Chapter 917: Chapter 917 OB-GYN

Bella eventually stopped arguing.

Still looking slightly annoyed with Leo, she sat on the edge of the bed and let the family doctor begin his examination. Leo stayed nearby the whole time, arms folded across his chest, eyes following every movement. Bella cooperated quietly, answering each question the doctor asked.

"When did the vomiting begin?" the doctor asked, pen ready.

"A few days ago," Bella answered, her voice tired.

"How often?"

"Mostly when I smell food. Sometimes after eating."

"Any fever? Dizziness? Stomach pain?"

Bella shook her head. "No fever. I feel tired sometimes, but that’s probably because I haven’t been eating properly."

The doctor nodded and wrote something down. Then he reached into his bag and pulled out a blood pressure cuff. He wrapped it around her arm and pumped it slowly, watching the gauge.

"Your pressure is a little low," he murmured, more to himself than to her.

"Is that bad?" Bella asked.

"Not necessarily. It can happen when someone isn’t eating enough." He removed the cuff and reached for his thermometer. "Open."

Bella opened her mouth. He placed the thermometer under her tongue and waited. A few seconds later, it beeped. He checked the reading and nodded.

"No fever. That’s good."

Next came the stethoscope. He pressed it against her chest, then her back. "Breathe in deeply for me."

Bella inhaled.

"Again."

She inhaled again.

He moved the stethoscope lower, listening to her stomach. His brow furrowed slightly but he said nothing. He pressed gently on her abdomen with his fingers.

"Does this hurt?"

"No."

"Here?"

"No."

"Any tenderness at all?"

Bella shook her head.

He sat back and studied her face. "You said you feel tired. How tired? Just in the evenings or throughout the day?"

"Throughout the day," Bella admitted. "But that’s normal when you don’t eat much, right?"

"Sometimes," the doctor said carefully. "Sometimes not."

He turned to Leo. "Has she been sleeping well?"

Leo shook his head. "She wakes up tired. She goes to bed early. It doesn’t seem to help."

The doctor nodded slowly. He reached into his bag again and pulled out a small device. "I’m going to check your blood sugar. Just a quick prick."

Bella held out her hand. The doctor cleaned her fingertip with a small wipe, then pressed the lancet against her skin. A tiny drop of blood appeared. He touched the test strip to it and waited.

"Ninety-two," he read. "Normal."

He wrote it down.

"One more thing," he said. "I want to check your heart rate while you’re lying down, then again when you sit up."

Bella lay back on the bed. The doctor pressed two fingers against her wrist and counted silently. Then he helped her sit up and did it again.

"Your heart rate jumps a little when you stand," he murmured. "That can happen with dehydration."

He closed his notebook and looked at her carefully. "I’ve checked everything I can check here. Your vitals are stable but something is clearly going on."

Leo stepped closer. "What do you mean?"

"Her symptoms don’t match a simple stomach bug. The nausea, the fatigue, the loss of appetite, the sensitivity to smell... they could point to several things."

"Like what?" Bella asked.

The doctor hesitated. "I want you to see an OB-GYN."

Leo’s jaw tightened. "Why?"

Bella looked just as lost. "An OB-GYN?"

The doctor nodded. "Yes. I’d like her to run a proper examination and a few tests."

Bella frowned. "But why? I don’t understand."

Leo stepped closer. "Is something wrong with her?"

"I don’t want to jump to conclusions," the doctor said carefully. "But some of the symptoms you’ve described, along with what I’ve seen today, make me think we shouldn’t just assume this is a stomach problem."

Bella stared at him. "What else could it be?"

The doctor paused. "There are several possibilities. One of them should be ruled out properly."

Leo’s eyes narrowed. "Which one?"

The doctor looked between the two of them. "Pregnancy."

Silence.

Bella just stared at him. Leo’s expression went completely blank. For several seconds, neither of them seemed able to respond.

Then Bella let out a small, almost disbelieving laugh. "Pregnancy?"

The doctor nodded.

"But that’s not possible."

Leo’s eyes moved toward her.

Bella shook her head quickly. "No. Doctor, that’s... that’s not possible."

"Why?"

Bella hesitated. She glanced at Leo, then back at the doctor. "Because according to everything we know, I can’t get pregnant."

Leo’s expression turned even more serious. "Exactly."

The doctor studied them for a moment. "I understand. That’s why I’m not telling you that you are pregnant."

He calmly closed his medical bag. "I’m telling you that I don’t want to assume you’re not."

Bella’s fingers curled against the bedsheet.

The doctor went on gently, "The symptoms can have many causes. We need proper testing before saying anything. An OB-GYN can examine you more thoroughly and arrange the right tests if needed."

"What kind of tests?" Bella asked, her voice small.

"Blood work, mainly," the doctor said. "They’ll check your hormone levels, including hCG. That’s the most reliable way to know for certain."

Leo’s voice was low. "And if it’s not that?"

"Then they’ll look at other possibilities. Thyroid issues. Anemia. Hormonal imbalances. Digestive problems. There are many things that can cause symptoms like hers."

Bella looked at Leo.

Leo looked at the doctor. "When can we see someone?"

"I’ll make a call tonight," the doctor said. "I know a good specialist. She can see Bella tomorrow morning if you’d like."

Leo nodded. "Do it."

The doctor packed his bag and stood. "I’ll send the details to your phone."

He looked at Bella one last time. "In the meantime, try to eat something small. Even if you don’t feel like it. And drink water."

Bella nodded quietly.

The doctor left.

The room went silent.

Leo turned to her. Bella was staring at the bedsheet, her fingers still curled into the fabric.

Leo sat beside her. He didn’t say anything. He just took her hand.

Bella looked at him.

"What if he’s right?" she whispered.

Leo held her hand tighter. "Then we’ll deal with it."

"And if he’s wrong?"

"Then we’ll deal with that too."

Bella let out a shaky breath. She leaned against him and Leo wrapped his arm around her, pulling her close.

Neither of them said anything else.
