at the doctor, then back at her. "You don’t have to like that I called him." His thumb moved slowly across the back of her hand. "But please let him check you."
She looked at him again, still annoyed.
He sighed. "Afterward, you can yell at me as much as you want."
A small crease formed between her brows. "Really?"
"Unfortunately, yes."
Her lips twitched.
He caught it. "There."
"What?" She looked confused.
"You’re almost smiling. Which means you’re not angry anymore."
"I’m still angry."
"I know." He squeezed her hand. "But angry enough to argue with me is better than watching you pretend you’re fine."
She stared at him for a long moment. Then a reluctant sigh slipped out. "Fine."
His shoulders dropped a little.
"But I’m still angry with you."
"I know."
"And you shouldn’t have called him without asking."
"I know."
"And—"
"Bella." He cut her off, eyes amused. "Let the poor doctor examine you before you finish my trial."
The doctor coughed into his hand.
Bella crossed her arms and looked away. Still annoyed. But her shoulders had loosened. She was no longer fighting him.
Leo guided her gently toward the bed. "Just let him check you."
She sighed again, but this time she didn’t argue.
