Hogwarts Diary: Snape Goes Crazy

Chapter Forty-One: Hermione’s Angry
Vesey looked at her current Energy Points.
After adding the 500 Energy Points rewarded by the diary this time, she still had a little over 600 points left.
She hesitated for a moment before adding 100 points each to Transfiguration, Charms, Dark Arts, Potions, and Herbology.
At the very least, she needed the Talents for these subjects to reach the level of an ordinary wizard.
Otherwise, the way she wanted to fall asleep whenever she saw those magic textbooks was simply too far removed from the character she had created for herself.
She then used more than twenty Energy Points to study all the textbooks she had bought and the other books she needed to read.
Now she felt much more comfortable reading them.
After all, once she actually understood the material, even ordinary magical theory became easy enough to grasp with her improved Talents.
In the end, she kept more than a hundred Energy Points in reserve for emergencies.
It felt great to use them, and it felt even better to be able to read a book without suffering.
That night, Vesey dreamed that a girl had rejected her.
So much so that when she woke up the next morning, she still felt a little aggrieved.
She could only clench her fists and tell herself:
Believe in yourself. If you believe you can do it, you’ll succeed!
On this day, they had two subjects: Herbology and Defense Against the Dark Arts.
Vesey thought Herbology was quite pleasant.
Professor Sprout had a gentle temperament and rarely got angry with anyone. She even liked bringing snacks for everyone.
The only thing Vesey couldn’t stand was Defense Against the Dark Arts.
The moment she entered the classroom, she almost failed to maintain her persona.
She nearly shouted.
What the hell is Quirrell doing?
If he wants to, he could just bring Voldemort to class openly!
Why does he have to launch such a personal attack?
There were quite a few people who felt the same way as Vesey.
The Slytherins even stood outside the classroom for a long time before finally walking in with grim expressions.
Quirrell pretended not to notice how disgusted they were and deliberately showed off his large turban, claiming that it had been given to him by an African prince.
It was supposedly a gift to repay him for driving away a resurrected corpse.
But when Seamus from Gryffindor asked him how he had defeated the resurrected corpse, Quirrell stammered and couldn’t give a useful answer.
To be honest, Vesey thought the whole lesson was a joke.
Quirrell spent the entire class reading from the textbook.
Vesey suddenly regretted spending 100 Energy Points on Dark Arts Talent the previous night.
I spent a hundred Energy Points just to listen to Quirrell read a textbook?
She had always thought the original story had exaggerated how useless Quirrell was.
After all, although Quirrell himself was useless, Voldemort was literally attached to the back of his head!
Who would have thought Voldemort wouldn’t even bother paying attention to Quirrell’s lessons?
Vesey sighed helplessly and could only begin fantasizing about whether there was some spell that could make her nose smell fresh air.
But after thinking about it for a long time, she shook her head in disappointment.
There was no such spell in the first-year textbooks.
She would probably have to look through the third- or fourth-year textbooks.
But there was no way she could simply run out of the classroom and search through upper-year textbooks now.
She gritted her teeth and used a little Energy to exchange for a spell that allowed her to breathe fresh air.
After casting it on herself, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She had actually wanted to stuff some toilet paper into her nostrils like the others, but she felt that doing so would not fit her character.
What kind-hearted person would dislike a sick professor?
Throw the table!
Why did I create such a terrible character for myself back then?
But when she thought about it, if she had created a different personality, Dumbledore might have become even more suspicious of her.
In the end, she could only suppress her helplessness.
No matter what, she could now look respectfully at Quirrell without letting her eyes wander and listen to his stammering reading.
Finally, when Quirrell walked out of the classroom, Vesey received admiring looks from many Slytherins and Gryffindors.
After all, Hermione—the only other student who had listened attentively to the entire lesson without hiding her disgust—was already feeling sick from the smell.
Yet Vesey had somehow emerged from the classroom looking completely energetic.
In the eyes of the students, she was definitely an extraordinary person.
Although Vesey didn’t want to become famous for something like this at all.
Wednesday’s classes were Charms and History of Magic.
When Professor Flitwick called the names of Vesey and Harry, he fell over in an exaggerated fashion, just like in the original story.
It was Vesey who rushed over and helped him up.
Professor Flitwick happily awarded Slytherin five points.
The History of Magic professor was Cuthbert Binns.
He was a ghost.
And he was also busy reading his own lecture notes during class.
Vesey was very glad she hadn’t spent any Energy Points increasing her Talent in this subject.
It was enough to use Energy to read the textbook.
In any case, Vesey had now been at Hogwarts for almost a week.
The professors all regarded her as a genius.
No matter what questions they asked, Vesey could answer clearly and logically. She could even connect material from the first Chapter all the way to the last.
Every professor assumed that Vesey must have worked extremely hard in private.
They thought she had probably read all the books and memorized their contents.
Hermione, who had actually memorized the entire textbook herself, was completely overshadowed by Vesey’s brilliance.
Whenever the professors called Vesey a genius, they would merely add that Hermione was also a hardworking and studious child.
This gave Hermione a powerful desire to compete with Vesey.
In every class, she would compete with Vesey to answer questions, as though proving that she was the top student could somehow settle the matter.
Harry and Ron were both dissatisfied with Hermione’s behavior.
They even wanted to teach her a lesson.
But Vesey immediately stopped them.
"This is healthy competition. Besides, anyone can answer the professor’s questions. If I bully Hermione over something like this, what’s the difference between me and the children at the orphanage?"
Her words not only made Harry and Ron feel guilty, but also made the other students and professors think even more highly of her.
They praised Vesey even more for being so tolerant of Hermione.
This only made Hermione angrier.
She refused to say a single word to Vesey whenever she entered or left the classroom.
Vesey, however, would still greet her.
After all, she normally wouldn’t miss an opportunity to maintain the character she had created for herself.
This behavior quickly became known throughout the school.
Vesey’s habit of proactively greeting someone she was supposedly enemies with became a topic of discussion among the students over the next couple of days.
It was almost like the famous tale of Xiao He pursuing Han Xin beneath the moon—a story that had practically become an idiom.
If Hermione had been the kind of person who paid close attention to her classmates, she would have realized that this bastard Vesey was actually using her to build her own reputation.
What’s even more tragic was that if Hermione eventually reconciled with Vesey, everyone would say that Hermione had been moved by Vesey’s kindness and finally became her friend.
But if Hermione never reconciled with Vesey, the rumor would become that stingy Hermione had turned against the kind-hearted Vesey simply to compete for the reputation of being the top student.
She had refused to change despite repeated admonitions and had eventually been beheaded...
Alas, there was no last sentence.
