Chapter Thirty-Two: The Social Death Segment

Vesey was stunned.

She had been interested in girls before because she thought they were pretty and looked a little like the characters from the games she used to play before her transmigration.

She hadn’t expected it to actually be Cassandra.

"Slytherin!"

The Sorting Hat shouted the moment it touched Cassandra’s hair.

Cassandra proudly walked over. She glanced around before sitting down on the other side of Vesey.

She didn’t greet anyone, nor did she even look at Vesey, as though she hadn’t been the girl talking to her earlier.

Vesey didn’t care either.

Everyone knew that the Potter family had always been associated with Gryffindor, and Harry had even defeated Voldemort. It could practically be said that the entire family was devoted to fighting Dark magic.

Yet she, the little righteous girl, had ended up in Slytherin.

Not only was Gryffindor shocked. Even the Slytherins were confused.

Vesey understood the reason perfectly.

She knew nobody would dare approach her right now. The Slytherins would first contact their families and find out what they thought.

Slytherin would definitely observe her for a while before deciding how to treat her.

So for now, Vesey focused her emotions on the food in front of her.

She really wanted to eat.

She was starving!

It was strange. She had clearly eaten a lot on the train, yet the moment she arrived at Hogwarts, she was hungry again.

But she wasn’t the only one.

Vesey noticed that even Malfoy couldn’t help swallowing hard.

Perhaps sensing everyone’s hunger, Dumbledore stood up and spread his arms as though he were about to embrace the entire hall.

"Welcome to Hogwarts, everyone!"

he said loudly.

For an old man, he certainly looked more energetic than Vesey.

"Before the feast begins, I only have a few words to say to you: idiots, snivellers, scum, screw you! Thank you, everyone!"

Then he sat down.

The Great Hall erupted into applause, along with laughter from a few students.

Vesey had sharp eyes and immediately noticed that Malfoy was laughing too.

He was laughing together with Harry!

Will those two really end up having an affair?

Vesey rested her chin on her hand and stared at Malfoy and Harry.

Until a potato hit her squarely on the nose.

"Wow!"

Even Vesey couldn’t help screaming.

Weight-gain package!

Sure enough, there was a reason foreigners got fat.

With food this good and this abundant, it would be strange not to gain weight.

She sincerely hoped the system would eventually give her some ability to avoid getting fat.

Otherwise, if she kept eating like this, she might end up eating away her own beauty.

No matter how pretty her face was, gaining weight would still affect her appearance.

She couldn’t imagine Snape happily doting on a chubby Lily clone.

But that was a problem for the future.

Vesey quickly picked up a piece of steak and began eating.

Then she noticed Cassandra taking a piece of chicken.

The relief on Cassandra’s face was almost visible.

"I don’t know why, but there was nobody selling food on the train today," Pansy complained softly to the students beside her. "I asked the conductor, and they said someone had bought up all the food and snacks."

Vesey’s hand froze.

So Snape bought out all the snacks on the entire train for me?

No wonder...

She had wondered why she hadn’t seen the snack trolley even once during the journey.

She had thought Hermione must have somehow spread the word about the huge amount of food she had, and that the witch selling snacks had realized she wouldn’t make any money in their compartment and simply stopped coming.

Who would have thought Snape had bought everything?

No wonder Malfoy and the others had tried to steal their snacks during the fight.

No wonder everyone looked like they were starving.

No wonder...

Vesey hurriedly lowered her head and began eating, terrified that everyone would discover she was responsible for the entire school’s lack of food.

Fortunately, nobody suspected Vesey had anything to do with it.

Even Harry and the others had no idea.

When Vesey glanced over, Harry was still listening to the students discussing their family backgrounds.

Vesey had originally thought Slytherin would be very quiet.

But after arriving, she discovered that Slytherin wasn’t quiet at all.

They were simply talking in whispers.

Everyone spoke quietly, as though afraid someone might overhear them.

They kept gossiping while maintaining solemn expressions, as if terrified that anyone might discover they weren’t actually as noble and reserved as they pretended to be.

Vesey glanced at Cassandra.

She had originally wanted to see what the girl’s cool and elegant image looked like when it was shattered.

Instead, she found Cassandra eating rapidly while maintaining an elegant expression.

All right.

So this is what she looks like when she’s absolutely starving.

Vesey looked around at everyone’s faces for a while before lowering her head and continuing to eat her steak.

Thanks to Snape’s nutritional potions, she no longer had the tiny, bird-like appetite she once had.

Her appetite was now comparable to that of some boys.

She was practically a half-grown child living in poverty.

After finishing one steak, two chicken legs, a serving of potato salad, and a slice of jam cake, she got herself another ice cream.

By the time she slowly finished the ice cream, the food on the tables began disappearing.

Dumbledore stood up again.

"Very good. Everyone has eaten and drunk their fill. Now, let me announce a few things."

"First-years, listen carefully. Students are forbidden from entering the Forbidden Forest on school grounds. Some older students should remember that as well!"

Dumbledore deliberately glanced at Fred and George.

The two immediately burst out laughing.

"Also, Mr. Filch has asked me to remind everyone not to cast spells in the corridors. He has prepared hundreds of ways to punish students who do."

Dumbledore glanced at Filch and twitched the corner of his mouth.

Apparently, even Dumbledore was somewhat shocked by this.

Filch, however, didn’t look embarrassed in the slightest.

His sinister gaze swept across the students’ faces, making the threat feel even more terrifying.

Dumbledore shook his head.

He continued helplessly, "The Quidditch team tryouts will be..."

Finally, he said, "I want to remind everyone that if you don’t want to die a horrible death, please stay away from the end of the corridor on the third floor."

Vesey heard Harry burst into laughter before quickly stopping himself.

She smiled back.

It seems Dumbledore is still following the original plot.

"All right. Before everyone goes to bed, let’s sing the school song together!"

Dumbledore announced loudly.

Then he waved his wand.

The lyrics to the Hogwarts school song appeared before everyone, accompanied by a ribbon-like musical score.

"Get ready. Sing!"

Vesey: "?"

Vesey: "!"

Is this the social-death segment?!
