Chapter Forty-Eight: Fainted from Fright?
Vesey subconsciously spent some Energy Points to find out who had caused this, and the name she received was both surprising and expected.
Dumbledore.
Apparently, Dumbledore wanted to test her using Malfoy and Harry.
If she didn’t save Harry and the others, it would mean that she wasn’t as kind as the diary claimed.
It seemed that Vesey not having immediately rushed up on her broom to save Neville had made Dumbledore somewhat suspicious.
Vesey pouted.
Really, there’s no need to make such a big deal out of it.
She just wants to show off a little. Why is that so difficult?
Helpless, Vesey could only spend some Energy.
To her relief, a small amount of Energy allowed her to experience genius-level flying for half an hour.
That’s fairly cheap.
Vesey breathed a sigh of relief. Then she mounted her broom, kicked hard against the ground, and shot into the sky.
As she flew through the air, Vesey heard many people calling her name. They were probably shocked by what she was doing.
Vesey knew that Dumbledore was watching her at that moment. If she couldn’t dispel his suspicions, his trust in the diary would definitely drop considerably.
She exhaled and deliberately made her face pale.
Then she flew straight toward Harry and Malfoy and caught them both.
She held one person in each arm, and the broom suddenly sank under the extra weight.
Vesey bit her lip, making it look as though her hands were trembling with nervousness.
Then she lowered her head slightly and glanced down.
Her entire face became even paler.
She could only close her eyes and guide the broom downward by instinct.
Finally, her feet touched the ground.
Her legs immediately gave way, and she collapsed as though she had used up every last bit of her strength.
Harry quickly caught her.
"Vesey, are you all right?"
He had been terrified himself just moments ago, and he was relieved when Vesey caught him.
At first, he had been happy to see that Vesey seemed to have excellent flying talent.
But now he realized that Vesey’s entire face was deathly pale.
"Idiot!"
An angry voice suddenly rang out.
Then Vesey was snatched from Harry’s arms.
It was Snape.
He immediately called for a stretcher, placed Vesey on it, and began running.
Harry was stunned for a moment before quickly following.
He actually thought something serious had happened to Vesey and burst into tears.
Vesey had originally intended to pretend that she was frightened and lie on the ground for a while to make an impression on Dumbledore.
But who would have expected Snape to react like this?
She was startled herself.
I really want to jump up right now, grab Snape, and shake him hard.
What’s wrong with you? How did such a huge commotion come from something so trivial?
How was she supposed to act embarrassed in front of everyone at the hospital wing over something this minor?
And even if she forced herself to faint, there was no way Madam Pomfrey would tell everyone that she had fainted from fright, right?
Then her reputation would be ruined!
Vesey endured it for as long as she could before finally jumping off the stretcher.
She blinked a few times, pretending that she had just woken up, then shook her head.
"Brother, I’m fine... Professor?"
She put on a confused expression before sitting up from the stretcher as though she had suddenly realized what was happening.
She grabbed Snape’s sleeve.
"Professor, I’m fine!"
Put me down! Quickly!
Please!
She only wanted to maintain her persona. She didn’t want the entire school to know that she had been frightened senseless.
Snape saw that she had opened her eyes and finally let out a breath of relief.
He had merely glanced out the window earlier and seen Vesey riding a broom with a pale face to save Harry Potter and Malfoy.
He had immediately rushed over, terrified that something might happen to Vesey.
The child was obviously afraid of flying.
Yet even though he had hurried over as quickly as possible, he had still arrived in time to see Harry holding Vesey with her eyes closed.
For a moment, Snape had almost thought he had returned to the night Lily had died.
He had angrily snatched Vesey from Harry’s arms.
When he felt that Vesey was still breathing, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
But he was still worried.
He had imagined all the possible consequences.
He had even considered destroying Hogwarts if Vesey never woke up.
Fortunately...
Vesey had opened her eyes.
She looked a little weak and somewhat embarrassed.
Yet the eyes looking at him were as gentle as ever.
"Professor, can you put me down? I don’t want everyone to think I’m a coward."
Vesey looked at Snape hopefully.
Snape snorted.
He really wanted to scold this child.
Why did she have to save those two?
She had risked her own safety to save others and still didn’t care about herself?
But when he looked into those green eyes, Snape couldn’t bring himself to say anything.
He knew that this was Vesey’s kindness.
Her kindness would never allow her to simply watch someone else get hurt.
Snape relented.
He cast several diagnostic spells on Vesey and found that her complexion had returned to normal. He then waved his wand, lowering the stretcher to the ground.
Vesey breathed a sigh of relief.
Excellent.
As long as I don’t go to the hospital wing, I can come up with another explanation.
At least I won’t end up with a rumor that I fainted from fright.
Snape helped Vesey down and asked her about what had happened.
Vesey told him everything without hiding anything.
She deliberately added, "By the way, Professor, I always felt that something was wrong with my brother’s and Malfoy’s brooms. It seemed as though someone had tampered with them. Could you check them?"
She believed Snape would immediately think of Dumbledore.
And, sure enough, the moment Vesey mentioned this, Snape’s expression changed.
But when he saw the worried look on Vesey’s face, he forced himself to smile.
"Don’t be afraid. I’ll investigate."
With that, he turned and walked toward the Headmaster’s office with a cold expression.
Vesey watched Snape’s back and almost shouted for him to keep going.
It would be even better if he could beat Dumbledore up.
Not long after Snape left, Harry and the others arrived.
Harry’s lips were trembling with fear. The moment he saw Vesey, he rushed over and hugged her tightly.
"Brother, I’m fine!"
Vesey patted Harry on the shoulder, then straightened up and said loudly:
"I’m just a little afraid of heights, and I was exhausted after saving my brother and Malfoy. I wanted to lie down and rest for a while, but Professor Snape took me away immediately."
She explained it loudly, deliberately making sure everyone could hear.
She was afraid that if she spoke too softly, the rumor that Vesey Potter had fainted from fright would spread throughout Hogwarts.
