Chapter Forty: A Talent That Was Like a Dog’s

Werewolves were actually much better.

After all, werewolves were fairly predictable. They only came out during the full moon.

Vampires were a different matter. They could disguise themselves and come out to drink human blood at any time.

Of course, there were plenty of good vampires too. They would rather buy blood in the Muggle world or drain animals than drink from other people.

But there were also many vampires who deliberately drank human blood and injected their own blood into their victims, turning them into vampires.

Fortunately, wizards now had some preventive potions. If someone drank one within two hours of being bitten by a vampire, they wouldn’t be transformed.

But it was always difficult to react in time.

The Ministry of Magic could only try to deal with the problem beforehand.

Or recruit them.

Either way, it was a real headache.

Muggles and wizards had joined forces several times to hunt vampires. The vampires still alive today were therefore not particularly reckless.

It was just difficult for them to live openly.

After all, you could never know what was in someone’s heart. Who would willingly have anything to do with a vampire?

If Vesey handed over this potion formula now, she could probably obtain the Order of Merlin.

If Dumbledore worked hard on her behalf, even a First Class Order of Merlin might not be impossible.

The question was, why would Vesey research such a potion?

She could brag about doing it for the stability of the wizarding world, but she was still too young. Such an explanation would inevitably sound false and empty.

And no one would believe that she had actually developed it herself.

Unless a vampire attacked someone in the wizarding world, and the victim happened to be someone close to Vesey.

For that person, Vesey might plausibly find a way to develop such a potion.

Of course, it would be best to wait until Vesey had become somewhat famous in the wizarding world before doing that.

Thinking about it, Vesey immediately gave up on the idea of handing over the formula now.

After all, if she wanted to establish some fame in the wizarding world, she would probably need another year or two to lay the groundwork.

Take it easy!

After all, she had only just arrived at Hogwarts.

Vesey comforted herself.

In the afternoon, she went to play with Harry and the others.

She had to admit, playing with boys as a girl felt surprisingly good.

The only unpleasant thing was that whenever Hermione passed by her, she would give a disdainful snort, as though the two of them had some enormous grudge.

Vesey was rather confused.

Hermione obviously had a very high level of trust in the diary, so why did she look at Vesey as though she were her mortal enemy?

"Don’t worry about her. She’s just like that. On the first day of school, she doesn’t have any friends!"

Ron said mockingly.

However, under Vesey’s disapproving gaze, he gave up on saying anything bad about Hermione.

They played until dinner, then went their separate ways.

While eating, Vesey noticed that Cassandra, sitting beside her, seemed to want to say something.

But Vesey was tired from playing and didn’t feel like talking to Cassandra.

She would never admit that she was afraid Cassandra would pull another jewel-encrusted crown out of her pocket.

She had nearly been frightened to death that morning.

Seeing Cassandra’s hand slip into her pocket made Vesey feel a little nervous.

To her surprise, however, Cassandra didn’t take anything out during dinner.

Vesey breathed a sigh of relief.

She also secretly swore that if Cassandra gave her something like that again, she would put on an even more pitiful performance next time.

She had to make sure Cassandra stopped bringing those things around.

Why is my life so miserable?

Vesey was thinking about this as she prepared to leave when she suddenly felt Cassandra slip a pink envelope into her pocket.

Vesey didn’t reject it.

In fact, she almost wanted to laugh.

She calmly returned to the dormitory, then immediately touched her pocket.

A love letter?

Vesey grinned.

She hadn’t expected to be so popular.

She’d received a love letter on her very first day of school...

But her smile disappeared as soon as she opened it.

Inside the pink envelope was a single sentence:

"Sorry!"

Vesey was speechless.

And here she had thought she was quite charming.

She tossed the envelope aside, lay down on the bed, and opened her Potions textbook.

She wondered what effect the Potion Talent bonus would have on her.

But after studying for a while, Vesey dejectedly closed the textbook.

No.

Although she now had Photographic Memory, she could only remember and memorize the contents. She couldn’t fully understand them.

Vesey suddenly felt that the System was playing tricks on her.

She had just received ten points of Potion Talent, and this was all the improvement she got?

It seemed to be somewhat better than her performance in Transfiguration.

But not by much.

It was basically the difference between laughing at someone who was fifty steps away and laughing at someone who was a hundred steps away.

[Ding! All wizarding abilities require talent. Even the host’s identity as a witch was granted by the System.]

Vesey suddenly understood.

Good grief.

So among wizards, I’m basically an academic idiot?

What she had said to Snape had actually been true?

What an idiot I am...

[Ding! The host may use Energy Points to exchange for Talent. One point of Energy equals one point of Talent.]

[Ding! For ordinary people, the maximum value of each Talent is 100. There is no upper limit for geniuses. The higher, the better.]

Vesey: "???"

System, just say it!

Are you trying to make sure I never become a man in this lifetime?

[Ding! Considering that the host has a strong desire to become male, the System believes it is better to tell the host a fact.]

[Although accumulating 300,000 Energy Points can turn the host into a male, this transformation is not permanent. A permanent transformation into a male requires 300 million Energy Points.]

[The host should think carefully. Instead of using Energy to become male, it would be better to wait for a System reward.]

Vesey was stunned.

What?

Three hundred million Energy Points to completely turn her into a man?

Why?

"How difficult is it to change gender?"

[Ding! In some games, if you want to change gender, you have to start a new character.]

Vesey always felt that the System was shamelessly making things difficult for her.

But now, she was somewhat less interested in using Energy to change her sex.

After all, even if she wanted to, accumulating 300 million Energy Points was simply impossible.

It would be better to use that Energy to exchange for Talents.

Maybe she could even develop potions herself!

She remembered that in the original story, Snape had mentioned potions that could prevent death.

Perhaps there was even a potion that could turn her into a man?

She could take her time.

After all, she was only eleven years old.

What was truly urgent now was probably her talent that was barely better than a dog’s.
