Chapter Twenty-Seven: Oh my god, I forgot!
After finishing the discussion about Hermione, Vesey glanced out the window.
It was completely dark outside. Only the black-and-purple forest and the faint outlines of the mountains could be seen.
The train gradually began to slow down.
"In five minutes, the train will arrive at the station. Everyone, please leave your luggage on the train. It will be delivered to the school for you."
The announcement echoed throughout the train.
Vesey noticed that Harry and Ron’s faces had turned pale. They looked nervous.
She wanted to laugh, but managed to hold it back.
Fortunately, the train came to a complete stop shortly afterward.
The compartments became noisy as students pushed and shoved their way toward the doors.
Vesey picked up her wand and walked toward the train exit, surrounded by Harry and Ron.
They stepped out into the darkness.
A large lantern swayed above their heads.
"It’s Hagrid!"
Harry exclaimed in surprise.
Hagrid lowered the lantern and finally got a clear look at Harry and Vesey standing beside him.
"Harry, is this Vesey?"
Hagrid had been extremely busy lately, mainly helping collect the Muggle-born students arriving at Hogwarts. He had some free time in the evenings, but he couldn’t exactly return to the hospital wing to visit Vesey in the middle of the night.
No matter how careless Hagrid was, he wouldn’t go bother a sleeping little girl at night.
So this was the first time Hagrid had actually met Vesey.
He had heard Madam Pomfrey say that Vesey was extremely beautiful and adorable, but Hagrid had always assumed Pomfrey was exaggerating.
After all, Hagrid also liked to exaggerate when talking about Harry’s appearance. In his eyes, Harry was the cutest child in the world.
But now, even with Hagrid’s fondness for Harry, he couldn’t honestly say Harry was cuter than Vesey.
Especially when the little girl looked up at him with those watery green eyes, Hagrid had no choice but to admit that Vesey was even more adorable and lovable than Harry.
Hagrid immediately abandoned all his preconceived notions.
The giant looked at Vesey gently.
"Vesey, can you walk? Or would you like to sit on my shoulders?"
Vesey’s heart stirred.
She wasn’t wearing a skirt like the other girls, so she wasn’t worried about accidentally exposing anything.
And she remembered that it was still quite a long way to Hogwarts!
But after thinking about it, she still refused Hagrid.
Damn this obedient, sensible, gentle, well-behaved persona of mine!
"No, Hagrid. I’m heavy. I’ll crush you. I can walk by myself!"
She deliberately sounded especially disappointed.
Hagrid’s eyes softened.
He shook his beard and laughed loudly.
"Good girl! How could you possibly crush me? Look at me, then look at yourself. In my eyes, you’re nothing more than a little kitten!"
Vesey was about to say a few more words of refusal when Hagrid reached out and lifted her onto his shoulder.
"Wow, Hagrid, you’re so tall!"
she exclaimed loudly.
She had deliberately chosen those words.
Simply praising Hagrid for being strong or powerful wouldn’t be appropriate. It might even touch upon one of his insecurities. Hagrid had always felt inferior because he was a half-giant, much like how Lupin was troubled by his own condition.
But praising him for being tall was different.
Who would a child consider the tallest person in the world?
Naturally, it would be the elders closest to them.
So by telling Hagrid that he was tall, Vesey was deliberately drawing herself closer to him.
Even if Hagrid didn’t consciously realize it, he would still feel happy hearing it.
Sure enough, Hagrid’s eyes narrowed with delight.
"Good girl. Let’s go!"
Hagrid carried Vesey in his arms and began striding forward.
He reached the river in practically no time at all. Then he looked at the empty boats and suddenly remembered the students he was supposed to be bringing over.
"Oh my God, I forgot!"
Hagrid slapped his forehead.
He had no choice but to let Vesey sit in one of the boats first while he went back to collect the students.
Vesey immediately looked embarrassed.
"I’m sorry, Hagrid! It’s all my fault. I should have reminded you!"
Her words stunned Hagrid for a moment, and then his eyes filled with pity.
He bent down and patted Vesey’s head with his enormous hand.
Vesey quickly turned her body slightly.
If Hagrid’s giant hand landed directly on her head, she was afraid she might end up with a concussion.
The next second, she was even more grateful for her decision.
When Hagrid’s enormous hand landed on her shoulder, half of her body went numb.
"Don’t worry, Vesey. I’ll be right back!"
he shouted.
Then he ran off with a thunderous boom.
Vesey sighed helplessly.
Bored, she lay back in the boat and looked up at the stars.
Originally, she thought it would take Hagrid quite a while to return.
To her surprise, it wasn’t long before Hagrid came back with a group of panting first-years.
"All right, get into the boats! Four people to a boat!"
Hagrid shouted.
Then he looked at Vesey.
"Have you been waiting long? These first-years are all moving too slowly. Otherwise, we’d have been back sooner."
He looked at the students with some dissatisfaction.
The first-years stared at Hagrid in stunned silence.
Didn’t they work hard enough?
Hagrid had practically made them run all the way here, and he actually had the nerve to complain that they were too slow?
Even Ron pulled at his robes, which had fallen into the dirt along the way and were now covered in dust.
Seeing everyone’s miserable expressions, Vesey rubbed her forehead.
She didn’t want to offend the entire first-year class on her very first day, so she had no choice but to pull out her wand.
"Scourgify!"
Everyone’s robes were instantly cleaned.
Vesey immediately put on an embarrassed expression.
"I’m sorry. Hagrid was worried that I would be frightened sitting here alone, so he rushed everyone over. It’s all because of me. I apologize to everyone!"
As soon as she said this, everyone’s attention turned toward her.
At first, the students had been quite angry. After all, they were supposed to be starting school, yet they had been dragged through the dirt and ended up filthy. Naturally, nobody was happy about it.
But Vesey had cleaned their clothes and shoes for them, and she had apologized so sincerely that their anger immediately disappeared.
Besides, Vesey was so cute and beautiful.
Not only did the boys have no complaints about her, even the girls felt that getting angry with such a cute little sister would be rather unreasonable.
And besides, Hagrid was the one who had rushed them over.
What did any of this have to do with Vesey?
