Chapter Thirty-Three: This kid can’t take a beating, can he?

Vesey quickly realized that this really had happened in the original story.

She opened her mouth, hesitated for a moment, then pretended to be sincere and started singing along.

What else could she do?

She was desperate too!

Fortunately, everyone was singing, so she wasn’t the only one making a fool of herself. At least she could maintain her obedient and well-behaved persona.

After Vesey finished singing, the Great Hall gradually fell silent.

Eventually, only Fred and George were still singing.

The two brothers sang a funeral march while Dumbledore conducted for them.

When they finally finished, Dumbledore wiped his eyes and said emotionally, "Music! It’s more charming than anything else we do here!"

After saying that, his gaze fell on Vesey.

Vesey looked at him in confusion.

Of course, she quickly responded with a cute smile.

What does this old Riddler mean?

Why is he looking at me?

Could throwing a cup be some kind of sign of success?

Vesey wondered to herself.

But Dumbledore merely glanced at her, smiled, nodded, and looked away.

Then Vesey noticed that Dumbledore turned his attention toward Snape again and winked at him.

A rare blush appeared on Snape’s face.

Vesey’s heart stirred.

I think I understand.

Is Dumbledore teasing Snape about buying all those snacks?

Although she wanted to laugh too, she immediately put on a blank expression for the sake of her persona, pretending not to have noticed anything.

"All right. Everyone can return to your dormitories and rest."

Dumbledore announced.

Vesey didn’t immediately follow the Slytherins.

Instead, she turned around and looked for Harry.

After confirming that Harry had already left with the Gryffindors, she secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

At least she didn’t have to pretend to stick with Harry all the way into the night.

Of course, she still put on a slightly disappointed expression.

Then she quickly perked up and followed the Slytherins toward the dungeons.

The Hogwarts dungeons extended deep underground.

From the windows of the common room, the lake could actually be seen.

A few fish even swam curiously past the glass.

Vesey pressed her hand against the window.

Several fish were startled and quickly swam away.

She grinned happily.

But as she was enjoying herself, she suddenly noticed that the common room had become extremely quiet.

Vesey turned around.

Snape was standing in the middle of the common room, with the students gathered around him in a semicircle.

And now, everyone’s eyes were on her.

Vesey blushed slightly and hurried over to join the group.

The students around her were quite sympathetic.

Everyone knew that Professor Snape was terrifying.

Even Slytherin students weren’t spared when they did something wrong.

At least Slytherins didn’t have to worry about Snape deducting House points from them like students from other Houses did, but detention was still frightening enough.

Seeing how small and delicate Vesey looked, they all felt that she would definitely cry if Snape scolded her.

But to everyone’s surprise, Snape wasn’t angry.

He didn’t even comment on Vesey arriving late.

He simply pretended he hadn’t noticed and said, "As usual, the winner of the duel will become the prefect for their year."

Vesey hesitated.

In fanfiction, she had read that Slytherins had to duel at the beginning of every school year, after which the prefects would lead the students to class, eat with them, and...

In short, being a prefect was basically being a nanny.

There might be some privileges, such as being able to complain directly to professors.

But none of that appealed to Vesey.

She didn’t want to work at all.

So she turned to Snape for help.

Snape seemed to notice her gaze.

He stared at her for a moment, his eyes filled with nostalgia.

After a while, he calmly looked away.

"If any student doesn’t wish to participate in the prefect selection, they may return directly to their dormitory."

Return to the dormitory?

Vesey’s eyes immediately lit up.

It wasn’t merely because she didn’t have to become a prefect.

More importantly, this was the first time in both of her lives that she was going to share a dormitory with girls.

Although she was now a girl herself—and a very beautiful one at that—how could she not be excited about getting to watch other girls every day?

The joy was almost overwhelming.

Snape couldn’t help sighing inwardly.

Why is this child exactly like her mother?

They were both so indifferent to fame and status.

Even becoming a prefect didn’t interest them.

While the other students had been eagerly preparing themselves for the prefect selection, Vesey looked as though she might jump for joy the moment she heard she could return to her dormitory.

Snape shook his head helplessly.

Then he glanced at the other Slytherin girls.

He didn’t think Vesey’s future wife would come from among these girls.

Most Slytherin girls already had their own families, and they certainly wouldn’t be taking care of Vesey.

In fact, he was worried about what the girls might do to her.

Vesey was so young and well-behaved. If she were bullied, she would probably just crawl into bed and cry.

The thought alone made Snape’s fists involuntarily tighten.

Seeing the smile on Vesey’s face, however, he calmed down.

He said evenly, "Miss Potter has a separate dormitory. Does anyone object?"

Vesey: "???"

Why?!

I object! I have a very big objection!

But before she could say anything, a girl glared angrily at Vesey and shouted, "Why does Potter get a dormitory to herself? I don’t agree!"

Snape’s eyes narrowed dangerously.

The students from the older years immediately moved away from the girl.

Is there something wrong with her?

In Slytherin, Snape practically ruled everything.

After all, he was a renowned Potions Master, and many Slytherin families begged him to brew potions for them.

Their families had warned them repeatedly not to offend Snape.

Even families as influential as the Malfoys and Bulstrodes did everything they could to maintain a good relationship with him.

Had this girl’s family never warned her?

Why was she acting crazy?

Wasn’t she afraid of Snape retaliating against her?

After realizing that everyone around her had moved away, the girl finally understood the seriousness of the situation.

Her face turned pale.

"Professor, I..."

"Millicent, isn’t it?"

Snape’s voice was dangerously calm.

"It seems this young lady needs a detention. Of course, I will also write to Mr. Bulstrode and inform him of Miss Millicent’s behavior."
