Chapter 101 — Passing Through the Trapdoor
Harry and the others, who had long since been brainwashed by Vesey, naturally ignored Peeves, who was always tormenting them.
They even threatened him, saying that if he didn’t leave immediately, they would ask Vesey to make the rag permanent so that Peeves could never take it out.
Peeves flew away angrily.
Before leaving, he smashed the wooden railing of the stairs, making a tremendous noise.
"Who’s there?" Filch shouted.
Harry and the others turned pale. They immediately opened the door and rushed inside.
As soon as they entered, Fluffy’s low growl reached their ears.
The group carefully moved forward, observing their surroundings.
"There’s something at his feet!" Vesey said.
Everyone looked over.
Sure enough, there was a harp at Fluffy’s feet.
Harry and the others’ faces paled.
"Has someone already been here?"
That was obvious.
After all, the harp was clearly there to put Fluffy to sleep.
"Song!"
Vesey pointed her wand at the harp.
The harp immediately began to play.
Fluffy’s three heads gradually became drowsy.
His heads kept drooping lower and lower.
Harry and the others removed the Invisibility Cloak and approached Fluffy.
"The trapdoor is right underneath him!" Hermione observed.
Everyone already knew that, but the problem was that if the trapdoor was underneath Fluffy, they had to move him out of the way.
That was an extremely difficult task.
Fluffy was simply too heavy.
They were also afraid that he might suddenly wake up and bite their heads off.
"Wingardium Leviosa!"
Vesey whispered.
Fluffy slowly floated into the air.
Hermione slapped her forehead.
"Oh my God, I forgot! I’m a wizard!"
Once Vesey had moved Fluffy aside, they could finally see the small trapdoor.
"I’ll go down and take a look first. If everything is fine, I’ll call you!"
Vesey suddenly said.
Then she jumped through the trapdoor.
Harry and the others were startled. When they recovered, they were almost in tears.
"Vesey! Vesey, are you all right?"
Of course, Vesey was fine.
There was a thick layer of plants underneath, so she hadn’t been hurt at all.
However, she still lay there silently for two seconds.
After gaining a considerable number of Energy Points, she pretended to be slightly dizzy and shouted,
"I’m fine, Brother! There are plants underneath. It doesn’t hurt. Just jump down!"
Even though she said that, when Harry jumped down, Vesey caught him with her wand.
In her own words, she had still been slightly hurt when she jumped down, and she didn’t want Harry and the others to feel any pain either.
After everyone landed safely on the plants, Vesey stepped over them and walked directly into the passage ahead.
She illuminated the tip of her wand and examined the area.
But after only a few moments, she heard Harry and Ron shouting.
"Oh my God, what is this?"
"I can’t move!"
Harry and Ron were wrapped in a mass of vines.
The more they struggled, the tighter the vines became.
Because Vesey had helped Hermione down this time, Hermione had also forgotten to look at the ground beneath her feet, and she too became entangled.
"This is Devil’s Snare! Don’t struggle!"
Hermione shouted.
Harry quickly cried out, "Then think of a way to get us out! We’re going to suffocate!"
"But I still need to think about how to get rid of it..."
She didn’t have to think for long.
Vesey raised her wand between them.
Bright light burst from its tip and illuminated the Devil’s Snare.
The vines immediately recoiled and pulled away.
Harry and the others were finally able to breathe freely and pull themselves out.
"Yes! I remember now! Devil’s Snare is afraid of light and heat!"
Hermione shouted, slapping her forehead.
Ron said sarcastically, "By the time you remembered, we might have already been dead!"
Hermione ignored him and instead looked at Vesey admiringly.
"Vesey, you’re amazing! Not only did you avoid getting caught by the Devil’s Snare, you drove it away so quickly!"
A faint blush appeared on Vesey’s face.
She looked embarrassed and said,
"It’s nothing. Actually, it was my fault. I should have noticed it earlier, but when I came out, I forgot about it. It was Hermione who reminded me that it was Devil’s Snare..."
[Ding, Energy Points +10]
[Ding, Energy Points +10]
[Ding, Energy Points +10]
Harry and the others were helpless.
It was obviously Vesey who had saved them, yet she always felt that everything was her fault.
What a simple, silly little sister!
Harry sighed inwardly and decided that he would give Vesey a big hug when they got back.
"Where do we go next?"
Harry and the others looked around.
Vesey pointed ahead with her wand.
"This way. I can see a path over here."
In fact, it was the only path available.
They immediately headed in that direction.
The sound of dripping water echoed around them.
"Did you hear that?" Harry asked.
He didn’t really need to ask. Everyone had heard it.
It was the rustling sound of countless wings beating together.
After walking a little farther, they finally saw the source.
They entered a tall room with an extremely high ceiling. Countless bird-like creatures were flying around above them, their wings constantly fluttering.
A gem-like glimmer could be seen whenever their wings spread.
But they soon discovered that these weren’t birds at all.
They were keys with wings.
They also saw another door not far away.
The door was tightly shut.
"Alomora!"
Vesey walked over first and tried the spell.
The door didn’t move.
She almost considered blasting it open, but after thinking about it, she gave up.
After all, a simple and kind-hearted little girl wouldn’t just blow up a door.
So she looked at the hundreds of flying keys and said, "It seems the second level is to find a key, use it to open the door, and then enter the next room."
Harry and the others suddenly understood.
"But with so many keys, which one are we supposed to get?"
Ron looked at the hundreds of keys in confusion, his expression displaying his usual bewilderment.
"That one!"
Vesey immediately pointed toward the ceiling.
It was a key with drooping wings, as though someone had roughly grabbed it and then released it.
"I think so too!" Harry said belatedly.
"But how are we supposed to get up there?"
Before Hermione could finish speaking, she noticed a row of broomsticks nearby.
"Looks like we’re supposed to ride the brooms and catch the key!"
Vesey walked over and picked up a broom.
Harry and the others looked at her worriedly.
Vesey was afraid of heights. Would she really be all right?
Of course, Vesey was afraid of heights.
But after becoming a witch, it wasn’t actually that serious anymore. She simply avoided riding broomsticks whenever possible.
Mainly because she didn’t want to ride that pink broom.
That thing was a nightmare!
Of course, she couldn’t tell Harry and the others that.
She thought for a moment, then said with a pale face,
"I’m still afraid, but if we delay any longer, the bad guy might get the Philosopher’s Stone. I’ll never let him take it away. I’ll protect it with my life."
