Chapter 102 — Someone Always Has to Sacrifice
Her firm voice silenced Harry and the others, and brought dozens of Energy Points to Vesey.
Fortunately, Harry and the others still remembered that now was not the time to be moved to tears, so they hurried over to Vesey and each grabbed a broomstick.
Almost as soon as Vesey got on her broom, she aimed at the target and rushed toward it.
Before taking off, she used a little Energy to raise her Flying talent to the genius level, which made her flying almost as good as Harry’s.
Almost.
However, because Vesey had gotten a head start and had sharp eyes, she reached the flying key a little faster than Harry.
She grabbed it.
Then she rushed toward the door with the key.
She inserted it into the keyhole.
The door opened.
Vesey immediately flew inside on her broom.
Harry and the others hurried in after her.
The door closed behind them.
Fortunately, they could hear the sound of countless keys striking against the door, as though they were trying to find them.
"Vesey flies really well. I think if she weren’t afraid of heights, Harry, you definitely wouldn’t be able to beat her!"
Ron landed on the ground and said in amazement.
Harry nodded.
From the beginning, he had felt that Vesey was incredibly talented and powerful.
"Look!"
Vesey suddenly shouted.
Harry and the others quickly turned around, only to realize that they were standing on a gigantic chessboard.
The chess pieces around them were all black, made of black stone, and were much larger than they were.
Opposite them were the white chess pieces.
Harry tried to walk toward the other side, but a white chess piece blocked his path with a sword.
"What are we supposed to do now?"
Harry swallowed nervously.
Vesey laughed.
"Isn’t it simple? As long as we win the chess game, we can get through!"
That had to be it.
After all, there was a door behind the white chess pieces.
Ron walked over to a knight and touched its horse. The horse seemed to be alive and neighed.
"Should we go with you?"
The knight nodded.
Everything was clear.
They had to play the game properly.
Vesey suddenly said, "Ron, don’t compete with me. I think I’m already better at chess than you, so I should play this game!"
Ron nodded.
He thought so too.
Vesey smiled.
"Brother, stand next to the bishop and take the bishop’s place. Hermione, you take the place of the rook. Ron, you take the place of the knight!"
She arranged everyone’s positions.
They all looked at her.
"What about you?"
Vesey pointed toward the queen behind them.
"I’ll be the queen!"
As soon as Vesey finished speaking, all the chess pieces she had pointed to moved away, leaving them standing in their respective positions.
"According to the rules of chess, White moves first!"
Ron said.
Sure enough, the white pawn on the opposite side moved two squares forward.
"Brother, move four squares to the right and forward!"
The other side moved.
Vesey looked at Hermione.
"Hermione, move forward..."
"Ron, to your left..."
She directed them one by one.
At first, Harry and the others were only worried about what would happen if they lost.
It wasn’t until they saw one of the knights being smashed to pieces by the White Queen that they realized how serious the situation was.
With that kind of attack power, if one of them were hit, they might actually be killed.
Vesey also showed a look of shock and fear. She appeared even more nervous, but she continued directing everyone to move quickly.
"We’re almost there!"
Vesey said with a sigh of relief.
Then she directed Harry to move forward.
"Smash that knight!"
Harry kicked the White knight.
The chess piece fell apart.
Vesey was just about to speak when Ron suddenly said in a trembling voice,
"No! You can’t use that move. Are you crazy? You’ll die!"
In fact, even Harry and Hermione could see it without Ron saying anything.
If they wanted to win, they had to let the White Queen capture Vesey.
Harry and Hermione looked at Vesey in horror.
Vesey sighed.
"Brother, someone has to sacrifice themselves. When it’s my turn, I won’t hide.
"I just want to stop Voldemort from coming back and avenge our parents.
"So wait for the White Queen to kill me. Then Ron can take the White King!"
[Ding, Energy Points +10]
[Ding, Energy Points +10]
[Ding, Energy Points +10]
[Ding, Energy Points +10]
[Ding, Base Points +]
Vesey was surprised.
Why were there five notifications when only three people were involved?
Could it be that Harry had been counted twice?
It wasn’t impossible.
"But what about you?!"
Harry’s eyes turned red as he shouted in fear.
Vesey shook her head and looked frightened.
"It should be fine, Brother. Think about it. I’m very powerful. I already told you about my wand’s abilities, so it shouldn’t..."
She walked toward the White Queen.
The White Queen raised her right hand and struck Vesey on the head.
Vesey pointed her wand at herself.
With a loud bang, the White Queen shattered.
Harry and the others were about to celebrate when they saw Vesey also collapse to the ground, her face pale.
She lay completely still, looking as though she were dead.
"Vesey!"
Hermione screamed.
Harry was already about to rush over.
But Ron shouted at them.
"Stop! Don’t let Vesey’s sacrifice go to waste!"
He moved toward the White King.
The White King dropped his crown, and the door behind him opened.
Only then did Harry and Hermione rush toward Vesey.
Harry placed his trembling hand beneath Vesey’s nose.
When he felt her faint breathing, he finally breathed a sigh of relief. He hugged Vesey and began to cry.
"Harry, the door is almost closed!"
Hermione suddenly cried out in alarm.
Harry carefully placed Vesey down.
"Let’s go first. Vesey wants revenge. We can’t let her down!"
They quickly ran toward the door.
They couldn’t let Vesey’s sacrifice be in vain.
After Vesey waited for them to leave, she was about to get up and stretch when she suddenly felt two people appear beside her.
It was Snape and Dumbledore.
If she hadn’t been strong-willed, the sudden appearance of the two of them might have frightened her enough to expose herself.
Only then did she remember the extra Energy Points.
They must have been given to her by these two people.
So Energy Points could actually detect how many people were nearby!
Vesey thought excitedly.
But she immediately noticed the situation she was in.
Snape was clearly about to anxiously check her condition.
Vesey knew that her current state could not be hidden from Snape’s examination, so she quickly used Energy.
She felt helpless.
Originally, she had planned to send Harry and the others through the trials, then find a comfortable place to sit and read novels or watch TV.
Who would have thought that Dumbledore and Snape would actually be here?
But thinking about it, it was normal.
After all, it really was miraculous that Harry had managed to survive Voldemort’s attack. Without Dumbledore, that would have been impossible.
Vesey had simply assumed that Dumbledore would be waiting in the final room.
Who would have thought he had been following them all along?
After figuring out the whole situation, she continued lying on the ground and pretending to be unconscious.
Snape checked her condition and breathed a sigh of relief.
Vesey hadn’t created anything too serious for herself—just nervousness, fear, and exhaustion.
Even so, Snape was still somewhat angry.
Dumbledore could only look at him helplessly.
He sighed and said, "Severus, this isn’t my fault. I never asked this child to get involved. It was her..."
Snape was still seething.
And it was understandable.
When he discovered that Vesey hadn’t returned to her dormitory that night and that Peeves was still wandering around the castle with his mouth gagged, he immediately realized that Vesey and the others must have come here.
He rushed over at once.
By the time he arrived, Vesey and the others had already entered the chamber.
Snape wanted to take Vesey away immediately and deduct a thousand points from Gryffindor, but Dumbledore stopped him.
"Oh, Severus, as long as we’re here, nothing will happen to them. Besides, this is the only way to defeat Tom. Harry and Vesey need to face Voldemort, and they need to grow stronger!"
