Chapter 100 — I’m Not Afraid of Being Expelled

Harry and the others looked at Vesey helplessly.

This girl was simply too foolish. Even if Snape really did steal the Philosopher’s Stone, there was no need for her to make such a bet. What if it actually came true?

But arguing with Vesey about whether Snape was a good or bad person was obviously pointless.

Vesey had an enormous filter when it came to Snape.

Even if Snape reported Harry and the others to a professor, Vesey would believe that he was only doing it because he was afraid they might get hurt.

Vesey, Harry, and the others had no idea what to do.

"No matter what, I’m going there tonight to protect the Philosopher’s Stone!" Harry said firmly.

"I don’t want the Philosopher’s Stone to fall into Voldemort’s hands, and I don’t want him to come back!"

Vesey immediately said, "Brother, I’ll go with you!"

Harry was about to refuse, but then he saw the determination in Vesey’s eyes.

"Brother, dealing with Voldemort isn’t just your responsibility. It’s mine too. I’m our parents’ child as well, and I should have the right to avenge them!"

Harry stared at her for a while, but eventually gave in.

"Okay! Let’s do it! The two of us will go together!"

Hermione hesitated before saying, "We can bring the Invisibility Cloak. If we don’t take it, we’ll probably be caught."

Harry froze.

He stared blankly at Hermione.

Ron laughed.

"Stop staring. Think about it carefully. Can the Invisibility Cloak cover all four of us?"

Vesey also looked at Ron and Hermione as if they had said something ridiculous.

"Four people? You can’t go. If we get caught, we’ll probably all be expelled."

Hermione shook her head.

She looked at Vesey gently.

"Don’t be silly. Do you really think we’ll let you get expelled alone? If we really are expelled, then so be it. We can open a shop together in Diagon Alley. We’ll definitely be fine!"

Vesey hugged Hermione.

After dinner, Vesey didn’t respond to the Slytherins. She sat in the Gryffindor common room with Harry and the others, wearing the Invisibility Cloak.

Harry and the others were largely being ignored these days, but Vesey was different.

In fact, quite a few people came over to talk to her.

Everyone liked greeting a pretty and clever little witch like Vesey.

So Vesey put on the Invisibility Cloak to avoid unnecessary trouble.

After everyone had returned to their dormitories, Harry and the others prepared to slip beneath the Invisibility Cloak.

"Let’s get it over with now, before Filch sees a few pairs of feet walking around!"

Harry said this as he was about to pull the Invisibility Cloak over himself.

Then a voice suddenly rang out.

"What are you going to do?"

They all jumped.

It was Neville.

"We have something to do, Neville. You’d better go back!"

Hermione said nervously.

Neville spread his arms.

"Don’t lie to me. I heard you say this afternoon that you were going to steal something. Listen, you can’t do this. You’ll be expelled!"

Harry and the others became even more nervous.

"Listen to us. That thing is very important. We aren’t stealing it. We’re just making sure it stays there!"

Harry said firmly.

But Neville didn’t believe him.

"Stop lying to me. Whatever you’re planning to do, I’m going to stop you. Gryffindor can’t lose any more points!"

Ron shouted angrily, "This has nothing to do with you. Get out of the way, idiot!"

"Don’t call me an idiot! I’m not afraid anymore. You taught me to stand up for myself. Now it’s time for me to resist!"

Harry and the others didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

"We told you to stand up to Malfoy, not us..."

Before he could finish speaking, Neville collapsed.

It was Vesey.

She was still holding her wand.

Neville lay motionless on the floor, petrified, his eyes wide with disbelief.

He wasn’t the only one who was shocked. Harry’s eyes nearly popped out of his head as well.

Vesey’s face was slightly pale. She knelt down beside Neville and said,

"I’m sorry, Neville. I shouldn’t have done this, but we have something important to do tonight—something important enough that we’re willing to risk being expelled.

"So I’m sorry. But I believe someone will come and undo the spell for you soon. And even if nobody does, it will wear off on its own tomorrow morning."

Vesey stood up.

Her eyes were slightly red.

She clearly felt guilty for hurting Neville, but she still said firmly, "Brother, let’s go!"

Harry and the others quickly ran over and pulled the Invisibility Cloak over themselves.

Ron stepped over Neville.

He said somewhat nervously, "Neville, if someone asks who did this, just say it was me. I’m not afraid of being expelled!"

Harry immediately said excitedly, "No, Neville, tell them I did it. Vesey was only doing it for everyone..."

Before he could finish, Vesey and the others pulled him away.

"Okay, Brother. What I did is what I did. Let Neville tell the truth. At worst, I’ll drop out of school..."

She paused.

"And compared to what we’re doing tonight, being expelled is probably the simplest punishment anyway!"

Vesey’s words reminded Harry and the others.

Indeed, compared with breaking through all the obstacles protecting the Philosopher’s Stone, attacking Neville was only a trivial matter.

But no matter what, leaving Neville there was still a bad way to begin.

They moved extremely cautiously as they left.

Whenever they heard the slightest disturbance, they thought Filch was coming to arrest them.

Fortunately, when they reached the fourth-floor corridor, there was no one around.

But just as they were going down the last step, they heard Peeves’ voice.

"Who’s there? Peeves can’t see you, but Peeves knows someone’s there! Are you little schoolboys or ghouls?"

"No, Peeves is going to tell Filch and let him catch you!"

Peeves shouted excitedly.

He sometimes hated Filch, but he also loved watching Filch catch students and punish them.

So there was a good chance he really was going to find Filch.

Everyone became anxious.

Vesey suddenly raised her wand.

"Waddiwasi!"

She whispered the spell and sent a rag flying straight into Peeves’ mouth.

Peeves was stunned.

There was actually a spell that could affect ghosts?

More importantly, he really couldn’t speak now.

The rag had practically stuffed his mouth shut.

"Oh, Peeves, just settle down for the night. You can talk again tomorrow. I’m sorry!"

Vesey spoke with an expression that looked genuinely apologetic.

Harry and the others looked at Vesey affectionately.

"Vesey, you’re so kind. I’ve never seen such a cute little witch!"

Hermione said admiringly.

Harry and Ron nodded in agreement.

Peeves, however, who was trembling with rage and desperately trying to pull the rag from his mouth, had a completely different opinion.

What kind of good person stuffed a ghost’s mouth with a rag?

Even Bloody Baron wouldn’t be this cruel!
